Is there an embargo on Orange bikes?

See kids, this is what happens when two Orange riders disagree, the conversation moves quickly to career comparisons, driving licences and watches.
Next I'd imagine we'll move onto hand made leather sofa upholstry discussions and tv dimensions.0 -
And tbh I was winding people up because of the BMW stuff.
Not about the things I own, thats all true but with the "you should have tried harder at school stuff".
You're right the truth is you can buy a BMW for peanuts, they're common as muck and mean nothing about a person.
In fact a mate of mine (very well known Porsche racer and dealer) drives a £7000 BMW E36, simply because its cheap and very good for running the family around. He also owns 100k worth of ltd ed Porsche but prefers his E36 or even his Xr3i for every day running around.
Chill out dude, its all internet banter.0 -

Don't get me started on leather sofas.
My 4yr old drew an 18" spider on my white leather sofa in permenant marker.
Oh how we laughed... :?
Truth is I grew up in a three bedroomed semi in the Midlands.
My family has money from generations ago but we were just working class people really.
I was just lucky I fell into a good career which pays the bills and allows me to work in nice places.
If you knew me in real life you'd see I really don't flash my cash about, my BMW is about 10yrs old, I bought it solely because it was offered to me at a good price when I needed to get rid of my impreza because I was moving abroad and needed a cheap motor to use when I'm in the UK.
I bought an Orange bike because it was the best one in the local bike shop under a grand, now I'm wondering if I should have tried a Malt-4.
I was just being a prat really to wind people up because of the BMW and Orange jealousy thing.0 -
PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU OWN AND HOW WELL PAID YOU ARE.
You even got a little bit about owning a leather sofa in...
PLEASE KEEP CONTRADICTING YOURSELF.
PLEASE PLEASE TELL US MORE.
You have a ten year old 320 and some ponsy watch? And you are wittering on about being "better" than others?
Did you miss the POLICE training as in intensive Police driver training with real Policeman?! A bit more useful than bazzing around in a beaten up old Beemer and "knowing" a racing driver.
TELL US MORE - It's FASCINATING0 -

I tried to be nice to you but you're like a dog with a bone aren't you
I'm not really knocking the police (I used to work with them) but they aren't at the top of the food chain when driving is concerned, especially when all they were doing was taking a civvie out to run him through the motions. I did and continue to do my driving with the people who train the people who trained you. I'd go into it but like I say you'd just twist it or plain not believe me.
You sound to me like I've really upset you, I'm guessing people on here normally just let you run away with yourself and I've dared to give you a dig.
Who knows, maybe you're even a better driver than me, maybe you don't care or appreciate nice time pieces, maybe I really don't care either way.
Maybe I'm sitting here laughing because I'm bored and you're biting.
FWIW I hadn't seen the Porsche guy for about 10yrs and I bumped into him at a funeral at the weekend back in my home town, so I'm hardly bragging I'm well connected am I
Feel free to imagine all you like and twist anything to fit in with your BMW & Orange owners are the spawn of satan argument.
And I thought we were going to be all friendly and share hugs as well.0 -
Matteeboy wrote:And you are wittering on about being "better" than others?
BTW those are your words.
Me claiming I'm better than anyone because of the car I have on the drive is ridiculous.
It was a retort to the people slagging BMW drivers and you in particular claiming I was a failed lower manager.
However it does show you're a bit insecure.
Is your career taking a slide?0 -

That was a hell of a prize dude, lucky you.
Would you have bought one if you hadn't won it though (forgetting cost and assuming you could have bought any bike you wanted for the same price?)
For gawds sake don't admit to owning anything other than a £500 Ford though, look at the mess I got myself into0 -
ahh im 18 - no car yet!
Ironic thing is about 2 weeks before i entered the competition i was in the lake district having a discussion about the ultimate all round bike - i made my case for the orange 5, literally aid it waas my dream bike
hugely flukey piece of luck
of course i would have bought one sooner but couldnt afford it!0 -

Well if you believe in karma then you had some owing to you.
I also think its good that it went to someone who really wanted one but otherwise might not have been able to get one.0 -

One day I will own an Orange, I nearly got one recently but went for the Titus instead.
They are proven quality bikes, you can say they are overpriced, they are spec for spec, but if it floats your boat and you enjoy riding it then to hell with the cost!
Just get out and ride!0 -
Matteeboy is gonna love me. I ride a 1998 Orange Clockwork, and drive a 1996 BMW 328 touring. Both still ride and look like new, which I genuinely believe says something about the quality of both marques.0

Unfortunately I think Icarus has established that Orange owners have more money than sense.

