Worn cleats suck. SPD's are famously indestructable, but I still only seem to get about 6 months out of them, before the left hand one (as that's the one I always clip out of at lights) starts popping out when I'm putting down the power or hill climbing.

Telltale grooves now worn into my current ones. Time for the bin. Is there anywhere you can buy them cheaply in bulk?

  • Worst left hook so far this morning

The driver overtook approaching a mini roundabout and immediately turned in left towards the kerb with me alongside; I had two choices – hit the kerb and fall off awkwardly onto a nice hard pavement or hand and shoulder thump the car! (which made her stop!)

I shouted at her ‘you can’t bloody do that it’s dangerous driving’ then as I cycled away she opened the window and shouted ‘are you going to pay for damaging my car?’

    My reply was most un-gentlemanly…

    FCA ?
Financial Conduct Authority. They're in Canary Wharf

And a little rant. Passing a bus that was indicating left. Bus decides it wasn't stopping after all and starts to pull out to go around another bus. I give it a bit of space. It keeps on coming out, ends up taking up both lanes so I have to slow to let it finish its move.
Catch up and pass 10 seconds later, then have a word at the next set of lights, saying while it was nice of him to indicate, it would have been nicer if he'd checked his mirrors too.
He says I was going too fast, didn't expect me there. I say I'm allowed to go fast. And it's only a 20mph limit, it's not that fast. That quiets him. He wishes me a good day.

Soon to be shifted to Stratford, any consolation he might be stabbed and get his bike knicked.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Just to be sure - you do know you can adjust the tension on the pedals which allows for a fair bit of wear?

Indeed. The trouble with that though is that it doesn't last long, as the higher the tension, the greater the wear. My experience is that once decent sized grooves have been worn into the rear of the cleat, and the sharp lower edge has gone, there's nothing really that can be done. New cleat time.

Well, halfords online have wellgo 98a cleats for £6 + 2.99 delivery. If you are okay with wellgos that seems like a bargain. 4 pairs delivered for £27.

Dentists. I went for a check up about a month ago believing all was well with my teeth, it transpired I was wrong and an Xray showed I needed a filling. Went back for the filling a couple of weeks later and after he'd done it he said that because it was so close to the nerve if that didn't work it would have to have a root canal filling. A couple of days later and I'm in a lot of pain, but of course it's the weekend. Phone the dentist on Monday morning and arrange an appointment to go back on Tuesday. Go back in to be told they can't do the root canal as it's too complicated and I would have to be referred to the hospital to get it done, but it might not work and it would take a while. Alternatively, pull the tooth and sort something out after everything settles down. Quick chat and decide to pull the tooth. I've suspected something wasn't right for a while and confirmed it last night. The hole goes right through to my nasal cavity, I can suck air through it and blow drinks the other way. Back to the dentist for me.
I wouldn't mind but I didn't have a bloody toothache before this saga started and now it hurts enough that I couldn't ride my bike today. Seriously pissed off.

The one thing you can console yourself with is that doing nothing with ropey teeth is never a long term solution. All you've done is brought forward an unpleasant experienced that you could have quite easily put off for a while at least!

Everything that ever goes wrong with my teeth is always complicated and awkward (and bicycle costing expensive)

Whilst this may be true, the ranting thread is not the place to be reasonable. :P

Thanks. I've currently got 98A's, and I can't really tell the difference between them and genuine SH51 Shimano ones.

Does anyone use the 'lifeline' ones that wiggle do for £4? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-mtb-pe ... ompatible/

They appear to be rebranded Exustar ones. Multi release though - which is a pain in the neck when you want to be clipped in securely.

***** that spread mud on the road just as they pass you by running into the verge on a single track road.
Cue wipeout at 20mph and a lot of gravelly, muddy road rash.
Bike thankfully went cheap side down, on the other hand, I now need a new helmet. Hmm

Finally got rid of the last plaster from this today. Lovely set of scars left over now.
Also re-synced the Garmin, to find that i was going at 26 mph just before the crash, but the previous garmin segment finished ~ 10 meters before hand - and i'm second = on it.

    Stupid, stupid dérailleur hangers.
Luckily I was on a smaller rear cog as I changed to the large on the front, and the seat stay prevented wheel damage

I mean, what is the point of over-taking me then slam on her brakes so woman driver can turn left whilst I'm along-side? What is the point? Why not just wait until I've gone past the junction?
Don't worry dear, I'll slam my brakes on so you don't damage your car and not be delayed by calling for an ambulance for me.

  • Bristol, the Centre about 8.15am today, on my bike and another cyclicst 'underttook' me on the inside as I was about to turn left. I let the word 'tw@t' slip out . Lo and behold we find ourselves reunited 200 yards later at some lights and he's getting very abusive towards me.

So in the off chance you are reading this, the reason I called you that was because you cut me up on the inside and could have caused an accident. Ignorance really is bliss.

Kids don't undertake on the inside of other bikes !

    Thanks and safe riding.

  • It seems there are more and more issues being created by fellow cyclists at the moment.
Not sure whether it is because I read about it more on here, or whether the volume of cyclist is increasing, or a combination of both.
  • Unfortunately, there are some cyclists - in my experience about one in every ten - who behave like overly entitled, spoilt children. They're the ones who come zooming out from under canal bridges with no line of sight and earbuds in, or the ones who undertake you with no warning, or who cut across your line when you're taking off from lights.

I'd actually say that percentage goes up to about 50% of all cyclists who have a helmet cam (the others tend to have been knocked over by cars before and are taking precautions), and at least 75% of all cyclists who wear full lycra and who have helmet cams.

  • When you get asked to prepare a few slides of the work you have been undertaking, for a team review.

Then, having your manager talk over all the slides, not just mine, but everybody's which means that the first of two sections I was doing finished into lunch.
Being lunchtime I suggested we leave it, but no, it was apparently my fault for having too many slides and talking too much.

"It wasn't me doing all the talking" was perhaps not the right thing to say, but it felt good.

Thing is, everybody says they like my presentations the best as I try to put in a little bit of background and make it interesting.

    Fuming.
