Well I contacted CRC, and the LBS contacted Dedacciai, and we both got the same answer that the parts should be machined if the aluminium doesn't look "clean" (my description).

So I'm going to let them do it.

My saddle arrived to my house today, so now I just need some bars, stem and seatpost to arrive.

Chain Reaction Cycles, it was £450, but it's since gone back upto £600.

  • Looked very similar to frames someone up here in the North East was selling. About £450 they were, apparently from America but no name on them - and where did he really get them from!!!

Chain reaction have some good deals, just bought a Cannondale LE carbon jaciet reduced from £100 to £50.

Got my dream bike last year, Issac Impulse, record, Easton Ascent II and a very sexy Stella Azzura carbon chainset - the one with the blue star on it. Weighs about 15lbs.

I like all Stella Azzura kit - it's always good value and excellent quality, hope it's stiff enough for hills for you elaine dey
  • Its not as stiff as the Principia but then again that was an aluminium frame. The Principia was too long - top tube was about 53.3 for a 49cm frame. Isaac is about 50cm top tube - and as yet haven't spotted a stella azzura chainset on anyone's else bike yet. Hate having the same stuff as other people.

Who built your bike Elaine dey? I have been eyeing up the new Isaac frames recently. 8)

  • Bought the frame from shop in newcastle KB cycles - £1300 instead of £1600. They built it up. Mechanic at shop bought a Sonic at the same time - he liked mine better when he saw it. Usually build own bikes but was bit concerned as paid lot of money for frame and.......

Had my eye on them for a couple of years it was just a case of getting money together. Had a look at website and new ones look lovely.

Frame is still at the LBS, expect to get it back next Wednesday.

My bars, stem, and seatpost should (hopefully) all arrive today. I've got all the bits then, and I just need to build it.

I still don't know about this allen key thing for the Ultra Torque though.

    Cinelli Vai Palm Handlebars
    Cinelli Vai Oversize Stem
and Easton EC70 carbon seatpost (although it's carbon fibre - it doesn't have the aesthetic weave pattern that most carbon parts have)

Actually with all the bar tape I have lying about I can choose from red, yellow or carbon effect black.

But my tyres are red, so the bar tape will probably be red.

I still don't know about this allen key thing for the Ultra Torque though.

It's not difficult when you get down to it - did you miss this link earlier?

    http://www.parktool.com/repair/readcalv ... asp?id=154

An alternative to the Campag special long allen key is the torque wrench/socket extension/10mm hex bit combo. The latter is best as you can accurately torque this critical fastener.

Ideally you have a Park BBT19 or similar to torque the cups properly too (not forgeting the Loctite!)

I've got all the tools here in my workshop and you're welcome to use them, but it is a long drive down for you gogs! :-)

Aye I've got the BBT19 and the loctite 222.

Is just a 10mm I need? I can easily get hold of one at work, and cut it there. Is it just a (junior) hacksaw job or do I need something a bit beefier to cut an allen key?

I just used a junior hacksaw when I did mine. Don't go too fast to avoid heating it up and spoiling the heat treatment. Finished it off with a file to make it bit cleaner (since I used the cut end in the bolt, the other end of mine having a ball on!)

Thats nice kit - not seen the palm bars before they look smart though and the Vai kit is really god value - I have a Vai stem on my current road bike - are the bars quite stiff with the flattened section?

the seatpost is a good choice too - I like the easton kit too.

Funny that you say about the decorative layer cos my entire frame doesn't have a top coat either!! - I didn't actually realise that about the s-works to be honest - all the other models have the decorative weave but not the s-works. It's quite cool though - it's all a bit swirly-random-deep-looking a bit more subtle than the campag cranks, but nice all the same.

I think so, I haven't managed to flex them off the bike, I've tried but they seem quite stiff, thankfully.

Just to gather all the parts in one place now.

I just tried to cut an allen key - the teeth on the saw just smoothed off and didn't make a dent on the allen key.

    I guess I'm stuck.

As it turns out the 10mm hex bit I have for my torque wrench just fits, ~3mm and I would have been stuck.

42Nm is some bloody torque though.
