  • Managed to rip a giant hole through my "ripstop" baggy MTB overshorts that were beginning to wear, so I'd ordered a pair of replacements from decathlon on what I thought was a like for like replacement.

New ones are significantly thicker, meaning that I'm now way overdressed for the weather with them on, and can't find anything like the originals anywhere.

When you find yourself driving on the same road through a pinchpoint you got close passed cycling on last week and realise just how close you were to being another ksi statistic

Had a ridiculous close pass on Camden High Street today, a 20 MPH zone, when I'm doing 20mph. First he's impatient behind at a red light, creeping forward and edging closer to am stationary, me. Sometime after the lights go green, he changes lanes and overtakes with an inch or two to spare. I gave him a stare at the next set of lights and he gives me some verbals at the next couple whilst crawling along next to me.

Got the whole thing on camera (front and back) though. Haven't looked at it yet, but thinking about doing something with it.

I've taken to using the stare recently. There's a fine line with how long to hold it for though, I like just long enough that they don't doubt you're staring but short enough to then carry on with your ride before anything kicks off. That way you can leave them to think about what they've done and be smile with the assumption that they'll probably be crying themselves to sleep that night (maybe not but at least thinking about it for the next few minutes)

+1 with doing something with the footage. Get the scum!

Morning rides starting to get a bit cooler; bracing myself for the deluge of rants from people complaining that riding to and from work in precisely the same layers makes them either too cold in the morning or too hot in the evening...

I used to be like that. Tired of ranting, I got some arm warmers and, man, how did I survive without them for so long? Toasty in the mornings, yet fresh in the evenings! May end up getting a pair of knee warmers too...

I was thinking exactly that today, and rather than rant about it, decided to go knee warmer shopping...

I just wear a pair of 3/4s in the morning - over normal shorts - don't wear them on the way home ... although today I've worn a new pair of padded 3/4s - no shorts - so no choice for the return home .... it'll be fine.

Well, I did the 3/4"'s this morning, so will be warm on the way home, but rather that the other way around with my overly sensitive knees..

Summer setting on my 7 mile commute:

10-12mph, top two buttons undone, freewheel down every hill

    Autumn setting:

    12-14mph, top button undone

I was pleased to even wear a jacket (as in suit jacket) last thursday and not boil.

  • Today was my first day back on the bike in a month and was quite excited to ride to work again.

As I was leaving home I noticed that a strange clank was coming from my left cleat (Speedplay). I lift my leg only to see that I have lost a pair of the bolts that hold the actual cleat

Rush home to put on the new pair of cleats I had stashed away when the (now) old ones wear out as I couldn't even use the bolts from the new pair as they are slightly different.

Not what I needed at the start of the week...

Big sheet of bubblewrap blew under my wheel today. I was in traffic and too cautious about trying to get around it. The fecking thing wound itself around my cassette, tore the jockey wheel out of the rear mech, bent the derailleur hanger and bent the chain. also scraped the paintwork on the seatstay around the dropout. I only fitted the groupset about three months ago.

Just got a truly generous 0% pay award from work on top of 10 years of 0% or below inflation pay rises. Really broke lately in fact, so I could just do without replacing a load of basically new parts on my bike. f|_|ck F|_|CK ERSE B@LLS SH|TE!

Other than wind direction, no, none at all.

Except maybe too much booze, or too little food, or the wrong food.

Or even too much cycling, or not enough recovery, or not enough sleep.....

I haven't ridden a bike since last Tuesday due to various events, this isn't going to improve any time soon. I'm tired and grumpy, even more so than usual. Apparently taking it out on others is the wrong thing to do, even if they ask for it.

Eleven days since I last worked/rode my bike. Could have tried for overtime on Monday & Tuesday but CBA'd. Got to do it Wednesday, no escaping it any longer. Think it'll hurt.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I always get super irritable/lethargic after about day 3 off the bike. On the plus side, that first massive hit of dopamine when you get back on is amazing.
  • 2nd day of riding my new Pinnacle to work, after picking up Sunday and it's now in for a warranty repair , due to pedal crank failure on route this morning.

    On the bus !!!

Snapped crank? Takes a lot of power to snap a crank (assuming not a manufacturing fault).

    Bask in your awesome power.

Haha not quite - pedal has come loose taking out the crank threads on its way.

Glad you posted this. Has been about 3 weeks since I last popped out. Did a nice 60K after work and suitably knackered and hungry but bloody nice to get out again.

on a similar note, is the date on Gels, a production date or best before? if the latter....... how far past it, is too long?

Been a while since I used gels, but I erred on the side of caution and chucked some I had which were 12 months beyond the date.
