Seemingly trivial things that cheer you up

Perhaps it would cheer you up that a terrible oversight meant that I had no butter for the turkey sandwiches. Quelle catastrophe!

Had a gang of long tailed tits swoop down into a garden tree and started clearing it of insects a few days ago. They weren't too timid either.
Not my pic, lovely looking birds.

Dry. Terribly dry.

...or that the photo of the golden eagle I saw wasn't that great? See, I really am trying.
The lush stuffing saved the sandwiches, BTW.

That's just a buzzard. Or a crow. Yes, a crow.

It's the black ice that will get you.
Although we all have rickets in the UK at the moment, the plus side of all the still foggy weather is that I have spent 3 hours on the Tamar this week and it has been like glass, just me the mist and some birds.

Yeah, still have to be careful as the nights are distinctly parky, and some pockets really hold the cold. But there are long stretches on the less minor roads that warm up and dry out quickly, and the road surfaces tend to make any anomalies obvious. But rule no.1 is not to head into any bits of road that you can't scope well at a speed greater than you could stop in on the road that you can see.
Yeah, dead still here too, as it was yesterday on my mountain. Makes a nice change. Glad that you've had some jolly boating weather.

That's pretty crazy for one week. I guess FB isn't dead yet, at least amongst middle-aged women in France.

Listening to some of my old vinyl records for the first time in 40 years since I got my first CD player.
Importantly, the distinct lack of crackle, hiss and pop as they were looked after. Turntable must be 45 years old too.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
Picked up an ermine (stoat with white coat) on the garden wildlife cam.

He's seen this week's weather forecast then!

Currently getting lots of Hunt sab posts on my faceache page showing lots of frustrated huntsmen ( should that start with a C)

I have no idea what this means. But happy new year anyway.

Cuntsmen.

Likewise, "sab"?
"sad" or am I just old? Yes, I know I'm old either way. 😂

Hunt Saboteurs. The folk who get their heads kicked in trying to stop those twats in fancy dress who get a hard on by killing defence less animals.

Clouds clearing a bit just as there was a strong burst of aurora. Still visible on camera (and probably eye if you’re somewhere dark) if you have a clear sky.

The clouds seem to have have finally cleared, so I'll have a look later. Venus is very bright.

If I can stay awake that long, I'll have a look when the street lights go out at 11pm here... no street lights within 50km, so if there's anything then, I should see it. It's already been noticed at Grenoble earlier, even with all its light pollution.

Stats have dropped now, hoping there’ll be another burst later.

Stood out in the dark for 10 mins, saw very bright stars, and the best I could do was imagine a slight glow. Someone else has posted a photo from about 40km away, but I think most of the glow is from a town's lights.

The levels had dropped off by then, it was at its most intense from when it first got dark for about an hour or so. It stayed visible for longer up north and I had a very faint glow on camera around 9pm but doubt you’d have had anything that far south by that time. If in doubt view through your camera / phone.

I had a look from the garden last night, no detectable aurora, but the clarity of the stars was incredible. Did some test shots with the camera to see what it would pick up. To my surprise 28mm f2 at ISO200 15sec caught a considerable number. The stars were actually visible through the viewfinder.
I also witnessed the brightest shooting star streaking across the sky. Just read about the Quadrantid meteor shower, present at the moment, which explains the sighting. Apparently one of the ‘strongest’ displays. Tonight should be clear again.

Damn, not here. Grey, grey, grey. Cornwall looks better (not often I'd say that).

Well by the looks of it, I think you’ve had your fair share of sunshine. 😉
Today was glorious when I I started my ride, then quickly turned to hail, sleet, then finally rain, just to make sure. BBC’s forecast- 0% chance of precipitation.Tonight might not be so clear here after all.

[caveat] I'm not a snapper, nor do I possess the latest in mobile phone tech; but ☝️ underlines Venus', current, brightness. Taken in Somerset, some 20 minutes ago. [/caveat]
