I don't think UK sport are expected to fund any of this - the idea as I understand it is to have a commercial sponsor providing the funds, not any UK goverment agency or quango. The original article in the Guardian clearly states this.

Yeah, this needs the Dave B & co getting the ear of someone high-up the hierarchy of the likes of BP - there's a bit of history there, the funding required would be a drop in the ocean of BP's promotion spend, good for their (alleged) environmental agenda etc. With last year's TdF and the track success, cycling's profile is (relatively) high in the UK. Dave B's right to strike while the iron's hot...

The reality is they're Italian now.

I know Timoid and LangerDan are massive fans of the Irish LPR Brakes squad.

I thought it was CSF that were Irish?

Both squads are Irish registered. Hell, Jack Charlton put together Irish soccer teams with even more tenuous connections than those two. They just have to sign Damian O'Cunego and we're "away for slates"

Who'd win a fight between a culchie and a skanger?

The culchie - we were learning bare-knuckle boxing from the tinkers while the skangers were standing whinging in the dole office. Plus we can use hurleys while Dublin hurling is like a form of compulsory tillage, to mis-quote Con Houlihan.

I've been trying to place you for a while. Hurling country. Limerick?
The skangers have been happy enough under the 'jack for generations. Seem to remember they were somewhat irate with the 1916 shenanigens (when they weren't too busy with the greasy tills).

Yep. Notice there's even a bit of green on both team's kit. Makes em more Irish than Cascarino. Can we have Paul O'Bettini while we're at it.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.
  • Swift has been on fire recently.

The guy will be a winner in the Protour, if relegated to a stage hunter. Might do well in the classics.
  • I still don't see what the problem is thinking it's a good idea worth a go - in whatever format/configuration/funding guise it turns out in.

As long as it doesn't end up all ANC/Halfords or Linda McCartney/Jaguar/Jacobs Creek I will be happy!!

Speaking of which I am desperate to track down that phantom team Linda Mc jersey... i know Prendas sold them out... does anyone still have one they might want to trade with something out of my collection?
