Yes. The line is the ratio of the two bars.

It goes up because the over 80s do minimal mileage, if you multiply it up to factor in accidents per billion miles it looks bad, but given the tiny mileage they cover the reality is way down. Add into that their speed is likely a lot lower than a lad in his 20s I suspect the severity of those accidents will be less.
However, the fact that it goes up makes RC think it backs up his thoughts on this particular hobby horse. As BB says, it really doesn't.

They probably don't have black boxes to bring down insurance costs.

Can you imagine if they did? Several would be reported as faulty as it never gets above 15mph or something 😂

Bloody Gen-Xers picking on the young. Just thought I'd put that out there. 😉

The graph Rick posted seems to explain why insurance costs a lot more for the young. Add in that the biggest part ofg the cost isn't fixing or replacing the vehicles. it's the cost of life changing injuries and the loss of potential earnings as a result.
Trainee doctor, or barrister involved as passenger who then can't persue their career, the loss of earnings etc is huge.

Maybe pensioners should get a discount on insurance, if they shuffle off a little prematurely think of all that triple locked pension that won't have to be paid out.

Am I reading that right? The graph only shows accidents involving at least one young driver, it would be quite surprising if it weren't skewed towards youngsters in that case

What is that supposed to show?
Given it's a graph of casualties of crashes involving a young driver, it's unsurprising that young people are the largest proportion of those killed or injured, surely?

Oh, yeah, you're probably right. I'm trying to find a decent graph of a simple how many accidents with drivers grouped by age.

interesting (imo) look at social security cost/funding in the usa and some of the options (high taxes, means testing, lower benefits)
the system there is different to uk in that there are specfic trust funds that manage the money rather than direct funding by taxes, but facing similar issues

Who put this together, a primary school teacher?
Have they not seen the polls?
We all want our share to grow. If the pie isn’t growing as a whole, they’ll grow their share at the expense of someone else’s.

Given Labour are going to win anyway, they should create an over 65s national service where the service is helping councils and developers out to approve more homes being built.
Loneliness is a real problem for the elderly, and giving them something to get up for would help their mental health 😜

Nah. Too busy for that nonsense. 🥂🥂🥂
I'll leave it to the Gen-Xers and Millennials to keep them employed. Gotta get your pension somehow.

They should give it to the Millennidulls and Gen Zwhiners, they're the ones who want this stuff to happen.

I thought everyone in here was of the opinion that the Telegraph is now a low quality rag that writes a load of rubbish?

OK, in which case we can ignore the article that was linked above. Rick, take note...

I didn't think everyone was of that opinion.
I assume you're a subscriber - what are the reader comments like?

OK, most then. I just wanted to be clear that we can ignore the link.
