Well I think we all thought Girmay at the beginning of the day

    De Lie boxed himself in.

I found it dull today. Probably because I need a change from this diet of sprint stages.

Don't think he has anything to complain about other than his own sprint navigation. People aren't going to make gaps for you.

Girmay so strong on these uphill finishes, great to see him beat Philipsen side by side.

From the front view I did wonder if Girmay chopped in front. Haven't seen the overhead though.

I fell asleep. The last 15km was OK.

I think Girmay and whoever was on his right maybe slightly moved towards each other, but De Lie was going for a gap that was never really there, and didn't make it very far into it before he realised.

Well I had a pre concert rehearsal so switched on just as Coquard opened his sprint. Did I miss anything else?

Not really. Movistar-esque tactics from EF early doors, dropping off the break that ended up seeing Abrahamsen out on his own until 14 kms to go, then a block headwind into the finish meant no-one wanted to get their nose in the wind.

Looks quite pretty, might add it to my summer route...

Sad news from the Tour of Austria today as Andre Drege has died following a crash on a descent.

Friends with Jonas Abrahamsen apparently so rough news after the stage finish.

Just watched the ‘highlights’. What a weird stage, it felt like one that would have encouraged a strong break but resulted in Abrahamsen doing 165km mainly solo. Not quite sure what all that bit was about where Ineos came to the front, I thought they were going to put a proper effort into causing some chaos but just shed a few riders trying to take it easy at he back.

It did highlight again that UAE level ok dodgy on flatter stages where there’s a risk of crosswinds. They could come under pressure tomorrow.

I didn't see the stage but I'm surprised by your remark about pretty – maybe my experience was false.

When I spent time cycling in France, the route and landscape between Chaumont and Troyes I always found dull - lots of green fields with just a few cows, usually very overcast. (Even if not as bad as the very flat monotonous areas where lots of cereal is grown, 150-200 km half-circle S of Paris).

The area is the Plateau de Langres, with up to 400 m elevation, higher than any immediate side. It is thus a minor dividing point in eastern France for rivers, some flowing to the Moselle, others to the Seine.