How so?
I thought it proved Orange owners tend to be able to choose the finer things in life...and everyone else seems to be green (and rather annoyed) with envy.
I use Icarus because I like Greek mythology.0 -

Well its either that or they have small willys or something.
To categorise and insult someone based on what bicycle they ride or what motor car they drive is a strange concept.
What I always find is that as soon as I mention I drive a BMW or ride an Orange bike people instantly get defensive and try to persuade me that their car or bike is just as good or better.
The truth is I really couldn't care less.
This thread has generated a massive amount of interest, mainly from people very quick to jump on and show that their bike is just as good as an Orange and more recently that their car is just as good as a BMW.
Looks to me that instead of us Orange riders trying to show off its more like a lot of people are a tad insecure about themselves and very eager to prove that they are just as good as an Orange/BMW owner.
The proof is in the pudding...or should I say in this thread, its spoken for itself.
I don't need to prove my bike is as good as an Orange, it IS an Orange0 -
You seem to imply all Oranges are good though. A lot of the threads earlier on seem to be about people thinking that because it is an Orange, it is automatically good, regardless.0

supersonic wrote:You seem to imply all Oranges are good though. A lot of the threads earlier on seem to be about people thinking that because it is an Orange, it is automatically good, regardless.
Isn't that a fair point though.
I'm certainly not saying that all Oranges are the best full stop but if you buy an Orange you can be sure of at least a decent standard of bike.
Although in fairness you could probably say that about most well known brands.
Why does the Orange brand invoke such bitterness though?
Its like you've thrown down a challenge for people to prove their bike is better if you say you ride an Orange, people are just dying to tell you that you could have got something better for the same money.0 -
The bitterness seems to be invoked when people make blunt statements like 'Orange make the best bikes' or 'buy it because its an Orange' - everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it's not very informative when someone is asking advice on a bike, without these people giving more insight into the model of bike.
The value for money - on parts spec, it is fairly evident that they don't quite match the other big brands, for reasons outlined. A few other brands are the same, ie Cannondale, RM and Kona for example, however some still get good reviews and still are liked by many as they work well. Many people however do place a big emphasis on value for money. However, as we all know, a great parts spec doesn't mean much if the frame and geometry is wrong, but again, to assume Orange is simply 'better' because it is an Orange is nonsense. It may be better to some, but geometry can be a personal thing, as is ride feel. Construction and weight are more objective comparisons. Many brands have crept up that are offering light, feature packed frames, with great parts for amazing prices, and when these parts knock 3 lbs off the overall weight, perform better and last longer, people will buy them!
It comes down to testing in the end. If the tester likes the bike, then they buy it. If the only bike they like has a poor spec relatively, but has that X factor, then its the right choice. I've never had a problem with that, nor with people who say they buy a bike based on looks/brand name/reputation/built in uk/trends/whatever. As long as they admit and don't pretend its something else, or use these reasons to say the bike brand must be the best.0 -
Icarus, be careful you don't fly too high above the rest of us. The sun is hot....

This has nothing to do with Orange and BMW owners - I used both brands as an example and then Icarus stormed in here wittering on about "the finer things in life" and how well he's doing (even telling us about his watch). There was me thinking maybe he's got a new company 320 (not bad but boring) but he has a 10 year old 320 worth naff all AND it claiming to like "the finer things in life"
Now you Gravelrash have a "proper" BMW and aren't harping on about the "finer things in life."
Icarus has even put in a quip about my career not going well (!) - that's the thing with this group of people who try so hard to rise above the rest - they look like utter pillocks.
It seems that you pretty much all agree.
Sorry Icarus, but you'd hate it if you knew what I do (I'm saying nothing), it would REALLY hurt your measurement of success - but it's irrelavant.
What started as a playful analogy has turned into the type of person I consider worse than the lowliest chav - the social climber - harping on about success because he has a beaten up old BMW worth about £5k, an Orange bike and a tacky watch.
I don't care whether someone is a bog cleaner or runs Shell, if they are dull and rely of material wealth to guage success, then they are a waste of time.
I'm sure most will agree.
I do like the Orange Five AM though...0 -

