My sexy new wheels

After having lived in Ireland for a number of years, I still can't figure out you Brits. Definitely red but with all the muck on the road, you are gonna spend more time washing it than riding it...
Looks good!0 -
I like the bike in general but a few things (not criticisms):
1. I find the only thing I can describe as sexy is a good looking girl Wheels would come into the category of 'nice looking'!!
2. I don't particularly like the white saddle and bar tape you have. Aesthetically I would think it would be better to have a standard black saddle and either black or red bar tape. Adding a 3rd main colour into the equation is distracting in my opinion.
However, as long as you like it that is the main thing, the rest of us can simply offer opinions and can be ignored.
Happy riding.0 -

he he. yes we are a funny bunch. But I assure you that bike fetishism is a roadie thing, not a Birt thing. I have lots of roadie mates over in the USA who are every bit as obsessional about their bikes (if not more).
Washing the bike is only necessary if I go out in the wet. Then I just hose it down. FIve minutes washing after 4 hours of riding doesn't seem over the top to me.0 -

The rules say that white tape and saddle is best.
Although matching saddle and tape, ie blue tape and saddle on a lampre bike is just as valid.
But there's never an excuse for black tape and saddle.0 -
Thanks for setting us right on that one, rd.
Rulz is rulz after all. Without them, there would be anarchy.0 -

Hi there.
Euro rules are ok if you wanna be a Euro Pro. Or if you are a wanna-be Euro Pro.
If you're not sure what category you're in try this test:
If you have been given a top end bike and matching team kit by your team and you are still a teenager you're in the first category.
If you bought your own top end bike and the matching team kit then you're in the latter.
Cheers, Andy
ps I did try white bar tape once - on my track bike (evidence here: See http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2006/au ... rnbull.htm ). The tape looked great until I'd changed the gears a few times, got my hands mucky... Iif you've got a team mechanic to put fresh tape on every week fair enough, but otherwise I'd recomend something a bit darker in colour.0 -

I am the mechanic, and I don't wear team kit.
These rules only really apply to your good bike, the winter bike can have black tape and black saddle (as mine will probably have). If your going to have a "minted" bike like Megacycles, its worthwhile pulling out all the stops.
On most bikes black tape and saddle, just looks plain boring and shyte. Of course if you get Fizik tape you don't really get an issue with it getting dirty, it wipes up easily enough.0 -

Never? I think you'll find you've very much mistaken.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Nah, that's Cipo's bike, he's above the rules.0 -
If its good enough for Cipo, its good enough for me. I won't listen to mere mortals prattle on about colour schemes. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0

I don't think I have much in common with Cipo, but I'll share with you we have the same shape ar*e, and the correct, nay, only colour for an SLR xp is of course black

Great pic, Ken Night.
Of course, I haven't yet confessed the worst part...I wear Quick Step colours and I have a predomonantly red bike.... oh dear, that will never do....0 -

You'll be ok with the white bar tape then ;-)0 -
i don't mind white bar tape even when it starts to get a bit grubby looking - makes the bike look 'lived in'.
it tends to clean up OK anyway and then replace it once a year or maybe twice if you are feeling extravagant. I like the whole white bar tape - white saddle thing:

I believe at least one of the riders decided to use a Roubaix as he found it more comfortable.
But I can't find the article now.....
what were we saying about winning roubaix on a roubaix...
check out the pictures on the front page of bikeradar - tom's bike - OK so it clearly isn't an off the peg roubaix as it has a horizontal top tube - but look at the dog leg stays with zertz inserts - someone in marketing will be getting very excited at the moment!0 -

I noticed that actually, didn't look like a Tarmac. Boonen has his own geometry because of back problems apparently.
Devolder was definitely riding a Tarmac though.0 -

I've heard they're going to strip him of the win because his bar tape was black. As highest placed finisher with matching white bar tape and saddle, the win goes to Ballan. Both Boonen and Cancellara were last seen flogging their mechanics...0 -
get the fizik white tape and it will stay white ...
toupe white saddle stays whilte but no longer cool.
white tyres never stay white but are pimping with gold shamal wheels for the first 5 minutes of a ride0 -
ahhhhhhhhhh! got my sexy new wheels on now as well - fulcrum racing 1 with michelin pro 3 tyres. they are siht hot!!! My husband really struggled to keep up today - I was just cruising at 22mph! Felt secure on some pretty steep descents at 35mph as well.0

Let's seen then...? ;-)0

last time I posted a pic of my bike, I spotted a big pile of dust on the skirting and someone else noticed something which looked like puke on the wall. I'll take a pic tomorrow but I'll have to clean up first (or take it outside - but then you'd notice the weeds!)

Ok, so it's not sexy, just a bike. But where does it rate on the shizzle-ometer?
Cheers, Andy
It is sexy, and has a high phwoar factor
I'm sure it'll ride like a dream. It looks lovely as the colours are good, and it sorta flows
Do you know what it weighs?“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best..." Ernest Hemingway0 -
Funnilly enough I had it on the scales at the lbs today - 8kg on the nose as pictured.0

Well, it's official. Tom Boonen won the Paris-Roubaix on an S-Works Roubaix. It's a Spesh ad in this week's comic, so it must be true.
Now i feel Speshul....0 -

It was a Roubaix SL2 wasn't it? A cross between a Roubaix and Tarmac SL2.....the stock frame wouldn't have been good enough for Tornado Tom.0 -
hmm...ok. I stand corrected.
