Hang on - valves must always line up with labels. No argument. I'm sure I could find reasons to do with fading light and astigmatism... Onlookers will see it and cringe - but be too polite to mention it (except on this forum of course)

    Thank you norman!

Let's see if we can't come up with a full set of ocd rules here:

    - Labels/valves lined up
    - QRs on LHS
    - Bars taped from the ends towards the middle
    - Tyres and wheels have to match each other
    - Excessive steer tube must be sawed off
    - Only one gadget on handlebars at very most
    - Bike always photographed in large chainring, with tyre labels at 12 o'clock
    - Preferably no riders in photo, and bike proped up by upturned wine glass under left hand pedal
    - And clean please!

    Any more? Keep 'em coming!

    ;-)

    Cheers, Andy

Bar tape wound clockwise on the right, anticlockwise on the left.
Chain on big ring at the front, smallest at the back
Rear mech cage hanging vertically downwards, cable outer entering mech horizantally..

How about, QR's should be positioned horizontally.

A spirit level can be used for increased accuracy!
    It's all good.

Nah they should be positioned parallel to the seat stay and fork surely?

not if you are looking for aero they shouldn't - horizontal is the way to go - present less of a frontal area to te wind!

Blimey. I found that the most helpful bit of information in this thread :D Worrying really.

I gained an average of 2-3mph after I positioned my QR's horizontally! Now I know how the pro's do it.

Do I need treatment andrew? I'm beginning to think so!
    Anyway:
Chris King headset: line up labels on top & bottom races
Distribute those little rubber things evenly on brake cable under top tube
    ...
    help!

You have those little rubber things on your cables? They we're the first things I removed, they're far to heavy!

he's right - i mean - have you felt the weight of those things - true schoolboy error using those.

and what about those litle crimp things that hold the brake cables from fraying - I thought the weight of those was going to crush the wheels!

Solder. Use wee drop of solder instead.

Wax is lighter. Speaking of weight savings:
    - No valve dust covers or valve screwy things.
    - Immediately wipe any break dust from forks and seat stays, while cycling if possible.
    - Make do with only one cable tie where two are required (computer and magnet mounts).
    Every winner has scars.

Not only that - have you seen the wind tunnel figures for them? They're just as bad as riding wheels without dimples.

I think you need some white bar tape (fizik perhaps) to match the saddle though. Then it'd look even better.

    I took your advice, reddraggon

Now you need to buy a new saddle to match the shiney whiteness of the new tape.

    That looks even better. 8)

How are you getting on with those bottle cages?
I bought a pair in Jan '07. They were okay for short while (weeks/months) but not long after my bottles started to rattle quite a bit (particularly the front).
I may have just been unlucky but as it wasn't apparent at first they do seem to have deformed/stretched. Easy access but to the point of annoyance when riding on anything but the smoothest surface.

I have the MTB version of the rib cage on my XC bike and that has been fine.

    You've missed:

    - Minimum 130mm reach stem, preferably <0deg
    - Minimum 150mm visible seatpost
    - Minimum 100mm drop from saddle to bar tops

    :D
  • HI there.

Has anyone mentioned saddle noses pointing up into the air? Is that comfy megacycle?

He he, I knew someone would mention that. It's because the only way I could fit the bike in was to use a wide angle lens. That gives rise to distortion. I assure you that the saddle is "Eddie Merckx" flat!

No probs! Another one to add to the list:

    - The use of wide angle lenses is discouraged!

I find having the saddle pointed up slightly works for me. I've got a habit of pulling myself onto the tip of my saddle when I'm trying to get low - If I angle the saddle a bit I keep in the correct position.

You don't need superpowers when you've got a sledghammer.

Alternatively why not find a different location to take the piccies?

Why didn't I think of that?

    Coz I'm thick.

You are right. Now the weather's better, I should take some proper pics outside.

Cool, I was worrying that this thread was starting to peter out...

Now if you're going to take some new photos, I hope you've been taking notes!
