The Giro

And Noval - who had already replaced Muravyev who had to withdraw with a stomach bug - has had to withdraw because of a stomach bug.0

Fears are mounting for guess who? AC of course. Apparently he was sharing with Noval.
Don't they use a personal chef, like they used to in Lance's day? USPS/Disco were well aware of this possibility of FPing and organised themselves with this in mind, for the big tours....

GroupOfOne MkII wrote:Yup far better than the 'Giro Preview' in Cycle Sport...they never seem to really bother with previewing the Giro properly do they? Always says Giro Preview somewhere on the front cover, and then all you get is an interview with an Italian cyclist and a couple of stage profiles of the key stages in the back.
When I saw Procycling didn't have their usual separate/pull out guide I was a bit fearful, but it was excellent as always.
Latest Giro news...Benjamin Noval of Astana is out with stomach problems, *ignites touchpaper and stands back*, hasn't that been used as a euphemism for something before?
Anyway, Steve Morabito is in for him, so shouldn't be a great loss.
Yeah, me too. I prefer the pullout feature.
It was an excellent preview of the Giro but one small thing: the profiles used jpeg text so it was near impossible to read the gradients. Too bad, they should have used Illustrator or something to convert the text so it would be more readable.0 -
Anyone remember that T-Mobile stomach bug that knocked out most of the team from the Vuelta a few years ago?
Most stomach bugs usually happen in the middle of a stage race, not before it starts.0 -

Maybe Johan's had the nod for a Tour invite from Monsieur Prudhomme.

Retro-style too... used the same product Ben Johnson got busted for in 1988. Old school.

A new low (or high?) in the "Moronic Bike Riders" department. They could detect that in 88, ferchrissake! If you absolutely wanted to get caught, that is exactly the way you'd go about it. I guess this is the cycling world's equivalent of natural selection...
Thanks for the BJ mention, as well. You just remember: we Canadians invented this whole doping scandal business.0 -
Some big news just in. Di Luca is tranquillo:
From cyclingnews:
Defending champion Danilo Di Luca is at the Giro d'Italia aiming to repeat his success of 2007 and, despite some tough times in recent months over doping allegations, said that he was fully concentrated on the task at hand.
"I am very tranquil, I am at one hundred percent," he stated at a pre-race press conference. "I am fully focussed. Two or three months ago, I showed that I am very clear of mind and I prepared myself like I wanted. Then when I knew about the decision [being cleared of doping in last year's race] I was more relaxed. But everyone who knows me knows that I was very confident."It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
No wonder he's tranquil - he's "at one hundred percent". His blood must be like ketchup.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0

Looks like it's going to three sets, so there's gonna be a delay. But like I said a page ago... Ivanovic is playing so who cares about cycling? :P
OK, maybe not. Bring on the cycling!0 -

Dementieva doesn't look too shabby either. It's only a time trial.Winner: PTP Vuelta 20070 -
How easy is it going to be for Astana to get through the giro with pretty much three captains? I would have thought that looking after all of these riders is going to be difficult. This may be especially true with all the early stages with late climbs but then i guess the teams would have to try and keep their riders near the front if it was on the flat as well. It may be more difficult though as gaps are going to appear on these stages with late climbs rather than there just being a possibility. Having said that i dont think any of the early hilly finishes will be enough to give big time gaps among the GC contenders so narrowing down the three to two or even one may not be straight forward. This does depend though on whether they really are not ready. If they know someone isnt going to finish high up then their job is easier. Going on the basis of yesterday then it looks as if Levi may not be quite up to the task, although that was just one stage.0
