Pogi out of Olympics with extreme fatigue.
Maybe human after all…

Vuelta on then......

All this comment shows is how much of the racing you didn't see at the Tour.

Can it be?

Or p!ssed they overlooked his partner for the women's team

Pogi mentioned in interview he fancied getting the rainbow stripes...

Vuelta finishes on the 8th Sept.
Loads of time for recovery 😉

I guess that prize money list explains why teams put so much into protecting a distant top 10 position on GC rather than going after a stage.

That is one rider better than the whole of Ineos and Ben Healy will win soon win, on a much smaller budget.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Whereas Ineos is simply bust. I don't take your point.

Ineos have won a wt stage race, podium in a grand tour and won a wt classic with different riders this year.
Slim pickings for their budget, sure, but not nothing.

Healey was last man standing in the break one mountain stage and on another day that one is the stage win - also did work for Carapaz and made sure EF were represented in loads of breaks that didn't stick.

Point was EF v Ineos in the Tour. The results speak for themselves.

INEOS did the best handlebar slam of the tour on the gravel stage courtesy of Pidcock: it's a memorable moment but didn't shift the dial in terms of me buying an overweight ladder chassised 4x4.

I don't think Bettiol was getting a mention for his tdf achievements.

Wasn't me who brought him up. As I check this is a 2024 TdF thread and the discussion was about prize money in that race. EF trumped Ineos by any measure in the TdF despite the level of investment disparity was my point.

The budget isn't only spent on one race. EF have one rider who wins anything meaningful anywhere and he delivered. Ineos came with a few riders who win (or have won) things but all seem to be massively overvalued or were domestiques. All failed for one reason or another.
Still, could be worse, fdj had gc/climbing riders contending for the lanterne.

Apparently you were right:
"Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar says the Slovenian Olympic Committee (OKS) not selecting his girlfriend Urska Zigart helped sway his decision to withdraw from Paris 2024."
1 -
I was going to say that is a bit out of order for him to do that, but then if this is all correct, it does seem rather nuts:
"Speaking before that race Pogacar said of Zigart’s omission: "It’s not the main reason, but for sure it didn’t help.
"I think she deserves her spot. She’s the double national champion in road race and time trial.”
Slovenia have selected Urska Pintar, 38, and Eugenia Bujak, 35, for the women's road race on 4 August.
Six-time Slovenian champion Bujak did not compete at this year's national championships where Pintar, national champion in 2023, finished second, 10 minutes and 47 seconds behind 27-year-old Zigart.
"[Zigart] is the only woman cyclist in Slovenia that ever achieved top 10 in week-long World Tour races,” Pogacar told the Dutch broadcaster NOS.
"She did great in the last two years winning points for Slovenia and, without her, they wouldn’t have two spots in the road race."

Aye but, if you are tax dodging as a Monaco 'resident' rather than being home boi / gurl then... 😉
For the avoidance of doubt, this post is not 100% serious...

OKS ditch Pog for the worlds and he goes for the historic treble in Vuelta?

According to G on his podcast, he asked Pog about the Vuelta and he said he has team mates who would be annoyed if he did it
I imagine the likes of Almeida, Yates and Ayuso have been promised leadership at the Vuelta in exchange for being domestiques in Italy and France

That sounds highly plausible, but also highly disappointing.

Damn that's a shame. I can understand the situation though. I don't think anybody would argue he looked fresh enough after the Tour to do it. It looked like the usual training rides to him, never looked stressed.

He should do the Vuelta and his teammates ought to understand the extenuating circumstances, that this isn't a regular year and he and UAE would be going for immortality.

I totally agree, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I don't have to deal with the team dynamics though.

I don't think he should do the Vuelta. But he's the undisputed team leader. If the others don't like it tough. They could always go to Ineos.
