  • You would have no evidence of him speeding, you could only end up incriminating yourself. I'm thinking about getting a camera for situations like this even though after so many years I've never experienced it, it's only a matter of time.

Blue Citroen C1, SL10 XPE. Remember this.

On the way to work, the car above did a punishment pass, right at the place where a road was narrowing due to an island in the middle (see here for the exact location). He was almost certainly breaking the 20mph speed limit and the traffic light ahead was red, where he had to wait. I gestured and complained.

The lights went green before I made it there, but the driver waited for me. I overtook the car, and then the car honked uninterruptedly for the next 20s or so, and following me less than 2m behind. The driver finally overtook me, breaking the speed limit in the process (this time for sure, because I did an average 37 kph for the next km, and he was faster). I obviously overtook him at the next light, but didn't see him any further.

Shall I report this to the police? I have the location and time, as well as GPS evidence of my speed. However, I have no camera. Would this backfire and have the police fine me for furious cycling above the speed limit?

I wouldn't waste your time reporting it. From experience, the Edinburgh Police aren't great with stuff like this and that's even if you have video evidence!

Unless this happened in one of two Royal Parks the speed limit doesn't apply to bikes. So feel free to send in a gpx track that shows you going over 20mph.

I would report it. While it's unlikely to result in any action, the police do keep notes and use it to establish a pattern. That way when the inevitable video is submitted it'll be more likely to be followed up rather than hand-waved away as a "one-off" moment of inattention.

The state of a lot the roads in this country, I ride on, is really getting irritating. Yet another tyre destroyed on a ride yesterday, and this one was a particularly resilient tyre as well. I’ve ridden across broken glass, and sharp pointy stuff a plenty, with nothing to report, but a sharp edged hole, disguised by a puddle, sliced the side wall clean open yesterday. I got home by patching the hole with an empty gel wrapper, but it’s ( yet another ) dead tyre. It boils my urine that the roads are allowed to get into this state.

First set of lights I encounter when leaving home is straight on only for the direction I leave so I pull up behind the first car at the lights and as soon as the lights change I roll forward beside the moving car which then indicates left leaving me to slap the car and shout about the no left turn then when I get level with the passenger window I tell the driver again and she gets the message and at the roundabout goes in a totally different direction to where the left turn would have taken her.
When I do get into work which was to be a bonus as it was a full days overtime I empty my pannier bag and find I haven't got my medication with me so lose the extra money I would have earned today on top of my normal wages, I drop the boss an email as I eat my lunch then get changed back into my cycling gear and ride home an hour after arriving.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Kingston council's parking 'services'.
They changed the system last year to virtual permits rather than paper ones you can see. When we changed our car we had all sorts of trouble transferring the permit as the system couldn't cope with it, this in spite of applying for the change two weeks before the system changed. I eventually got it done by talking to a person on the phone.
Got home last night to find a parking ticket on the car. A bit of investigation and I discover the permit has expired, although as I don't have a printed permit I don't know it has expired. I can't look at the virtual permit on line as it was done on the phone. I ask them why they didn't warn me my permit was due to expire and was told it was only a courtesy and they are not required to do so.
The system to apply for a permit is so complicated there is now a 14 page document on the council website to guide you through it, that is backed up by an 8 minute video.
I believe this is known as progress. What a complete and total shitshow.

    Farking B&Q

Ordered a couple of radiators, click and collect. Collected said radiators following day and as loading the car notice one of the boxes has a massive hole in it.

Plumber opens them up, damaged box is missing 1 fitting and the radiator has a chip out of the paint smack bang front centre. Need a radiator so the plumber can come again the next day, so click and collect another radiator but only store it's available in is 90min round trip.

Collect new radiator, where the girl completes the most thorough check of the box to make sure it's not damaged - it even had a sticker on the box to say it had been opened and inspected - this is despite me not mentioning anything about the previous damaged radiator.

Return the original a couple of days later, where I can't be ar$ed to argue the toss for petrol/time/plumber mess about and return home to find out via email they've refunded me for the wrong (cheaper) radiator.

    Bunch of incompetent f*ckers.
  • I'm going up a small bridge for 3t max vehicles, the bridge so narrow that I'm forced into primary position, only to find some impatient dimwit tried to overtake on my right as I'm about to turn right at the mini roundabout at the bottom of the bridge. He was trying to overtake me so he could go on the left side of the road... Genious. Black Audi.

Then, much much later, I'm going straight in a bus lane to be cut up by another driver turning left. Again, black Audi...

All theses drivers trying to shave mere seconds off a journey at the expense of anothers safety. Why not wait 1 second rather than antagonise?

Screw getting a road bike for myself, I want a frigging front and rear camera setup instead.

