Mark are you going to ride all the BAR distances this year? I really really dont want to do a 100 but I can see it happening. That and the HC, but ist up the Tumble, which I can just about get up let alone race. Already in for the 12 hour.

The Bar is the Best All Rounder competition. It consists of your best time in one of the many 50's. Best time in the two 100's and the 12hour. The best speed from each one then gets avaeraged and you get a BAR av. speed. Being a math's teacher I've just made a pigs ear of trying to explain that![:o)]

The top 12 (in Wales) then get invited (i.e. FREE ticket) to the Wca lunch in November.

Go on ask who the team chapions are[:I][:I]

I thought the oggies may put up a challenge this year but it looks like you're struggling for a third rider.[;)]

Imo, it's a great competition as it encourages you to do the long (less popular) events.

Mark, have a go at a 100. The wwcl 100 is on the same roads as you road today but obviously a bit further, I think it goes back to Carmarthen. It's a vey rewarding ride.

The 12hr is a different animal, so fair enough build up to it.

    1) 19'26.04" 9.7mph 477m AvHR 133 3.142 miles

Thats this evening after an hour this morning at 5-30 am.

I'm not doing a 100TT either, its the hardest of the lot, plus the WCA 100 is on the same day as the dragon. The 12 hour is different, its a carnival (unless its raining) I'd have a go Mark, its all about finishing; and so few people do it, it has an almost mythical aura about it immediately bestowing a halo of invincibility around each participant. At least thats the b*****s that convinced me to do it..[B)]. I shall be tapering for it by spending the prior 2 weeks lounging around on a beach/pool/bar.

  • WCA Hill Climb is on the 30th Sep, on the RH/11 which I <i>think</i> is the Tumble. You'll need to enter as any normall TT event, the organisers detais are in the CTTC handbook. I've got the info if you need it, just email me from my profile if you need the address and/or email address

hi guys, how are things. I'd like to run this by you as a training route.

    Cardiff > Ely > Barry > Llantwit Major > Monkash > Southerndown > Ewenny > Newton > A48 (E) to Cowbridge > Pontyclun > Miskin > Llandaff = 63 miles

  • May I suggest an alternative:

Bridgend -> Treorchy -> Hirwaun -> Brecon -> Sennybridge -> Glynneath -> Croeserw -> Cimla -> Blackmill -> Bridgend......[:)] That should just about cover it [:)]

The journey out is allright, not a fantastic road. Allright in a group as you can chat but on it's own it's a bit boring, especially if there's a head wind.
After LLantwit Major it improves a lot as the back country roads are more scenic.

A48 Back to Cowbridge again isn't great- got some rises and falls (wouldn't call them hills) and shouldn't be to busy with the M4 nearby.

A more attractive route would be From Ewenny turn off the B4524 and take a minor road past Llandow and to Nash Manor where it joins the B4270. Then take the B4270 North into Cowbridge.

Llantrisant road (or the A4119) is quite nice from that direction, it can get busy at rush hour and it's quite bumpy, but nice nonetheless.

1 thing that route is bumpy but has no long climbs only short sharp steep ones. If you fancied adding a hill then take a left off the A4119 about halfway along and there's a climb that goes on up to Pentyrch. It's a nice pretty climb, not too steep but prolonged (depending on which road you take up). Then descend towards the A470 and Taffs Well, the road turns right, through Morganstown, and follow this back to the A4119.

Maybe 4/5 miles extra in total.

Hi guys, I hope everyone has logged on to the site despite the changs that i'm not happy with.

All's well, I'v been out and raced well. I've got a new PB on one of the 10 courses (8 secs off) but missed out on my overall PB by 2 secs so am gutted but it's motivated me no end.

I've been out on my original bike for my training rides and left the new Carbon bike in the flat. it feels good to know you have something in your pocket.

    How are you all?

If this course is as good as people say, it should lead to a lot of season pb's and pb's for newbies. Hope you all have a good ride.

When in my prime..many many years ago.we had a chain gang... it used to go- Fromstock(Gabalfa Interchange) along A470 to Abercyon and back, Tues and Thurs. In those days thats wheere A470 dual carriage way ended. we rode it Summer and Winter, alot of the valley boys would ride down and do it one way, the Thornton Bros fom Newport would do it both ways if we could stop them from fighting. Ajax 10 would be on the flats on Friday and if no RR on Sun about 80-100 club run. This was in 1973-76, maybe old welshman was there but I can't remember him.
My favourite training ride was from Pentrebane, Peterson Super Ely Welsh St Donats, Cowbridge,St Athan Barry and back, about 30 miles...1;hour 40 when going well.
Did it at Xmas in 1.50, 35 years later and was chuffed with that!

Hi Steve, i've found our topic at last!

Thanks for th mention. I hope it's me

if you go to http://www.ctt.org.uk/ the results are (surprisingly) on the results link. rob Wood won with a 50.38. Note the poor bugger who got a 1h 00.01.

Just think, he could have arrived back and finished his 1st cuppa by the time we got in! now there's an incentive!
Do you know who was photographing us at the 2nd turn?

    most importantly though
who's the girl serving the tea? I think her name was Sarah.

Julia normally gets the results out quickly, they were on the WCA site within a day or so.

Don't know, but he's often at S wales DC events taking pics.

Again don't know, was too sh*gged to notice. Still scratching my head as to how I get beatne by 2 71 yr old vets who I easily beat in the MD6 (expected since its faster) but also in the 50, which I rode with a hangover...there really is no logical consistency to testing.

  • If the road is wet there is a small reduction in rolling friction. Every little helps.

A bit before my time, I am not quite that old :D I was in Ajax around 81 to 84 but remember the chain gang rides and remember Colin Thornton.
There used to be a 10 run from Treforest estate and then onto A470.
I used to do Track on Wed evening at Maindee.
