Today's TDF stage, where would be a decent distance from the end to watch from?

Stage 4 pretty please - once it has finished of course, or perhaps it has!

My usual ideal is the final hour, but if it's really good that can be extended out infinitely.

Thankyou :-)

    last 40km I'd say.

I mean the whole day has been absolutely beautiful, so if you like the views, watch the climbs.

To the first sprint is also worth a watch I'd say and maybe only the final 25km rather than 40km.

Thanks gents, I'm on the turbo in the morning so I'll likely watch what I can during that hour.

I've been doing some chores, filling out forms for Customs 😴 and watching the once yearly Channel 4 live Silverstone qualifying which was excellent by the way, and well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Same old q, what kind of distance out is worth watching todays stage from?

In all honesty, bit of fun around the climbs at the beginning, then the last 5km

    How's about today?

Was watching the excellent Silverstone gp, well worth a watch if you have avoided the result, rain played a part.

Start with about 150 kms to go.

It depends though. The stage result would suggest it wasn't that exciting, but it was great racing.

Watch the last 40 kms at least.

Honestly, that depends a lot on what you think is interesting/important to see and how much time you've got. Personally I thought the stage was riveting from start to finish. There was a lot going on. I'd watch from the first gravel section if I had the 3 and half hours or so to spare. Others may have a different opinion

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Thanks all, I've plumped for the rarely visited Discovery 1 hour highlights - pretty good so far, no kirby for the time being, although there are ads, seems to be covering the main bits, very entertaining so far, currently at 115km to go.

I used the ‘bookmarks’ on the Discovery + app to watch highlights and then the final 50km or so in full. The bookmark thing is pretty good although it could have done with having the gravel sections marked in the same way the climbs are.

About 3k today, or just skip it and go to PCS for the numbers.

Best distance to watch todays stage from is as far away as possible. Another room, in fact. Or the pub.

Some stages are designed for the era of HD TV. This was one for teletext.

I'm more positive than most. I say 7km.

I watched some at lunch, until about 35km to go, looked pretty intense.

Presuming I want to rejoin at 35km to go and watch the entirety?

Yes and for anyone who didn't watch then maybe the first 100km and then the last 50km!

  • kingstongraham

Yes, 35km would be a decent place to start.

Yeah, 35km to go (or a little earlier, to the foot of that climb) gives you the best bits, plus enough context to understand what happened before then.

Foot of the Col de Neronne with about 50k to go would be my suggestion

The first bit was just 60 guys attacking each other incessantly but UAE kept them on a leash, so the real action started at the foot of the Cat 2 climb
