I say a bulk kudos session, give us a link to an activity and we can all kudos it.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

  • Decided to fit the 28mm Grand Sport Race to the rear of the Cube earlier, to replace the 25mm that came with the bike, after using my backup 28mm tube to fix a fairy visit while out the other day...

Got to the final ~12" of bead to get back on the rim and just like the other day, I had a mare trying to get sort it just by hand. Grabbed the tyre lever, seconds later, another self-inflicted fairy visit on a tube that did ~10 miles.

So annoyed, I've now "killed" ~10 tubes over the last two years while swapping tyres on both bikes, while I've only had another three visits while riding bikes!

Thankfully found two fresh tubes I didn't realise I had, one to get bike ready to go out pronto and another to take as the emergency backup...

No mention in this Jamie Carragher coverage of what action is being taken against the driver, merrily filming with his phone and taunting a celeb when he ought be concentrating on the road.

Carragher looks likely to lose his job over it, I think this chap should be losing his license.

Couldn't give a shit about football, incidentally. Just wonder how many other drivers will be inspired to make hilarious videos.

Yeah, and having a conversation while distracted driving next to another car. Shocking that's all normalised.

used a leaking Hy-Rd caliper as an excuse to ditch the Hy-Rd cable actuated hydraulics and upgrade to full105 hydraulics and the rest of the 105 groupset. I figured the savings chucking out half worn brake pads and general stress relief from losing the Hy-Rds would make it worth it (I am really heartily sick of those brakes).

The fit out went smoothly enough and the brakes seemed to be working fine except... when they didn't. The front lever goes from feeling perfect - firm, grippy, no sponginess- to suddenly touching the bars and having no effect whatsoever. After pumping the brake a few times normal service is resumed. This only happens intermittently during a ride (mostly early on) and so far never on the workstand. I assumed I didn't have the system bled correctly so have re-bled twice very slowly and carefully. Hoses are tightened ok and not leaking. Now it looks as though I'm going to have to send it back*, with all the work and hassle and no bike and buggering about trying to prove there is something wrong with it... feck feck feck!

*unless anyone here can think of something else I can try to fix it?

Got some sort of lurgy, spent most of the weekend just feeling exhausted. I NEVER sleep during the day, but on Sunday was sparko on the sofa by 17.00. Today feeling similar, sore throat and a bit snotty. So no commute.

Supposed to be playing 6-a-side later, but might have to knock that on the head too.

its a rant that I no longer feel able to commute by bike without a video camera, because of stuff like this, 3 close pass must get in fronts today, at least when I went full wavey arms at the 3rd one (I was getting fed up by then) the next guy who overtook me gave me so much room he was near enough driving wholly on the other side of the road. plus a head on as some tit in an Audi couldnt wait to overtake a cyclist coming the other way whilst I was in the middle of the road turning right.

and that was just the morning, the return trip I had a full on lean on the horn punishment pass completely out of nowhere have no idea what his problem was, plus another couple of mgifs and a nodder who just hopped their bike off the pavement into the cycle lane in front of me without looking, who was only on the pavement to beat a red light and had passed me not more than 10secs earlier so knew I was going to be there or there abouts.

all to find when I managed to arrive home still intact, the battery on the video camera had run out :x

so looking forward to getting to do it all again tomorrow

Slowly going along the outside of a line of slow moving traffic towards a red light.

Big white van slowly creeping in to the middle of the road, then pulls sharply back into the lane, as I go past, both hands off the wheel, texting or something on his phone, so I rolled along at his speed just looking at him until he noticed me, took about 10 seconds, only for him to see me, drop his phone, wave his hands in the air and shout 'oh f*ck off will ya'.
Sorry I didn't realise I were in the wrong, so I continued just to watch him as it was obviously making him feel uncomfortable, until the line of traffic stopped and I rolled all the way up to the traffic lights.

Why is it when people have done something wrong their first defence is just to shout and swear as if the other person is in the wrong. facepalm.

Don't worry, it's not in the public interest to do anything about it apparently.

Stupid Mercedes drivers not stopping at the stop lines on pedestrian crossings but coming perilously close to the crossing itself. A hard Paddington Bear stare there this morning.

Runners yes, and dogs its handy since both are moving often at speed, but walkers are not we're the ones moving at speed. which is why you and I need lights to see by but walkers often don't. it's fairly easy to walk in pitch dark with out a problem since objects arrive quite slowly.

Runners kit has reflective bits on normally. Certainly their shoes do. It's a pity more general kit doesnt have a reflective on though. Black on a dark night is hard to see.

Why does the bad weather bring the c*nts out.

Had 2 near misses last night in the pi$$ing rain, 1 defying all known logic.
  • Getting really annoyed with my annual SAD-induced spring hypomania, wanting to do more, including more outdoor cycling back in the South Downs again. However, waking up way before the alarm most nights, is leaving me completely zombified and incapable of much at all.

The weather forecast today around the Warnford cat4 hills isn't helping, rain is in the air (on/off showers) and the Cube still hasn't got mudguards, so probably not a good idea. But even if it was dry, deciding on a route feels like a life changing decision, my heart says do a different hill sequence while my head says stick to a sequence I've done before! :?

I'm sure a couple of decades ago more coats and shoes had reflective bits on. Could of course be imagining it.
Problem is in dark areas such as I cycle of I want plenty of warning I need to put lights on full beam which can be unpleasant for others. Just the smallest but of high viz can make a difference.

My commute is and always has been shared paths, one of the best things I did was to buy one of the Exposure Stradas which has a remote, so I can toggle between modes at wim, on low and medium it’s bright but not blinding, and full gives enough poke for full dark sections.

It’s not just walkers etc, but occasionally objects/potholes etc fundamentally if someone is surprising you, by there presence then you need to slow down or a better light?

could have just left it at runners full stop, its when they run in pairs on shared paths that arent really that wide so end up blocking a way past and they are so focussed on chatting to one another they completely miss you are even there,

Met this chap today, while commuting back home, that jumped me at a red light. Nevermind, I overtook him again easily and without dramas. He did the same again at the very next light, but now he positioned himself at the middle of the lane. OK, several lanes ahead, so surely he'll turn right or go straight on the right lane.

To my surprise, and not having said anything at all while waiting for the green light, he then mounted his bike, crossed the lane, and slowly started pedalling while turning *left* while blocking me. Really? You can't say anything? Or indicate? And you must jump me for that? Come on, mate. It's not the 5 seconds lost that annoy me, mind you, but the lack of consideration.

The light is fine, I just generally avoid running it at higher powers as I'm very wary of it being bright for other people coming the other way.
Also the pedestrians aren't surprising me, just if they had the smallest but of reflective material I'd notice them 100m off rather than the tens of metres.
