Olympics 2024

As ex Eurosport subscribers, most of us have Discovery.
I am finding navigating the set up a bit tricky. Tonight it was quite a search to find the full ad free Athletics stream, as there are also lots of single event feeds.
Eventually I found it and what happens? Split screen coverage of field events, making the track runners look like ants.
It’s as if they are offering freedom of choice, without freedom of choice.
Edit: I now find out it’s exactly the same on the BBC, so it must be down to useless French direction again.

Was the heaviest competitor the Japanese judoka who weighs 172kg ?
[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

It was Rusedski first

That was a bit desperate imo.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Good to see (via Discovery+ at 3.49 per month) proper stadium stylee Olympics underway. Track etc. Though did like the BMX racing yesterday...

I'm not sure what your point is. Is it that there are no tactics in lane racing?
0 -
There's more BMX now! Semi's and Finals. Kye has crashed out already.

Shriever is like fookin ET on that BMX. The competition is nowhere, incredible.

Is suggesting that rowers effectively race blind? No idea how easy it is to look around when rowing flat out. And 2-up on the Avon is obviously quite different from 6 or 8 teams on a lake in terms of what rowers can see.

No, they look back. That's fundamental to the tactics. Why do you think they blast out of the start so often? And why do races become bum clinchers at the end if someone is closing.
They don't race with blindfolds and ear defenders on. Also, there are two things available to rowers - 1. Puddles 2. Necks.

Would be intriguing if they were racing blind and the cox was the only source of feedback.
I know people can look over their shoulders - the question was whether was if they do.

Trust me, you know where you are. Boats are not silent, so if you can't hear your opponent, it's not good. You get a lot of peripheral information, not least is the size of the puddles of the boats nearby.
Most boat classes are coxless, which works for me. Our crew used to ask for a "silent 10", meaning the cox would shut the fuck up.

France 1-2-3 in the kids bike racing. They’re having a good night, wankers

Good to have a successful home Olympics. They'll be shit again in LA, don't worry.

I think we all remember the days when GB were terrible, the odd medallist aside. To become consistently one the top 5 olympic nations since Beijing, for a nation of our size is pretty impressive.

Come on Shriever.

Noooooooo

What an absolute balls up. No point dominating the heats then riding the final like that.

Disaster for Beth Shriver. Seemed they held the start for a long time and then just didn't get her normal start and lost her line completely.

God damn, crazy to be that dominant then squeezed in the final.

Men’s 10,000m is being completely ignored

Are there any Brits in it called Mo?

What a great race it was, too.
8 runners way under 27 minutes

Oh well, I’m sure replays of Brits winning medals this morning and studio chat was better. My fault for assuming it would be on and taking the easy option instead of going to D+

Just caught the highlights. Rick should tell Aregawi he should have run at an even pace instead of finishing with that ridiculous sprint for second.

The BBC have shown some of the race, now.
No fewer than 10 runners broke the 27 minute barrier and also the Olympic record.
The Olympics for me are all about the athletics. With the exception (obviously) of the track cycling, all the rest are just supporting acts.

Yeah, same with me. Even events with no Brits in athletics appeal more than most sports even if there’s a British medal hope in them.
