DrHaggis wrote:I don't do autocad, so I'll change the topic to anti-cyclist clicbait. Good. "Let's picture how cyclists do in a road where ongoing roadworks (> 6 months) have cut 2 out of three lanes, where the remaining lane is full of potholes so big you can see Auckland, and where heavy traffic behaves abusively even if it means pushing cyclists into the tram lines at narrow angles". My blood boils. Are we going to say anything about the lovely chaps that stop without using his indicators, on the bike lane, with double yellows on the edge? The ******* cars that do close passes way above the speed limit only to be stopped at traffic lights 20 meters ahead? Roads so atrocious I fear for snakebites even on 7 psi tires?
I'll also rant about my idiocy. Why the heck did I start reading the comments?
Fark. That's an appalling hit piece. Never got BTL.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

Just been in touch with cyclescheme, trying to hurry my certificate along.
Sorry sir, it usually takes 3 working days to process payment so there's nothing we can do to speed it up. But if you don't hear anything by 3pm tomorrow, give us a call and we'll chase finance to speed it up.
What?! You can't or you can, make your mind up.0 -
Not really a rant more a WTF? Yesterday found a few cars thought they where bikes and where attempting to drive down the bike lane on the A315, while it’s a wide bike lane it’s clearly not wide enough for cars, so they remained stuck until I appeared which motivated them to move some calmly some more panicky! First time I’ve seen folks do that, people are lemmings so I guess only needs one for them all to try!0

Yo, regional people.
The whole "giving up a seat when you see a pregnant woman" thing.
Londoners manage to do it most of the time on the tube.
Why can't you do it on a normal train?
I've literally had 5 people say plainly to my face they won't give up their seat for my pregnant wife.
Shameful sh!t.0 -

Thanks.
The problem is, is that type of behaviour inhibits pregnant women asking the question when they're on their own, and it creates extra anxiety around travelling that, bluntly, isn't needed when you're pregnant. Are enough things to worry about.
Took a lot of effort not to unleash on the f*ckers to be honest.
All I offered in the end was that it was shameful.0 -
Congrats
but yup - that's crap - don't often use PT - but when Mrs SB was pregnant we did mostly fine that people were helpful. Mind u - she did cycle to her last midwife appointment0 -
Congrats!
The missus was lucky in the sense she used the car to work, up until the last few weeks before maternity leave. She said it was a nightmare getting a bus as often no f*cker would give up a seat and those who did were often frail old folk - despite it being obvious she was massively pregnant.

congratulations, sadly people are fundamentally selfish, I’ve had folks ask me to move my charge who is clearly very disabled with cables and what not, since they wanted to stand in the disabled space in the bus....0 -

Set the alarm to wake me up an hour earlier than normal so I could take the long way into work. A bit chilly out, but not a cloud in the sky - beautiful morning.
About 10 mins in, approaching a traffic island some absolute c*nt of a coach driver decides to overtake. The road at this point is so tight, that there isn't enough room for a normal car to overtake at this point.
Anyway, he pulls in to avoid the island and only half of his coach has passed me, his front wheel is basically in the gutter. I had to bunny hop onto the path to avoid being squished.
That's as close a near miss I've had. Worse still, it was an unbranded bus and didn't catch the reg number.
Spent then next 10 mins thinking why I bother. Have an amazing 6 month old son and wife at home and it's not f*cking worth it.0 -
It's a shared use path - so we expect dog walkers, walkers, cyclists, runners - all sorts ...
Not a problem - if you look where you're going and look what's coming towards you ...
So if you're cycling 2 abreast - no issue with that - and there's a cyclist coming towards you - make a bit of room for them - don't just sit there oblivious ...
Yes - I'm in a hurry - I'm commuting - I've got to drop these bikes (yes plural) back home before getting in the car and getting to work asap ... I don't mind exchanging pleasantries, but please move over when you're taking up the whole path.0 -
Apparantely, I picked up an HG-X (XT) 10 spd chain in a rush through Halfords last time I grabbed chains, rather than a road one, and they aren't interchangeable.
I'd gone from just under 0.75% worn to >1% worn in a month /400 miles, cos I hadn't found the time to clean chain more than once, and by heck was it a state...
Which explains the complete shower of **** that riding was this morning, as shifting was out, front chainring kept picking up and dropping the chain of the pickup every single crank turn.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

First I've ever heard of 10 speed chain not being compatible - do you have another source for that?
Are you sure you haven't put it on the wrong way round? Shimano 10 speed chains are directional.0 -

Cheap camera - I've got the Aldi one - report the sh!t driving to the police - it's the only way.
Why do you bother? Because you want to be fit and healthy for your son - he's going to want to ride just like you.
Pointless reporting it. Couldn't identify the company as it was an un-branded coach, didn't even get a letter of the number plate as I was too busy taking avoiding action.
And the last time I reported a coach to the company I think this could also be, I heard f*ck all back.
Really, really don't want to, but thinking a camera is the only way. That's 2 run in's now with a coach/lorry that have scared the sh*t out of me - both times the police would have taken action I'm sure.0 -

Took me 2 attempts to get it the right way around ( late, tired, dark) , but it's definitely the right way around. The cassette shifting is "tolerable ", but it's the front chainring that's really screwing everything up.
I believe the 10s MTB chain is ever so slightly wider than the road version.

It is worth it; you'll be fitter & healthier and be around with your son & wife further into old age. Hard to imagine/correlate sometimes, but that's what the evidence suggests.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

I hate running with a camera, but I've found that many drivers "spot" it, and adjust their driving a little.
Get a box go-pro sized, paint it yellow/black chevron & a little black circle, add a flashing LED, stick it to the back of your helmet, and many will adjust a little.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

I've reported 2 snips to Operation Crackdown - Sussex Police's online reporting tool - and had 2 letters sent out to the registered drivers - both passes were just too close - neither were aggressive... thankfully.
Been thinking about getting a forward facing one to capture the otherside - but wouldn't want to spend a lot on it.0 -

Have you done the SW upgrade yet? The Turning off mid ride was, in my experience, due to it being "too dark" and thinking it there was no movement, so triggering the 5 min auto-cutoff thing.
And the aldi camera really is very simple, great battery life, and a 64gb card to stores a weeks worth of commuting for me, so it's a battery charge and camera charge every Friday night.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.
