Seemingly trivial things that cheer you up

Probably the one... a mini supermarket type of thing. We were only there for a day, so didn't do the restaurant thing. I wonder if they hoick their prices for the ski season though...

Probably the one...Chamonix isn't the cheapest as its so well known/popular, but its worth it as it's a great place. I don't dish out the word 'awesome' that often but the views are just that.

Zapping good reblochon on some baguette in the microwave for 30 seconds. Why have I not done this before?

Because it makes the bread soggy.

It's good on crunchy baguette though, as the middle is all gooey, but the crust still crusty.
Once made the mistake of buying U's 'tartiflette' cheese,,, just didn't goo properly. Now they do an own-label unpasteurised reblochon, and it's very good indeed.

I'm going to challenge that any bread that has not previously been put through a coking process will remain crunchy after 30 seconds in a microwave.

OK, maybe not 'crunchy', but still definitely still recognisably crust, and the inside a lovely gooey mess, not water-soggy.

Looking forward to 'death by cheese' when I get to France next month. Will probably be Raclette poisoning...

It makes my consumption of lardy cake look positively healthy in comparison.

Got a selection of farm cheeses from a place in Yorkshire, having to keep hands off them until Christmas Day!

I encountered something called fransecina in Porto. Basically a warm cheese processed meat sandwich with cheese and something like Bolognese sauce on top. Truly life shortening.

Sounds a bit like a Chicken Parmo.

I'll definitely be a bit lardy by the end of the holiday.

That brings back a memory of when I saw a menu in Portugal where they seemed to have made all the food look happy.

It's the same ingredients, but I can't tell which one is deconstructed.

Francesina is definitely the most unhealthy food I've ever seen. I'm surprised they don't have a health warning.

That's another successful kids Christmas dinner and presents complete and over. Much more chilled from here on in.
(We decided a while ago that Christmas Day was too short to visit everyone so we decided to try the European thing of starting celebrations for the 8 grandchildren on Christmas Eve. That timing proved problematic too so the 23rd is our big day for the little ones.)
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
The footage of the rioter who got jailed getting hit in the nads by a brick thrown by other rioters. Comedy gold.

Sun's up here, Christmas picnic all in hand, X marks where it should be consumed.
Have a good day whatever you're up to, punks.

Success. Proper hot Christmas lunch, in the snow, at about 1000m 😃 The red wine might have been a touch under temperature though...

Brian, this isn't cheering the rest of us up.

Would it make it less bad if I told you that putting the plate in the snow to take the photo rather undid the efforts I went to to get everything there while it was still hot? Rookie mistake, must do better next year.
Still, it was warm, as was the Christmas pud.
Damn, sorry, I was trying to cheer you up.

No, I think that just serves you right.

Maybe steer clear of the photo thread, unless you want to give free rein to your murderous thoughts... incoming #snowporn

I trust you were wearing shorts.
I was pleased with the openness of London today as we enjoyed our wander around and Christmas lunch in somewhere that I should be ashamed of.

For a change I wasn't, and I can cheer up @First.Aspect in that, as I wasn't wearing gaiters, I left my trousers over the socks to prevent the snow getting my socks wet and going in the boots. At least I'd had the foresight to take my microspikes to prevent inelegant manoeuvres on the icier bits.
I hope you're feeling a bit perkier.

Did it rain? That would cheer me up.

I managed a 5 mile walk today, so a good level of perkines although no mountains were involved.
Do you have a safety plan in place in case you slip on ice? Not wishing to sound like your mum, but we don't want to be down to 22 posters by the new year.

Let me see...
Mind you, that sun all through the night makes it a bugger to get to sleep.
