Hypothetical query: England bowl out the Windies for 260, giving them a lead of 10 runs. Would you send Jimmy in to open the batting for his final bow?

I would let him choose, to be honest! And I expect he'd say no...

Softly softly... WI are looking good so far.

Well done!!!!

😁
This is why I never make comments like that about England.

What's the refund policy?
0 -
0-15 overs is a full refund
15.1-30 overs is a 50% refund
But I'm not completely sure that applies to completed matches. I think it does.
That said, even if I get a partial refund, I was hoping for a full day watching cricket.

You would generally expect that on day 3.

Well, yes. It's the reason I took a day off work. West Indies don't look like they are going to hang around. Still 27 overs left today and already 2 down.

Yeah I was hoping for a bit more from them, they started out looking alright.

Think you'll get some play, but unlikely to get a full day in.
On the plus side you'll be able to do the whole "I was there" bit for Anderson's last game :)

Person I'm going with was there for his first as well.

Even better. 😀
5 down though.....

New Zealand relying on Sarah Devine to set any kind of total, again...
Theyve got Bouchier LBW first ball as well!
Just got back from my first nets at the ripe old age of 36... Good fun too.

Even if we win this game at least NZ have been competitive this time. A couple of iffy decisions have helped to be fair and Capsey is probably off NSB's Christmas card list...

NZ need to do some serious fielding/catching practise. They have been awful in the field

It's absolutely crazy that Anderson is being forced out today. Who are the new seam bowlers more likely to want to learn from, him or Woakes? The pressure he put on the batters yesterday with his accuracy was ridiculous - 2-11 off 10 overs.
Anyway, Atkinson one more for a 10 wicket debut match isn't too shabby.

You'd hope they'll bring him into the coaching set up if he's prepared to do so. It's not just his actual bowling, he obviously looks after himself well to have managed to play so long as a fast bowler whilst so many others have come and gone through injury.

Jimmy drops a simple one to end the game and his career

Oh Jimmy, what a drop!

Trying to give Big Bean a bit more action for his entry fee.

12 overs wasn't it, so no entry fee.

Given it was free, it was a pretty decent day. They let everyone walk on the outfield as well which was a first for me (aside from Olympic archery).

He's staying with the team for at least the rest of the summer as a fast bowling coach/mentor. I don't think even he knows what he's doing after that but I'm sure they would keep him in the setup.

Listening to the TMS podcast, Cook was basically saying similar, generally the WI hatters shape up well and look pretty good at the crease, and they play some good shots - but they can't string it together for long enough.
Kind of makes sense as most of them have hardly played any test cricket, and lots of T20s. Hopefully they will get a bit better in the 2nd Test.

Wood in for Anderson, keeping Woakes which has caused some annoyance on Twitter cos of the logic given for dropping Anderson and the fact Woakes is crap overseas.
Seems to me that the reason for keeping Woakes in is that he can bat 8. I also think having an attack of Pennington, Bashir, Potts and Atkinson might also be a bit of a high risk strategy... Not sure which of them is the best bat (probably Pennington), but it would probably be a lot of pressure having a completely new bowling attack and having pressure on a couple of them
Wood will go to Aus if he's fit anyway.

"Causing annoyance on Twitter" is a low bar to be fair. 😉

Well, I can see why - the logic for dropping Anderson is apparently to give some new guys experience because he won't be going to Aus. But then you bring in Wood and Woakes - Wood will go if he's fit but he's hardly new, and Woakes won't.
But you'd be asking probably Atkinson or Potts (who've got the best FC av) to potentially need to make a total - admittedly unlikely against WI, but the team still balances better with someone with a test av of 27 at 8
Atkinson and Potts test averages aren't probably that useful as they've had hardly any games (only the 1 innings for Atkinson). You could make a guess that Potts and Atkinson might be able to get close to Wood's, given similar FC avs, but it seems like a lot of pressure to ask them to come in and bowl and also potentially have to bat for a bit with Smith.

Ahmed probs has the best chance of being a decent batter, he has a decent FC average. If they can get him up to being sole spinner. But he's still pretty young and it would be a lot of pressure.

Bad start from an England POV. Crawley out for a duck on the 3rd ball.
Would be nice to actually get a game though this time....
