Mother finds my measurements of my current bike. She asks if I'm getting a new one to which I reply "I'm thinking about it", her reply "what do you need another bike for". I then get the tone of disapproval asking me where I'm going to keep it and complaining that there isn't room for the two I already have etc. etc.

I did 15 days overtime last month that will, like my normal monthly wage get put in the bank and spent only on dig money and income tax. Why shouldn't I buy a new bike. I would even buy a shed to keep them in but you'll only moan that we've already got 3 and there isn't room for any more.

3 sheds? Sounds like a bit of culling and shed consolidation is needed. I'm sure N+1 can't apply to sheds...

I'm more thinking of a change of her forum name to "Suzy 3 sheds".

When my parents moved house, the new abode had 3 sheds in the garden.

My mum insisted on calling herself Mrs 3 Sheds Chasey.

(well, not Chasey obviously, that's a made up name, but we'll use that instead of her actual surname..:))

Except all I have in them is a bike. So it should really be "Daughter of 3 sheds"

I think Father was supposed to get rid of the small wooden shed when he got the 3rd one. But he never did. And now the 3 of them are full, the third one with wood that "might be needed sometime" and a garden table that is never used even when it is nice enough.

Fecking chain on the singlespeed is still slipping.

But of course it only started doing it 2/3rds of the way to work, and only when pushing hard to pull away from junctions or whatever.

To be fair I should probably get a proper sprocket for it instead of using one from a cast-off worn out cassette. Might also try doing away with the tensioner and just move the wheel in the dropouts to see if that helps.

    Tensioner. Worn out cassette sprocket.

This one is easy to solve. :)

    Hah! Yes.

I am a victim of my own procrastination in that regard. It was fine until I snapped the old chain (which was another cast off fitted because it was there and then never replaced), but the new chain and old sprocket is proving to be a poor combination.

I only drag it out when the weather's bad, and every time there's something that needs fixing, but I stick it away again when the rain goes away and forget about it.

just had a ctscan for a suspected torn rotator cuff.... probably explains why I've been in pain. Not sure if this means I'm off the bike either.

Coming out of the hospital, I'm waiting at a set of traffic lights, they turn green and I'm almost floored by a cyclist undertaking me. Caught up with him, asked him what the frak he was doing and he responded "I'm faster than you, so should be in front", well he was on a nice bike and I'm on the BSO today but red rag, bull.... 30s later, as I overtake and look behind he's struggling to get up the hill, 5 mins later and he's nowhere to be seen.

"WIN! A Pinarello FP Due" declare Cycling Plus this month...

"To celebrate Cycling Plus's 20th anniversary we've teamed up with Yellow Limited to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a Pinarello PF Due worth £2299.99."

Now, beyond the fact that Cycling Plus are suggesting only one lucky reader can enter the competition, such is their wording, read on and you soon discover that entering by text will cost you £1.00 plus your standard network rate. It's not much for us loyal readers to get excited about, is it? The chance to spend our money entering a competition. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and to celebrate I'm going to give my friends and family the chance to become rich beyond their wildest dreams. All they need do is go buy a Euromillions ticket. Aren't I generous?

    Rant over*

    Rant at myself:

In that London today as a pedestrian, I stepped out in front of a guy on a bike. I managed to stop myself about halfway into the cycle-lane, but he still had to get on the evasive. He was really friendly and polite, and we both cheerfully went on our respective ways.
If it was you, skid-lid plastic hat, only just West of Tower Hill, about 16h45, sorry.

Really sorry mate. In my (not very strong) defence, I *ahem* had my mind on other things.

My fault entirely. Must do better.

lbs actually made my gears worse- they were running spot on when i went in, so why did they fiddle with them. And i'm not convinced i actually needed a new bb.

I built the frame up myself and recently replaced levers, mechs and cables and indexed them in myself.

i should clarify that what's pi$$ed me off is that I went to the lbs to get a wheel trued (something i don't know how to do myself but would really like to learn), and they fiddled without invitation. And i reckon i could have ground the crap out of the BB for a few more months but it would've needed doing eventually.

Think i'll just take the wheel off next time. or buy a truing stand.

get the Roger Musson wheel building book off t'interweb. It has instructions on building a stand. Take a look in the commuting workshop section as there is a thread about the stand, somebody has made a really nice one.

My rant: after a week on a crappy bed in Germany my back is well and truly fooked. Lots of stretching and ibuprofen is helping a bit. I feel particularly old.

A stand would be a 'nice to have' but all the wheels I've built and trued I've just used the forks and the blocks.

Cats; woke up this morning to find the feline had brought a new friend home, which she was playfully terrifying to within an inch of it's life.

Removed the mouse and also the remaining inch.
