Camera for riding and commuting

Hi, has anyone got a suggestion for a bike camera for use when commuting and riding in general? If it can pair up as a camera for recording footage when MTB'ing thatd be a bonus but no problem if not.

Looking mainly at the cycliq ones or the garmin varia rct715

thanks

If you need a camera that can fulfill multiple roles, the Garmin Varia RCT715 may be a good choice. In addition to capturing video, it has a taillight and alerts you to nearby traffic - useful safety features. One potential downside is the battery life isn't as long when the recording function is active. For mountain biking specifically, some prefer the GoPro Hero11 Black due to its image stabilization, which helps produce smoother footage over rough terrain.

  • I would avoid cycliq ,they are plagued with issues and customer service is terrible .

Last rear 1 I had lasted 1 ride and had water inside it .

You need to send it to.Australia and it takes forever

Go with garmin or go pro ,the new Garmin radar with the camera looks good ,I use tge rear garmin radar without the camera and it's great

  • Beg to differ - I have one of the new Cyclig Fly6Pro rear cameras - quality of recording absolutely unbelievable. Features and spec way in advance of previous models. Also, battery life way in excess of either Garmin or Go Pro.

  • I’ve had a few front cameras and a Cycliq Fly6 rear camera. Started off with a Fly 12 front camera, it stopped working after a couple of years. It was OK while it lasted, but I thought it was expensive for what it was (just under £300). I then moved to a Mk1 ChilliTech Bullet Cam for the front. This was cheap - about £50, and comes with a handlebar and helmet mount. It’s fairly basic but does the job. It doesn’t have WiFi transfer of files to a a phone or tablet, meaning you had to take the SD card out to view the footage on a laptop. The handlebar mount was very rattly. I still have this camera but don’t use it. I think the Mk2 version is better, with a better mount and it’s still quite cheap at about £80. I had a successful prosecution of a motorist using the footage from this camera.

I replaced the ChilliTech with a Techalogic CF1 combined camera and light, which does have Wi-Fi transfer of files to your phone. It was around £105. The run time is about 4 hours with the camera on and light in flashing mode, longer in camera only mode. This is my current camera. It fits on a Go-Pro mount. On the rear I’m still using the Cycliq Fly6 that I bought about 6 years ago. Run time is about 6 hours with the light and camera on. So I can recommend the Fly 6, but wouldn’t recommend the Fly12.

Wouldn't doubt any of that it was the water ingress after 1 ride that was the problem me and 3 friends were the same ,with 1 lasting 3 rides .Do you use it in wet weather ? Apparently the newest unit claims to be ip67
