This definitely cheers me up... a young musician I've worked with in the past... his Bristol-based jazz quintet is getting good reviews in the US, and is in the Top 10 on the jazz best sellers at the moment. This review has cheeky links to a lot of the tracks, if you like groovy jazz. Well, just if you like good groovy grooves.

Yup. Counter-intuitively, apparently lard is less unhealthy than butter, I'm told.
If you want to see how much, here's someone who's been doing it a long time, and I'm not sure he measures the amount of lard too precisely... I was amused by the way he makes sure that there are no gaps by just grabbing some more lard.

One tablespoon of lard, on the other hand, contains five grams of saturated fat, 5.7 grams of monounsaturated fat and .12 grams of omega-3 fatty acids. “What we take away from this is that lard is higher in monounsaturated and omega 3 fatty acids, and is lower in saturated fatty acids,” De Santis says. “Based on this analysis, it would be a safe argument to make that lard is a healthier choice than butter because we know that monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids are considered particularly helpful to our bodies and good for our hearts.” Saturated fat, however, is much less useful to us and is potentially harmful in the long-term, he adds.

After my trivial frustrations yesterday with having a leak on my freshly installed front latex tube on the 18 month old but unused Vel 50 RL wheels...
Valve core- extender interface leak. When comparing to rear setup, many core threads were not engaged and wouldn't screw in further.
Found old latex tube in spares box, removed core, swapped out the problematic core, screwed in fully and no leaks. \o/
[First time playing with removable cores, never needed to touch them before. Shame I didn't spot the core thread issue while keeping the tyre and tube on the rim. At least it appears that the extender threading isn't damaged, was ~£12 for the pair iirc.
Unsure if I want to torture my sore thumbs further, putting things back together today.]

Interesting. The swallows over the fields was one of the things I loved about the place in Scotland. Despite living near a river and woodland now, there have been relatively few, which has been a slight disappointment. If they are late in Scotland as well, perhaps we aren't seeing a normal year here either.

Another 'planets aligning' day. I like to ride to Dartmouth during the Dart Music Festival weekend (not least as in the past I've managed to do that for actually performing in it), and not only has there been sun all day, but we had a tailwind there, and a tailwind home, after an almost 180° turnaround, as forecast.
Dartmouth is darned pretty too.

Love Dartmouth and Kingsweir. My uncle used to live there. You can see his flat. Left of centre to the left of the blue house. His was the one with the bay window. He had a yacht moored there too and we often went put on it.
