Campag Shamal Carbon
I ordered some campag shamal carbon wheels from Chicken Cycles and got the wrong freehub so exchanged for the correct one.
First set of wheels were perfect but the second set appears to have been subject to some rather 'agricultural' sanding on the rim bed where the carbon has been joined. I assume this has been done to smooth the rim bed and prevent any punctures but it just looks crap and is not a level of finish I'd expect on a campag product.
The wheels also came in an unbranded box and without the campag certification swing tags. I am not worried about them being a genuine product, but more whether these have been returned by someone previously and even whether the sanding job has actually been done during campag production ?
Any thoughts? As it is just cosmetic and internal so can't be seen once a tire is mounted, would you just put up with it or should I get in touch with cc and see what they say?

No, don't ever put up with thinking something that expensive isn't legitimate.

I would be sending them back.

I would contact them regarding your concerns. Reads like they are returns and you've paid for the full package including tags.

I suspect this is probably the case. I am certain the wheels are legit, my concern is that someone has had them and decided to do a bit of home DIY on them to get the rim bed even, bodged it and sent them back. I know this is probably unlikely and the sanding has been done during production but it is badly done IMO.

It is increasingly the case that with carbon fibre you are better off buying direct from China. The latest imports are stunning, quality is impeccable. The days of horrible, resin heavy rims of dubious quality bought on Alibaba are long gone.
These days Farsports charge premium for their wheels and carbon bits, and rightly so

Would they be who you would recommend to buy a set from?
Looking at maybe getting some carbon wheels, the VEL RSL2 with dt 240 hubs at sigma look tempting at the current price, a local wheel builder uses venn var 507 rims but it looks to be around £1250 for those with dt 350, tripple butted bladed pillar spokes and brass nipples.

Light Bicycle and Farsports (use the Wheelsfar page for custom builds) will both have discounts available this month. Someone suggested 20% off for builds at Light Bicycle with DT350 hubs but hasn't been advertised yet. Wheelsfar have 10% off available across the board.

I’ve just ordered at LB and received 15% off my order as part of the Black Friday deals. 20% isn’t being offered anywhere as far as I can tell (might be different with 350 hubs but I built with 240s) The discount is applied when you receive your invoice, rather than receiving a unique code.

An Italian recommending Chinese wheels over Campagnolo! That's sacrilege Ugo 😉
To be fair it was a toss up between these or a set from 9velo. In the end I just went with campag as I preferred the gloss finish on them.
Have contacted the supplier and am waiting to hear back.

I thought you'd left the forum. Good to have you back.
We will take anyone we can get these days.

Comedy value.
There were a few more but I'm useless at names.

How many times did he get banned and come back under a pseudonym? I did enjoy the little tete a tetes between him and Imposter.
I am sure he ended up buying a 12 grand Bianchi with super record eps which was about 2 sizes too small. When this was pointed out he claimed he'd had a bike fit and had to have that size as when he was on the hoods his back was shaped like a prawn 😂

I think the straw that broke his back was the Two Garmins "debate". Or maybe how much water he had to carry as there were no shops or cafes on his rides. 😂

Were those the 15km rides at about 40 mph where he couldn't get his heart rate up?

Not that I remember, must be another story. Respectively one was recording the massive amount of miles he covered in a year, the other was 100k plus rides with multi bottles and hydration packs IIRC.

haven’t really left… just there isn’t much going on, so I don’t read the forum for days, which then become weeks and months

I thought it was someone else who couldn’t find shops or water. Muncher used to have his lunch stops when he was doing his guided tours at the local Weatherspoons. These were the tours where he would advise people to use 53 x 11 and pedal at 30 revs a minute.

Very possibly. All good entertainment though. 😉
