Another LOL post. If there's one thing that will drive Trump even crazier is people laughing at him.

doubt his followers will be swayed, but his unhinged display may nudge a few more undecideds to harris
i watched a few clips, he really is barking

If you watch it she does put him on the defensive and I'd say she won the debate - he doesn't come across as unhinged or incoherent though that's just wishful thinking.

Let’s see if it shifts the polls… don’t think anyone learned much they didn’t know already.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we get some manufactured videos of people eating pets

if someone stated as fact their fantasy that the town is rife with haitian pet eaters, i'd call them unhinged

If you actually watch the debate he loses it but he doesn't come across as unhinged in the way Biden truly did at times. He does come across as angry and defensive and has trouble defending some of the more extreme things he's said in the past.

I wouldn't say Biden came across as unhinged, senile, but not unhinged. The two are quite distinct in my view.

It's the more extreme things that Trump says that make him seem unhinged.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Nudging the undecideds is the plan I am sure. I know Rick is if the view that as Trump is a moron any decent candidate should hammer him but I think that misses the point. We are no longer in rational debate territory, this isn't Obama vs McCain. Trump supporters are voting Trump no matter what, it's about getting enough of those Republicans who still have some integrity to vote Harris.

I think maybe you have a different definition of unhinged to most. Biden looked lost, weak and confused.
The "they're eating your dogs, I saw it on TV" rant was proper unhinged. So is the "they want to kill babies after they're born". Harris was very good at getting the debate onto territory that makes him look crazy.
He also continues to think that "asylum seeker" means that they are coming from mental asylums.

Ok Biden looked senile - the point is Trump did not look unhinged and he wasn't incoherent. He didn't look like someone who was losing the mental capacity to govern.

Sure, it's not unexpected from him, but it's truly unhinged.
He got more and more riled as it went on, with Harris leading him to places that made him go off the rails.

Well done. What's your point?

If you want the polls to shift they need to show something that wasn't well known to everyone.
Like Biden's obvious deterioration. We had suspicions, but the debate absolutely confirmed it.
What does this one show that we didn't know already?

It might not be new to people interested in politics, but an unvarnished view of him could easily confirm the "weird" vibe.
What would your suggestion be to shift the dial?

There are Republicans and/or swing voters still in denial about Trump being a self-centred loony toon.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I'd missed in the insanity that he claimed Harris wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison.

You keep saying, quite rightly, not to listen to people who hold the same views as us. In that regard, the importance of the debate is not what it revealed to people who know something about the two candidates and are either 100% decided on their vote or close to. It is more about how it played to people who are undecided.
When we are talking about swing voters in the main we are talking about Independents or those who are probably traditionally Republican but dislike Trump, I doubt many true swing voters are staunch Democrats (a hunch, I have no evidence for this). I was listening to the Rest is Politics podcast and they made an interesting point, quite a lot of such voters will know a lot about Trump but not necessarily Harris. Okay, a debate might not shift the dial, but it could. 67 million watched, and we don't know how many of these may have been swayed by it.
I always think of the first Nixon/Kennedy debate. A sweating flustered Nixon gave the impression to many that he was a bit shifty and that worked in Kennedy's favour. A flustered Trump against a pretty composed looking Harris gives a clear optic. Again, maybe it didn't make a difference, but we are not potential voters so we don't know.

TBH I still remember Hilary Clinton "winning" all her TV debates against Trump, quite comfortably.

Yes, but that is my point. You and I are going to say Harris 'won' whatever that may mean, but that is irrelevant. Say you are a retired steelworker in Pennsylvania, white male in his 60's. You voted Trump first time around but Biden in 2019. You are undecided and don't know anything about Harris and are leaning towards Trump, even though you have strong reservations. Again, we don't know, but debate performance could change your mind.
As we have said, most voters will either be 100% Trump or 100% Harris. You have made the valid point as to what shifts the dial for those who aren't committed. I suspect it is not going to be some major policy change or event, it is probably going to be something that to us would be innocuous, but to someone else may clinch their vote.

Swift supporting Harris, Musk supporting Trump. Strewth, that's some big hitters.

And then Comey stiffed her at the 11th hour with the FBI investigation into her email servers that came to nothing - That put enough doubt in voters minds and cost her the election

I think it was a mistake for Clinton to label Trump supporters as 'deplorables', too... it might have been true, and it might have raised a smile from the Dems, but I'm not aware of Harris denigrating Trump voters, just Trump.

Absolutely - it's a bit like the Brexit supporters are racist line - insulting people you are trying to win over is not a great argument.

Trump doesn’t want any more live debates. His carers have probably advised against it.