In the past I’ve pulled in to let a ambulance with blues and twos, at which point someone has attempted to overtake head on into the ambulances path.

My own rant bought some x-one bite tyres, lovely tyres but they do squirm which I had noted in reviews but though it would be minor, I’m probably a good 30kg heavier than reviewers so it’s quite noticeable! So they are off the bike! In fairness in mud they are great which most CX/gravel tyres tend not to be. But I ride mixed ie mud/tracks/woods/roads in one ride so something so focused was unwise choice on my part.

Been off work (and the bike) for the last week with a chest infection. On antibiotics now.

I've had pneumonia the last 2 years running (both in the same time of year) and now this. I think i may be susceptible to it now.

Worst thing is, I had a long-planned ride in the Chilterns this Saturday with a a group of mates that i have had to pull out of.
Still have pneumonia, been in and out of work and haven't been able to ride for 4 weeks now. Been to the doctors 3 times in that period and all they can do is give me anti-biotics.

  • Suddenly came down with man-flu during last Weds, cycled home at the pace of a weak kitten, straight to bed for ~14 hours. Woke up next day, felt much better, but didn't cycle until Fri and even then took it steady.

Did a 2-hour ride after work on Saturday, giving it some beans on the hills, felt good. Woke up Sun morning, groggy and achy as hell, just getting to the bathroom felt like a mission! Then came the vomiting, then the runs, Aussie Flu?

Still like death warmed up today, had to call in sick, but more fed up because once again my cycle training is being compromised by ill health this year... It's a miracle that my random target of 400k feet of climbing for 2018 is still on track, even if my fitness isn't and I'm heading towards 80Kg when I was ~75Kg before Xmas.

Messing around with the bike over the weekend and I dislodged a rear light and only noticed it when I left work and it wasn't there to turn on so assumed it had been 'borrowed' by a work colleague but when I checked the rear cam it can be seen committing hari kiri shortly after leaving home :(

Slow Visitation from she who must not be named overnight, didn't notice until a few meters down the road. Spare road wheelset was mid service, so jumped to mtb.

Which still had studded tyres on.

As many beasts from the easts that there are, there really is no excuse other than laziness for still having snow tyres fitted to a bike on the south coast in April...

    The commonwealth games.

What a crock of sh*te. Some of the athletes for smaller nations have competed in one sport in previous games and another sport at these games. Un-competitively.

In most events there are one or 2 people completely on another level to the "competition" - like shooting fish in a barrel.

Most of the time it's like showing sunday league football on the TV.

Wouldn't open my curtains if it was being held in the back garden.

Colds &coughs. Currently day 3 into one.

I thought cycling daily was meant to boost your immune system so you had less time off work? I've had more in the last year than I ever have before, mostly colds /coughs...

(Not being able to breathe while cycling to work has been taken into account in that decision, and I've got no viable PT option, and no car)

*touches wood* I found not touching my eyes and washing my hands when I got into work noticeably reduced how often I get a cold.

I can empathasize, felt rough as a dog last Weds, straight home to bed after a slow cycle home from work with a fever. Felt fine the next day, felt fine on my first early evening jaunt this year on Saturday, to then be like death warmed up until Thursday. Then went for a short, moderate fitness evaluation on Witts Hill and without trying hard, somehow beat my Woodmil Lane and "Bitterne 13.5%" segment PBs from last yer!

Moderate to hard cycling relative to your standards on a regular will lower your immune system, which I suspect is why I came down so hard this last few days, I'm back up to CSS 2707 and XSS 3031 for the last 6 weeks according to https://cricklesorg.wordpress.com/ ... Something I've not been doing to that intensity since before Xmas.

My self I’ve not been out on the MTB for ages, the bottom bracket had felt a bit stiff last time, was going to take it down this weekend but I forgot about it, so had to take the gravel bike, which is a fun bike but really soggy Breacon Beacons need more bike really!

Migraine struck hard once again. As it always does whenever there is a sudden change of weather for the better. "Oh, you thought you'd enjoy mid teens in Edinburgh? You thought about doing some miles on mild weather?" Think again, you fool, and SUFFER!!!
  • Parked my wife's car nearby and forgot about it for 2 weeks as I gave up driving completely so I could travel 100% by bike. I come back to find the wing mirror smacked downwards (possibly by the homeowners that I had parked in front of). Where I live, too many cars and too few brains. Why do I make these stupid mistakes???

Gonna cost £200 for me to fix it, right out of my new bike budget. What happened to a kindly written letter

I've broke my London Road frame :( This explains the noises I couldn't cure recently. I did notice the crack last week and it appeared to clean up but I can now make the gap wider plus I have a similar crack on the otherside of the frame.
