While we're watching a very slow bike race, we might actually see a slow bike race at the end of the stage, with Pog trying to lose a few places and get rid of the yellow to Evenepoel or Carapaz. Jonas will obviously be glued to his wheel, so little chance there...

    ITV4 live coverage from 1400.

Is that normal, starting live so late after stage start?

    I can't even remember last year's coverage!

    I can't even remember this morning's "racing" - I wouldn't be worrying that you've missed anything today.

Just stare at this picture until 14:00 and you'll have the authentic race experience for today

Expect action soon, I'm about to switch off to walk he dogs and go for a run so there will undoubtably be crosswind chaos.

It's the same as last year. I think that they trialed the whole of every stage, but viewing figures must have been better with the usual dross they show between 12 and 2.

They are showing all of tomorrow's stage too, so it should be ok for the mountain stages.

Pssssst, don't tell @Pross , as soon as he's gone let's just make up stuff about echelons, attacks of extreme panache, elbows out shenanigans etc

What was that utter bollocks that Kirby just spouted about the rainbow jersey?

Dyeing clothes was too expensive less than 100 years ago?

Hardly back in the days of sack cloth.

Might actually get a decent mid stage sprint here

Superb sneaky sprint for Mads P!

Everyone else getting their trains involved, Mads jumped on Bennet's wheel from miles back, got a free ride to the front 20ish, and then just blasted past

    100km down, 130 to go...

Mads is definitely after the green, btw, even if a stage win is top priority. He's obviously got an advantage in that he can get in breaks and climb well enough to grab some intermediate points, as well as getting high finishes most sprint stages

Adam Hansen on the 3km rule becoming the 5km rule today

Points out that sprint teams will have more work to do in the finale (2km more to be precise)

I don't know why I picked WvA today

Cav not messing about. That was like a very slow motion F1 pit stop, both wheels changed, refuelling and more aero bottles.

I'm going to say it won't make a difference. GC teams haven't always stopped riding at 3km with the previous rule and they'll still want their main man near the front.

Here are the placings for a ppotential "Dodge the yellow on countback" slow bike race finish:

    pog 4 14  18

    remco 8 12  20

    jonas 16 13 29

    carapaz 22 10 32

Remco is definitely most in danger of taking it by accident, he can't let Pog finish more than a single place behind him (when all else is equal it's the most recent stage that counts, I believe, though I've occasionally been wrong about things before, like whether it's a good idea to have that last Westmalle Tripel)

Remco might actually fancy a go in yellow, but I'm his team boss and I've got any GC ambition at all, I'm telling no, not now

Carapaz might fancy yellow as well, and for EF it might be a big enough thing that they'd encourage it

I think I heard on commentary eariler that EF definitely want yellow.

Yes, but alongside this, the gap for a time difference in the bunch is increased from 1 to 3 seconds, you can legit let a 50m hole go and have the same time as the group ahead.

Well Jonas says Van Aert will probably get involved in the sprint, so it's not an insane pick. Brave, foolhardy, against the grain, but not totally mad.

Wheel change for Cees Bol as well. Astana fearing rain?

The French tourist board must be a bit pissed off at the TV images today. Properly stunning scenery.

Or the opposite and they'd started assuming rain and are now moving to tyres with better rolling resistance as the risk has diminished.

Carapaz might want to take top spot - he's worn pink and red before but never yellow.

    Attack!

Fabian Grellier (Intermarche) has 30" on the peloton. The 29 year old has a previous best result of 2nd in La Roue Tourangelle Région Centre Val de Loire - Trophée Harmonie Mutuelle ('17)

Is he wearing Total Energies kit as some kind of ruse to let him get away and win the stage?
