2:i have two bikes, most pimp bikes your ever likely to see.also have access to over a 150 bikes.
    think thats another winner

3:ride most nights doing mad sh!t on the streets, also like to rip it up on weekends.

4:plenty mahoosive bails, tore all the muscle off my neck. also broke a toe once
    hardcore or what

5:would have to say only thing on a bike i cant fix would gas pressurized rear shock, as i have no means to refill it.

6:i do indeed work in the bicycle selling trade, as a mechanic. so im pretty sure i should win straight up.

if anyone deserves the hat i think its me, could i get two please??
  • 1-DH, street, freeride

2-customized giant acid team series and muddyfox childs bike

3-every single day for at least 30mins

4-not really specially big crashed a 8 ft to flat

    5-easy

6you get a bonus point for working in a bike shop, or something bike related.-i go to school

7.i have a DH track in which you go down a straight round a berm afterwards the option of doing a hip jump to a berm or a straight jump onto a drop which can range from 2 to 6 ft depending how far you launch round a off camber corner round another berm to the end which only takes 20 to 40 seconds to do.
just opposite that is an 11 ft drop, some sweet trials stuff and drops ranging from 2ft to 7ft. -All of this shared between 2 friends :D

  • #1you must ride more than 2 styles, ie dh, trails, dirt jump, freeride park, street, road etc.
cross country/mild downhill, small drop offs round town up to about 3 feet (not sure whether that counts as 'street'?) and road - for commuting mainly.

#2you must own 2 or more bikes
AM-type bike (canyon nerve es 5), road bike (no drop handlebars though)

#3you must ride at least twice a week

try to, mainly (well solely) the peaks and wharncliffe now and again, don't often manage twice as it's normally dark by the time I get home from work in the evening and I work 9-5. I do however sometimes pull a sicky just to go riding though. Do I get a bonus point for that?

#4you must have had a big crash

nope. disagree that this should be a prerequisite. Keeping the possibility of death to a minimum bolsters my confidence and is thus better for my riding.

#5you definatly must be able to change a tube/fix a puncture and change the brake pads on the bikes you own and you must be capable of doing a basic clean/service.
    yep.

#6you get a bonus point for working in a bike shop, or something bike related.
    nah, sorry.

    so do I qualify then?

  • 1. Trailcentres, natural trails, up hills, down hills, over rocks and roots, on roads... Basically whatever's in front of me. Like what mountain biking's about innit

    2. Cove Stiffee - my main bike. GT Aggressor - spare bike for friends to ride. Very old road bike, crap BMX. I can only afford one "real" bike, although I may get a full suss one day.

    3. I work 6 days a week, so at the moment weekday riding is pretty much commuting. Get out properly most Sundays though, if I'm not walking.

    4. I've come off a few times. Have some wee scars.

    5. I can do most of my own maintennance, certainly have no trouble changing a tyre or pads. I tend to take it to the shop for bigger stuff though, 'cos a) it's my pride and joy and b) sadly I don't have the time to sit and tinker as much as I'd like.

    6. Never worked in the industry. I give them a lot of money though.

oh my god! it was meant to be light hearted, but it's like the most popular thread on here!! we are all real mountain bikers! even if you don't ride! it's just the attitude and the ethos. this thread is like a more thoughtfull way of saying, "what bike do you ride and where do you ride it" but wow, i never guessed i could offend so many people without even meaning to!

GUYS, RELAX!! brethe! it's ok! you are all real riders! i find it really ammusing to see how everyone gets uptight about it though! if you were a real rider, you'd say "ha i know i'm a real rider and i don't care if anyone says i'm not, i do it cause i love it and i don't care!" thats what makes a real rider, all you people getting uptight are the all the gear no idea crew who have to prove that they are something!

anyway i think enough people have been upset by this thread... could one of the moderators please close it now so forum riders can go ride other threads and not take this one to another hundred posts!??

    i was talking to a mate the other day and we decided that to be a 'real' mountain biker you must have to equate to the following;

#1you must ride more than 2 styles, ie dh, trails, dirt jump, freeride park, street, road etc.
#2you must own 2 or more bikes
#3you must ride at least twice a week

    its all xc

i own 1 bike for each discipline (probably around 15 now if you include free-lite and gnarl-ride) and have a set of tyres for every type of weather or ground condition.

if you were really a proper mountain biker then you'd know that its not about how much you ride, but more about how rad you can look whilst drinking your tea next to your bike. i think i'm pretty good at it quite frankly, especially when padded up. i can even stroke my beard and stand around for hours at jump spots.

normally, i aint got time to bleed, but i was once 16 hours in theatre having my severed head sewn back on after a particularly nasty crash trying to ride xc on my all-mountain bike. like, duh... what was i thinking??

tubes are for losers & brakes are for wimps.

    w-o-r-k? what is this “w o r k” that you speak of?

ps. call me old fashioned, but in my book a 'real' mountain biker shouldve ridden 'mountains' on his or her 'bike' to actually qualify

Wow let me see... I'm too poor to afford 2 custom built bikes and mummy and daddy ain't about to buy me one for christmas so i must be a "pretend Biker".
Don't have time for 2 rides a week despite commuting daily.
I do work in a bike shop occasionaly, buit that probably ain't good enough to be a "real biker"

    How about we try,
    Your a real biker if...

1, you love getting bike, that first push off, sense of freedom.
2, it dosen't matter how good you are/how long you've been doing it
    3, you own a bike.

    XC all mountain and jump
    I own six bikes
all but three are crap (do rusting 24inch kids bikes count if they do I have more than ten and what about frames?)
I try to do three rides a week
I cack myself going over any drop bigger than three feet (yeah note the measurement unit as a sign of age)
I am nowhere near as fit as I once was
I struggle to pay for the whole familys bike obsession (there are six of us)
The wife wants to build a north shore structure in the garden (!?FFS!)
but as I cant even REMEMBER the questions and I definitely dont work in a bike shop I guess I must be a pretend biker! Damn....
Any jobs in bike shops going? (only those in vancouver need apply)
I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.
