A random walk in the Dorset Countryside and I come across a "banger racing" meet. A few mean comments about the scene could be made here but huge credit to them, there was a very high proportion of girls racing too...

It was a small hybrid, and she halved her personal footprint by giving me a lift! And the next day she was going on holiday somewhere way south (off Spain, I think) by train and ferry, rather than driving or flying.
Stevo would be glad to know she can't afford to be an absolutist: whilst I'm sure she does all she can for public transport, in a sparsely-populated mountainous/rural constituency, some level of car-usage will be part of the mix for a very long time, though I' sure if I questioned her (which would be a pleasure, if we ever bumped into each other again - she does follow my FB Page), she'd have all sorts of views about how car usage can be reduced.

Still think the French have it right when it comes to work and lunch.
little place a 5 minute walk away. Everyone knows everyone. Lots of hand shaking, lovely wine, decent food. they even get the right amount of wine - not pouring half a bottle into your glass before your big afternoon meeting.

Depends whether the abscissa range selection is intentionally misleading or not doesn't it?
If something is expected to change by 1%, like the price of petrol, and you intentionally use a range of 99-101 to support a hand wringing tweet about big rises in petrol prices it's legitimate to point this out.
Similarly if the average world ocean temperature goes up 3 degrees in 50 years and you plot this with an axis that goes from zero Kelivn, you could be accused of intentionally downplaying a problem.
If it's social science though, I am told you can do whatever the hell you want providing it supports your view.

Zooming out the y-axis doesn't tell you anything about trends as they only exist over time (x axis). It just wastes space.
This is just the data viz equivalent of grammar Nazis. Anyone who can read can intuit the absent bit of blank space.