A company 320, what do you take me for, an IT monkey.
A company 320 is about as cheesy as it gets, are you for real. My company car in Qatar was a hummer. My last company car in the UK was a 330ci, do you want pictures?
I've already told you I bought my 320 because it was offered to me for less than half of its worth and I needed a car I didn't care about to leave in the UK for when I come home occasionally.Matteeboy wrote:It seems that you pretty much all agree.
Good lad, now you've got some votes behind you to bolster your confidence you're back in the arguement, do proceed.Matteeboy wrote:Sorry Icarus, but you'd hate it if you knew what I do (I'm saying nothing), it would REALLY hurt your measurement of success - but it's irrelavant.
I sincerely doubt it kiddo.
Tbh though my job now although well paid is quite boring, it was much more lively when I was based in the middle east. It was also much better paid when I was a private contractor in Iraq but I'm on tenter hooks salivating at your tales of daring do with MI5 or whatever career you've invented for yourself.Matteeboy wrote:- the social climber - harping on about success because he has a beaten up old BMW worth about £5k, an Orange bike and a tacky watch.
My BMW in the UK isn't worth anywhere near 5k, its 10 years old (and I paid less than 3k for it).
My SP1 is worth about 5k, in fact my Rolex Daytona is worth about 5k, I'd be lucky to get 3k for the old BM.
As for the tacky watch comment that just shows your ignorance. I'm not claiming to be better than anyone because I collect watches but you claiming IWC and limited edition Omegas are tacky shows again you have no idea what you are talking about.
So where does that place me in your little league of peoples worth?Matteeboy wrote:I don't care whether someone is a bog cleaner or runs Shell, if they are dull and rely of material wealth to guage success, then they are a waste of time.
I quoted it all to wind you up and its obviously worked.
You came on warbling about Orange and BMW owners being failed managers, I felt insulted and took up your challenge. I think I proved you were talking cobblers. Of course its made me look like a barggard but it was the only way to prove you have no idea what you are talking about.
Please tell us what you do, I've got a long plane journey later and I need a laugh.0 -
I will rely on public opinion here.
Everyone else thinks you are a muppet too and agrees with me.
Watches are of no interest to me or most people here - mine all work fine for what I need them for and take the large amount of abuse they get thrown at them without problems. I view a flash watch as a serious negative.
A simple search will reveal what I do, but it's of no consequence as, to me, a career is in no way an indicator of whether someone is worth talking to.
You aren't.
Goodbye :roll:0 -
Icarus,
no offense mate, but you sound like a spoiled kid who spat his dummy out when someone said they really dont like yours toys.
Be quite and please stop self premoting, im a crappy accounts clark drivin an 03 ibiza and you know what, still think its better than a BMW cos it aint so ugly
Now quit it0 -
supersonic wrote:It comes down to testing in the end. If the tester likes the bike, then they buy it.
Absolutely.
I can't argue with anything you've said, I couldn't have really argued with the Cornwall yokel until he started his "failed manager" rubbish.
As I said I tried the Boardman Pro out but just didn't like the feel of it.
On paper it blitzes my P7 but I had the money and had the choice and chose the Orange.
Obviously that upsets people but thats life.
I think in life you always get people who get upset when someone else can afford to buy whatever they want even if it isn't the best on paper. You can wind these people up until they actually want to fight you by telling them you have even more shiny things, including a BMW.
Its the same with lots of things, my favourite car is Aston Martin, I don't own one but have been considering if I can afford to buy one, its always been my dream...but you should see people coming out of the woodwork to tell me its not the best car on paper and a waste of money. None of these people own anything close to an Aston Martin so what motivates them?
Very rarely will you get anyone saying well done if someone does well and buys a Ferrari, its all snide comments and jealousy. A local guy to me won the lottery and bought new cars and motorbikes, you should hear the slagging he gets in the pub just because he can now afford all these things - so what motivates these people?
I have almost everyone on here hating me...and for what? Because I revealled I earn a good wage, own some expensive watches and ride an Orange. I didn't kill any kittens, I haven't murdered anyone and I regularly give to charity.
I think Orange symbolises a huge amount of resent for people who can afford to make a purchase based on just what they want rather than what the magazines say is the best.0 -

Actually I spat my dummy out when yokel boy claimed I was a failed manager for owning the vehicles I do.
I put him straight and now he's crying.

Thats just crap,
Guy across the road from myself, had a tvr(we liked) crossfire(we hated and told him) and a ducatii(we had wet dreams and told him) stop making excuses for the fact you wind people and then are being smug about the ability to come off as a jerk.
people only tell you they hate it and all when you feel the need to constantly show it off, wether you do in real life or not is a different matter, but you are here. its not a nice trait.0 -

Stop the clock a minute.
I said I had a BMW and got jumped on and called a failed manager and a chav, it was claimed I was actually a pauper and trying to claim I'm something I'm not by owning a cheap 320.
I was knackered either way, I either shut up and let the yokel think he's all clever and right or I revealled I could actually buy 10 BMW 320's but drive the one I do out of choice.
I started this thread asking why people hate Orange bikes.
I didn't start it by saying I own loads of things and bragging, I was pushed into a corner and only started my wind-up when I was insulted.0 -
I want one of these:0
