There speaks a bowler 🤣

Passed the 200 mark now, so an excellent recovery.
The focus will soon switch to England’s under powered batting line up. It looks so fragile to me.

Not even 17:00 and it's too dark to bowl the quicks.
Ah the English summer

It’s coming back with a vengeance, next week apparently.
Starts on the day I fly off to Mallorca. Par for my course.

Probably means thick fog in the depths of Cornwall.

Cornwall will be shite from 7th September as that's when I'm arriving.

And I get back from Mallorca.
The weather in the West of the UK is doomed!!!
So, Sri Lanka managed to post a half decent score and England didn’t lose a wicket in the gloom.
Who would have thought?

Good cos I'm at Lords next Friday

Well, as discussed in the Ashes, an average 1st innings score at OT is about 330.
Although this pitch does have some variable bounce. See how it goes tomorrow.
The forecast has got quite a bit better but still there will be a delayed start, minimum, I reckon. Rest of the Test looks like sunny spells and windy with some showers, I don't think there will be quite the same light issues as today with the heavy cloud.

Actually club umpire these days.
I've tried resurecting my career from 30 years ago as a dibbly dobbly off break bowler but I can't do anything consistently. It's either launched like a mortar, dropping on top of the batter, or my own toes are in danger :D
I have played a couple of games this year and may have a late career as a div 12 hacker in our 2s.

Everyone on the BBC thread complaining about the rain in Manchester... Conveniently ignoring that there is currently no play in the county championship at Edgbaston, Southampton, Middlesex, or Yorkshire, and the rain radar looks like this:

I've just started playing at 36 for reasons I am not entirely sure about sometimes, so far I have played one game in the 4s and got a two ball duck. I can't bowl.
I seem to be able to hit it quite nicely in the nets, I quite like all the technique that's involved, but I need to get over the nerves of being in the middle.

Manchester is right in the path of Storm Lilian, tomorrow too.
Bowlers should get a fair bit of swing in 80mph winds!

Couple of iffy decisions to start with: Lawrence given out when it looked high and was. Ducket given not out when it looked like it was hitting leg stump and was.
That's what DRS was meant to do correct the obviously wrong stuff

Looks like it'll ease off, there's a yellow wind warning until 11 (gusting 40-45), dropping off into the afternoon.

Not a bad little contest so far. Root and Brook look pretty settled (fingers crossed as usually saying this results in wickets falling)

He lasted 10 minutes after you said this, which isn't too bad.

I think that's too long for correlation = causation to apply

Not much batting left in the England dressing room though.

Even less now...

Extremely windy overnight - my garden is a state. But it's just very windy now (less than when I went to the 1st day of county champs in April...). On my way to Old Trafford now, outfield might be quite wet but as it's windy it should dry out fairly quick. Weather looks decent the rest of the day. Forecast to be sunny later on as well which should reduce the light issues.

Batted Jamie Smith, looks like he has had tens of centuries already. Very composed and plays on the merits of the ball, not trying to unnecessarily manufacture positions.

122 lead for England, which is pretty decent.

And SL 10/2 at lunch, which isn't very decent.

Gritty batting after though.
Is chuffing freezing, in C Upper right in the wind. I think my dad's quite ill and refusing to admit it, so he's just wrapped up and shivering.

Ridiculous they just stop at 7, by far the nicest weather of the day. With 12 overs left to bowl.

Squeaky bum time for that under strength England batting line up.
Last pair together before Smith is shoring up the tail again and still a long way from the required total.

Never in doubt!
Good game tbh.

Absolutely ruined from my 2nd game yesterday - so far I've made a two ball duck and a nine ball duck (as part of an 8 run partnership where I contributed one bye). I think that's progress... I was actually more pissed off to get out this time as I wasn't actively shitting myself while I was at the crease, felt sort-of in.
3 day week this week, Lord's on Friday, meant to be sunny as well - stoked.

Umpired an annual memorial game at Sheffield Park yesterday. What a stunning location, and nice to have an occasional crowd having their picnics as it's in the grounds of a National Trust gardens.
Great history in the ground too having hosted touring Aussie sides vs Lord Sheffield's XI which among others included WG Grace.
