I'm no expert on the electronic systems in cars but I was at a road safety seminar where one of the speakers was talking about this and said the capability is already in many cars (this must have been 5 or 6 years ago). I got the impression it would be a software thing rather than hardware but like I say it's not a subject I know about other than that.

Buuuuuut. The software can keep begin tweaked until accidents becomes a thing of the passed.
You must agree that this will sooner rather than later happen. If you disagree then you should stop using the internet, go to the Library (if you still have a local one) and read some old shit.

Not pretending to have inside knowledge but she's never had a seizure before and her husband is a very senior barrister which raises suspicion it's one rule for some. A number of witnesses including the head teacher say they weren't even interviewed.

On the lifetime bans thing, part of the rationale for avoiding them is that in theory, if you remove any hope of driving legally again the person will just drive whilst disqualified. Not saying I agree.

The met not doing their job properly. I am surprised.
The reality is, not necessarily this instance but in general, the law increasingly treats driving as a right and not a privilege, and the rulings have made it clear they don't take the size of vehicle into account.
Part of me would be inclined to make the penalties for drivers hurting other people more severe to reflect the fact cars are materially heavier and often higher than they used to be, so creating more risks for other road users.
I know it's obvious, but had the woman who had seizure been driving a 00s ford ka, she probably wouldn't have killed the children.
If it were me, I'd also make it the law that any SUV sales must come with a formal warning that SUVs are more likely to kill pedestrians and that will be reflected in the severity of any road infraction you commit, but then I think they're devil cars and the govt needs to intervene to make them much less desirable.

Actually it’s six months.
Add an additional six months to that if there is any medical evidence suggesting epilepsy.
of course if you suffer from a seizure it’s down to the individual to surrender their driving license, although the medical profession are obliged to inform on you if you continue to drive.
having suffered a seizure as a one off event myself subsequent tests back in the uk suggested unusual electrical patterns in my brain which gave me a 12 month holiday from driving. I happily surrendered my license at the time. 12 months later, applied for my license back with supporting medical evidence and it came through in about 3 weeks. I was lucky, my seizure happened in Madrid, first class care, no waiting anywhere and discharged the same day.
as many a 1 in 20 people will have a one of seizure. That’s all it is. Having two or more seizures is classed as epilepsy and there are numerous types of seizure.

Don't remotely see what her husband's profession has to do with it. He's not going to be actively involved in her defense. One would assume that there was an independent diagnosis of epilepsy or at least confirmation of the seizure.

I'm getting the "more or less" twitch about the 1/20 will have seizures line. Anyway, if you have one and you don't disclose it to your insurer, you won't be insured if it happens again and, if you do declare it your insurance will either be extraordinarily expensive or you won't be insurable.
I'm kind of surprised for this reason that argument was run, rather than "fainting" of hypoglycemia or something more credibly one off.

The relevance is that they have a lot of money and connections and when you add in comments from witnesses that they don't feel the investigation was thorough that has raised suspicions.

I think the met not investigating a potential crime is absolutely expected and I would be more suspicious if they had investigated it properly.

Seems to be mostly supposition on your part in this case. It was an extremely public incident on the national news. It briefly looked like it might have been a deliberate act, so I think it's less likely that this would not be investigated properly. As to the driver's husband being well connected, this is a prep school on Wimbledon Common: all the parents will be wealthy and well connected.
SUVs are more of a risk to pedestrians but I'm not sure this is the case to pick for the poster.

Not at all. Post event, license reinstated, No increase in insurance premiums.
It’s amazing some of the uninformed views on here. Two children died. Does anyone really think the driver was given a free pass on responsibility?
that would be the police, the medical profession and the CPS all colluding for a SUV driving mom? Have you all turned into tin hat wearing, Covid denying Tory voters( Stevo accepted😉)
the coroner will now examine evidence collected by the police investigation, medical records of the driver and review the CPS decision not to prosecute.

Er... Not sure anyone is saying any of that.

Anyway what do the fellow forum members think of 47% of the Tory party membership supporting a merger with reform?
i would suggest it’s a Corbyn moment making them unelectable.
but these are the same people who gave us boris I can’t tell the truth Johnson and mad lizzie….

Doesn't the party membership consist of less than 200,000 people of whom most are so old they live in a crypt? It's a good thing the party collapses, it failed to evolve and it's time is done. In terms of MP's it won't progress until there is a clear out of almost all those who had a hand in the last government.

Dumping a dismembered body in two suitcases on Clifton suspension bridge which is covered by loads of cameras is a bold move. Suggest the person involved isn’t worried they’ll get caught and presumably wanted to make a statement. It’s not like there’s a shortage of places around there he couldn’t have disposed of it more covertly and possibly have it never found such as the river below or nearby woods.

Hopefully that’s changing as we saw with the 17 year sentence given to a reckless drunk driver. Still a long way go and given we are currently 3 to 4 days away from running out of prison cells , sentencing, punishment, deterrence and rehabilitation requires a reset. Starmers appointment was good in that respect, Timpson, business man, now Prisons Minister employs 10% of his workforce as ex offenders. The real test will be executing on Timpsons findings or kicking the results into the long grass. Mind you that space is rather full too after the last government.

I thought that too, such an odd choice

I'm not sure that people who murder and then dismember the body are making decisions on an entirely rational basis.

Yeah but he could not have been more aggravating if he'd tried.
Shitfaced, filming himself doing 140. I mean, come on.
You know the rule of breaking the law. Only do one at a time.

Do the same kind of thing without the deaths and you're back on the road in under a year and a half.
