Some absolute edjit attempting to overtaking me about 40 m before a set of lights we're approaching at about 20mph only to simultaneously pull left and hit on the brakes before they hit the traffic in front of them, forgetting they'd not even got close to overtaking me - I was in line at their passenger side door as they started to pull left.

Cue a little scream from me as they did so :(

And not on camera either, as I'd forgotten to empty the memory card overnight.

came to a rolling stop at the bottom of our road only to see traffic turn left, allowing me to continue after I unclipped, fluffed the start and when I did catch up with the pedal, applied power only for the chain to skip and somehow bend the rear mech.

Couldn't straighten it enough to continue, so gave up and returned home to pick up the spare bike bah Monday's.

Cycle to station. Find that I've left my train pass at home. Cycle home.

It's now too late to cycle back and still get a bike on the train.

No cycling (apart from the home to station and back again)

i cant remember the last time i had an actual rant but this is rant worthy

I bought a plasma TV 15 years ago so early pre HDTV days, anyway i used to have it connected with composite and or component cabling until we replaced it a few years ago with a fancy smart tv, its now in the spare room connected to an Xbox.

Well long story short today I connected the Xbox using a HDMI to VGA converter and the bloody thing is razor sharp 1080p FFS I had that thing in low res or 720 at best for over 10 years grrrrrr and I spent a fortune on high quality cables and converters grrrrrrrrr

The converter i'm using now cost £8 GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

    This made me LOL.

I've not the faintest idea what it means. Something about TVs and cables.

I've been trying to replace the freehub on my M785 rear wheel and to do so you need a 14mm allen key or hex bit. Had a look round and bought a 14mm hex bit 1/2" drive from Amazon, wasn't on Prime delivery but came Saturday so no panic. Opened the package and they sent me a 13mm socket so went through the returns procedure and had a replacement sent out which came today. Before I opened the package I felt for a hex bit inside which there was so opened it and tried it for size on the new freehub bolt and it slid straight in, checked the size and I've been sent a 9mm hex bit :x On the third attempt now and will send the other two wrong items back tomorrow, luckily it isn't costing me anything. Was sorely tempted to find a overly large box to send one of the items back in.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

My number plate memory apparently sucks :-/

Got an incident going to work today, with an idiot on a grey Q7. He first close passed me instead of taking the rightmost lane (which he did 10m later). I informed him of the unnecessary risk he took. Anyway, all of this he did this to jump ahead of the cars in my lane so, unavoidably, I ended up ahead of him. Given his close pass, I was not going to give him a farking inch in the Meadows, so I took primary and rode slightly above the 20 mph limit. But this man honked and complained, got level with me (while driving on the other lane), lowered the window, used all the wrong arguments (bike lane, tax, get out of my way) and then he drove towards me, until he almost touched my handlebars. At this point, he even complained I was breaking the speed limit.

But the worst thing is I can't remember the last two letters of his plate, so I can't even report him to the police.

They could probably track a car from the last two letters, make, model and colour, but whether they would or not is another matter.

So, complained you were speeding whilst he overtook you? Fecking fudgeknuckle.

Anyway. Was feeling really exhausted yesterday afternoon and couldn't face the cycle home (breaking rule 5) and got PT home.

Woke up this morning with a throat feeling like it has been attacked by a rabid honeybadger who's had a particularly bad day, feeling even more exhausted and aching all over...which probably explains why i felt tired the day before. PT in again today so I can make everyone else ill. My colleague at the desk next to me is getting married in 9 days and probably wants me in an isolation ward.

Reported. Police Scotland is visiting me tomorrow. May be told of by them when I state (b/c don't want to hide facts) that I actually touched the passenger's door while being overtaken.

Leaving work on Tuesday and I'm feeling crap, in need of an energy boost so raid what I have in my locker and ride home. Would have used the vending machines in work but lack of change meant it wasn't possible. Luckily there's a petrol station 2 miles up the road so call in there and drip over the floor as it's raining and as I'm being served still wearing my helmet I'm asked what pump I'm on for the petrol.

WFH last wednesday, went for a pleasure ride at sunset once I'd finished all my tasks. Got a visit from the fairy 4 miles on. With the cold temperatures I first struggled massively to first remove the tyre and then put it back on. That coupled with some bad position means I now have what feels like tenosynovitis on my right thumb. Ironically, this means I can't now fix punctures without a great deal of pain. FFS.

I have many strange affections. Being cut open over the table after a family meal with perhaps slightly more than moderate use of alcohol and with said wine as the sole anaesthetic is not one of them. Besides, we all know the answer: "NSAIDs 3/day for 1 week, relax and MTFU".

    My local cycling lobbying group.

14 years ago I ran into them when giving my school’s take on a bridge where two students on bikes had died that year in road accidents. They resisted all segregation options (much to the delight of the counc since the bill for doing so was going to be high) and argued that cyclists must be treated exactly the same as motor vehicles.

Roll forward 14 years, I’m back in town and the bridge I live right by is going to be shut for some train works. The same lobby group now wants to use this as a trial to pedestrianise the main road in the area. Would be an absolute ball ache for all concerned. Some of the solutions they proposed for the obvious problems their plan posed would make a Brexiter blush.

    Absolute idiots.

We should all have the opportunity to all learn from our mistakes.. and having low goals is a failure, right?
I still can't believe that until 2000 the CTC were anti segregated lanes, but highlighted why I've resisted joining them for so long.
I guess the people in that group have changed. I've changed the approach in my group, for the better, I believe.

It probably needs a separate thread - but why do we need segregated lanes?
My use is mostly country roads - commuting is a country A road - but I do ride a lot of B roads and smaller. Very little is done in town - when it is, I tend to take primary because I'm riding at the speed of the traffic (what little there is). I must admit - I do not ride these roads with little Slowbike - at just over 3 - he's too young to be on those roads.

With the damp weather of the season my bike path to work becomes lethal. It's the pedestrian access points that cause the problems. It's a shared path and the pedestrian side has kind of a concrete cattle grid pattern series of paving stones.
The bike side is similar but rotated 90 degrees to make a series of tram lines.
So if your front wheel goes in one line and the rear in another it makes for some sketchy riding in the wet.

It seems to be the standard road furniture though. Who approved this ?

Nah it’s a tiring argument that goes around in circles. Have done it to death.

Short of it depends on what kind of cycling you want and your tolerance of vehicle on bike accidents.

yes, the evidence suggests you get more KSIs per distance cycled in non-cycle-lane infrastructures than you do with cycle-lane infrastructures ... that conclusion has been reached in paper after paper comparing locales across Europe.

Rant at me, for not paying attention at all while approaching the intersection to my workplace. Nothing really happened, but had me doing my best to brake in the middle of a turn to avoid the cyclist ahead and the car coming the other way.

Again, nothing happened, but on the 10s before the intersection i was a farking idiot that shold have known better.
