US Politics / Biden thread

Amazing as it might seem, still not everyone is decided. When the margin between the two might come down to 70k voters in two or three states, it's still important to make sure that the 'undecideds' are in no doubt. The further and more quickly he descends into La-la land, the better for those still weighing up the pros and cons.

I don't see "approximately like quickly" being any worse than the Cornish tradesman's "presently" - meaning at any time in the future, possibly.

Still remember the youth hostel owner who was absolutely tearing his hair out about the fact every plumber was working on “Cornish time” and a fortnight later, there was still no hot water

Dreckly. It’s the Cornish version of mañana. Just without the same sense of urgency 😉

My trick in South America when told the bus was leaving "ahorita" (a little bit of now) was to ask how many minutes. That usually yielded a response such as 45 mins which meant I had time to do other stuff.

Another one to try and work out where his brain was going. Normal people just don't speak like this: one's native language is so ingrained in us, it's actually quite difficult to fluently turn out non-sequiturs and nonsense like this. When normal native language breaks down into unintelligible rambling, it's a big red flag for brain malfunction.

Watching the News Agents interview with Kwasi Kwarteng. Jon Sopel asked who Kwarteng who he would vote for out of Trump/Harris, he said with regards Trump "He's got all sorts of psychological issues, clearly". He then proceeded to say he would vote for Trump, the premise being that Harris was too far left (as though she is some form of Maoist). Utterly barking, and Kwarteng is an intelligent fairly level headed bloke. Still think Harris will win though.

Level headed? Articulate, perhaps, but that is a mask for all sorts of wrong. Given that Kwartenv doesn't seem that extreme, I think we are only now starting to realise just how right the Tories moved, at the upper level of government, in a desperate attempt to find a silver bullet.
As it happens, the UK seems to have dodged one, at least for now.

Level headed as in he seems a reasonably calm and measured person. I completely agree though, to still argue for Trump highlights that Kwarteng is completely consumed by right wing ideology and his being articulate does not mean he is rational in his decision making, as a theoretical vote for Trump obviously highlights that he isn't.

There is no left in US politics, it's just centre right and further (far?) right.
1 -
Yes, there is always the view that the Dems are left of the Republicans, but that doesn't necessarily make them left of centre.

Biden gets names confused, is hesitant, and appears frail. His time is up, although he does remind me of elderly people I’ve known who have succumbed to age in the same way but could still thrash you at chess.
Trump on the other hand, has never been fit to be president and never will be.
0 -
Sure, but being president of the US!?
Like I said though, very few of you were mentioning a completely incompetent president ruining the country. I mentioned around a year ago both Trump and Biden should have a brain scan. Too many of you are bias if it suits your agenda, without the real issue at hand.
Look, all I'm saying is you're all very lucky I frequent this forum with my vast intellect.

Yep, exactly Focuszing.

How is Biden ruining the country?

He’s done terrible things. Trump said so..
0 -
Well exactly and for how long was he?
Nothing, nada from the Cake massive.

Could help explain the US economic miracle that impresses Rick so much.

Meh lots of people were bemoaning the choice. But ultimately if it's a choice between a senile old fool, and a senile old fool backed by religious right wing extremists, it didn't feel like a tough pick

The guy hoping to be VP is a union member. So was Trump when he was more of a media personality.

Right in what ways ? I think they were incompetent and possibly said some things that were fairly right wing but were their actions actually right wing - other than laws against protest but Labour seem to he more authoritarian on that score.
I suspect that post Starmer's Labour there will be a genuine right leaning govt elected with populist tendencies - probably Tory with a right leaning leader. The only way Labour win the next one is a huge economic recovery.

'Labour' and 'huge economic recovery' are two things you don't often see in the same sentence and from what I've seen of their policies so far I am struggling to see how that will change. I have my squadron of pigs on standby.

Wrong thread, but they need to change the self imposed fiscal rules or nothing much will change.

"I try and be nice to people."
This is genuinely like some comic trying out new material in a series of free gigs to see which gags work. I think it needs a bit more work yet. It would be fun if the Obamas were in the audience, erm, barracking.

I'm getting the impression that even the z Telegraph has gone cold on Trump.

The contrast between the two conventions in terms of quality of speakers and messaging was pretty stark. Not that it will make a difference to hardened voters, but it will be interesting to see if undecideds paid much attention to either.

Are you referring to that outlet that no one* in the UK let alone the US takes seriously?
*Except Stevo

I guess you're happy with the high quality and unbiased reporting in the Guardian or the Mirror then FA? 🙂
To be fair, the Telegraph is a handy source of information on the more egregious examples of leftiebollox and wokery which are worthy of discussion and/or mockery.

The sports pages are okay.
