Really? I'm trying to tell you that there really isn't some magic leftie alternative. And given that you are pensioner who owns 2 properties and inherited some wealth, you are yet another likely target for a socialist administration (as well as for Rick).
Anyway, I haven't called you Carol Vorderman for at least a few days so don't be so angry at me.

From the Beeb:
The minister of state for Northern Ireland has distanced himself from his party’s plan to introduce a form of national service for 18-year-olds - a policy that made headlines over the weekend.
Steve Baker suggests he had not had a say in his party's policy, writing on X: "This proposal was developed by a political adviser or advisers and sprung on candidates, some of whom are relevant ministers."
On his own website, Baker adds:
“During a general election campaign, policy is not decided by ministers on the advice of officials and collectively agreed: it is decided by the leader supported by political advisers unknown.”
“Candidates are not involved and even relevant secretaries of state are taken by surprise when policy is announced. It is perhaps the worst aspect of the democratic process and I have no reason to think it is not common to the Labour Party."
The party says a Royal Commission would look at the details of how to implement the policy - such as how it applies to young people in Northern Ireland.

I guess that's a no then Brian.

Tbh I’d probably prefer a higher tax higher state provision model but the UK is high tax and low provision which is worse of both worlds.
so in order of choice if goes:
high tax high provision (aka north European model)
low tax low provision (US model)
high tax low provision (uk model)

I didn't know Brian had inherited all his wealth. Come now Brian, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Or the ones who are already working full time but still have to give up a weekend . Why? They can’t even use the usual one us oldies like of ‘I had to do it and it didn’t do me any harm’ as literally no-one has done it in this format and there’s hardly anyone left alive who did it in its proper format.
The ‘get them out of their bubble’ makes me laugh from a bunch of over-privileged ex-public school and Oxbridge rich people who live in a bubble of the same types. Absolute morons.

Just accept that it is never going to happen and move on.

As an aside, in 1997 I was communting into Lahndahn, take the Hammersmith City line from Paddington. On the tube on the Friday morning post election results people were smiling to each other. In Lahndahn. 😳 Was a breath of fresh air. Rinse and repeat. Things can only get better....

Much like hearing about the positives from the last 14 years seemingly.

President of Young Birmingham Conservatives...what a mess of a party.

I mean, duh! Of course he's a socialist. That's literally the founding principle of the Labour party. So was Blair.
How is being targeted by Labour different from being targeted by the Conservatives? In the last 14 years: Corporation tax up; tax on dividends up; employers NIC up. Regulation is on another planet compared with 2010 - fancy having a 30-year liability slapped on your work overnight? - and an uncoordinated mess of overlapping and competing requirements. Oh, and a planning system in complete meltdown.
So please, spare me the 'warnings'. I know exactly what it's like running a business under a government that targets small businesses.
I also know exactly how it compares to the first decade of the 2000s.
I don't expect any miracles and certainly no tax cuts, but some actual stability and governance will be as valuable as anything, regardless of what ideology the government professes to follow.

Fair play to him, although to suggest that Birmingham young Tories have become "a significant force on the political scene" might be something of a stretch.....

Criticized the National Service policy too. .

Amusing that he mentions the Tories lacking a plan when that is the thing that they keep throwing at Labour in the hope someone will miss the elephant in the room.
0 -
They don't seem to realise that the plan is to win an election whilst the Tories implode. Seems to be working rather well so far.

Did Blair stand up before he was elected and say that he was a socialist? I'm highlighting the difference and that this will be a left wing Labour govt if they get in, not some centrist third way effort like Blair tried for. This despite Labour trying their best to appear centrist, which is disingenuous.

This is the best campaign EVER!

Seems so. That's one hell of a sales pitch.
It's a measure of the toxicity of the Tory brand that "Boring, might raise taxes, but not Tories" looks to be enough to win an election by a significant margin.

@rick_chasey is going to have to be worked with.

I like the imagery that the grandfather is laughing at how his grandchildren's finances will be utterly screwed, while the grandchildren don't realise why he's laughing.

He was leading the Labour party FFS. Labour are and were a left wing party, including Blair.
I'm really not sure who you're trying to convince of what. It's all slightly academic now anyway, what with your guys clearly aiming only for damage limitation.

It seems that businesses do not seem worried about this.

Amazing.
Sunak is confirming everything I said about this party. You all thought I was exaggerating for effect hahaha.
I told ya!

Get off the fence, Rick. Can't be doing with people who try and ride both horses in a race!

What have I missed from the Tories that you’ve seen that suggest they are trying to limit the damage?
