Seemingly trivial things that cheer you up

First puncture of our wee tour today, Mike got the wheel off, inner tube out etc. Tube etc in tyre, pumped up, back on bike, goes down.
Realised punctures are not repaired by taking out inner tube and then putting it straight back in the tyre......

Ha, cheering up a grey and cool/breezy day by booking flights for three weeks at Christmas and two weeks at Summer half term next year, in my partial-retirement boomerage. Hoping to get about 17 or 18 weeks there next year. Off early tomorrow for some sun & warmth, with uni friends - forecast looking a bit more promising.

My daughter is doing A levels at the moment. Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Her brain is on fire at the moment and she's totally unbeatable at our evening Backgammon games. Frustrating for me as I taught her everything but it makes me happy that she's doing well and not stressed. 5 games in a row tonight. Grrr.

How old are you again? 😉
(Yes, I know there comes a time when these jokes are inappropriate but I hope we are not there yet).
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Speaking to a French client. "I'm taking a leaf out of the French book - I'm taking 3 weeks off in August"
"haha that's not French - why aren't you taking the whole of August off? *sips wine*"
Touché.

Spent fair bit of today applying masonry paint on the rear boundary wall, beyond which is another grassy field, for the silage cropping etc. There is a field gate just over the wall, where the tractors access so ruts and usually muddy water given the high clay soil content. The cheer factor? Having gangs of swallows, or maybe martins, landing about 3m from me to collect mud for nesting, and not at all bothered by my presence, even with me clad in this white coverall. Chattering away to each other.
Then in pm having 4 juvenile starlings land on top of the wall right by me, sat there chattering to each other for several minutes, looked like recent fledglings getting to grips with the flying stuff.
Who needs camouflage?

Kid’s school had a euro 2024 inspired kicking competition to raise money for the school playground to be repainted.
alongside they had a fundraising competition, with the biggest amount raised getting a Euro 2024 football shirt of their choosing.
I only went and raised the most amount in the school so she could win it hahahahaha.
(May have also put some effort in to rub the noses of the middle class lot who objected to the idea of competitive fundraising as it penalised the poor kids - come on guys, it’s a school that can’t afford to maintain the playground ffs - it’s a good cause)

Never, ever, underestimate the level of stupidity of some people. 🤣🤣🤣😱🤔 (Video in the link.)

Corey Harris, who is charged with driving on a suspended licence, joined the call from a moving car.A judge in the US state of Michigan was surprised when a defendant appeared for his remote court hearing while behind the wheel.

Walking around area of London near Tavistock Sq etc. - a warm day, cosmopolitan cafe culture and most of the traffic was some form of bicycle - it was great , shows what can be done when car traffic is reduced.

Discovering that eduroam works in the Swiss side of Geneva Airport. A bit random, but preferable to logging into the airport wifi to avoid data charges.

FYI pretty sure O2 gives you free roaming all over Europe including Switzerland. Definitely in France Holland and Italy

I thought so too, but then got this message from Giffgaff:
Welcome to SWITZERLAND. Top up your account and keep in touch with your friends and family while on your travels. Calls cost 15p/min to make, 5p/text and data is 20p/MB. Top up your account at giffgaff.com/top-up Safe travels.

That must be Giffgaff specific as here it is on O2:
"Your minutes, texts, and data allowances will work in our Europe Zone, just like they do at home.
Our Europe Zone includes all EU/EAA countries and the Channel Islands, Switzerland and Monaco."

Apparently the lib Dems have a better chance of being the official opposition than the Tories do of winning the election.

O2 include Switzerland, giffgaff doesn't.
Vodafone, three and ee all charge for eu roaming now.

OK, thanks. That was the only downside of doing the Swiss side of the airport. It used to be waaay cheaper for car hire on the French side, and you kind of sneaked out the back door, but that's all changed now, and there's absolutely no advantage.

Waking up in the night, looking at the alarm clock and seeing I still have hours to go back to sleep.

Sounds very much like 1988-90 when I lived there. Such fun.

Quite enjoy his take on the British Museum.

Being promised at least a partial refund for my shagged Ford Focus car hire.
OTOH, haven't heard back from easyJet about the unexpected surcharge for driving into a foreign country (all of two miles away).
