Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

Maybe not that bizarre in the context of he had to work with Rick Chasey in the previous role😉

Maybe you gave him a good reference to get rid.🤣🤣

Meh, you don't have to see work as some kind of mission. Although putting Trans activism on your CV suggests they did! Maybe she changed it to TERF activism for the spectator?

The whole 'Olympic Flame' thing. Utterly baffles me as to why anyone GAF.

It is certainly a bizarre concept
Why does the Merlin online shop have an option to filter by items that are out of stock?

What value does VAT add? 🤔

Why people can get so excited about Eurovision.

Haha I'll explain if you want, I bloody love it.
I suspect curmudgeons who don't like it don't want to like it and don't want to know why people do ;)

Does anyone want to like something that they don't like?
It's not my cup of tea at all but it hasn't impacted my life in any was for years, probably since an old housemate insisted on inviting a load of people around to watch it. I don't get it but I don't get a lot of things - the poularity of football is a compete mystery to me.
I think I would struggle to name any of the acts in recent years, Lordi are probably the most recent ones I could name but that must be 20 years ago and I don't recall actually hearing the music.

The tax is on the value added. For example, if you buy a widget for £200 + VAT and sell it for £300 + VAT, the net amount that you hand over to HMRC is the VAT on £100, or on the value added. This happens through the whole supply chain.

I've not watched it for (literally) decades, but my impression that Wogan turned it into a "it's so uncool it's cool" thing and saved it from its musical irrelevance, and that sense of "We all know it's naff but that's what makes it fun" shared experience survives to this day.

I think , remembering from 2012, it’s nice chance to give kids etc a little bit of involvement in the Olympics given how scarce the tickets are and the logistics around attending. It’ll give many an Olympic memory.

Surely you were aware of Sam Ryder a couple of years ago? It was virtually impossible to turn on a TV or radio and him not be on in some way.

In Autumn 2012 when my daughter was in infant school we walked up Pen Y Fan for a day trip. She had the class mascot teddy bear with her as it was a thing to write about the adventures of the bear over the weekend. On the way down we met a couple who were carrying one of the Olympic torches up in memory of their dad who died earlier that year. We asked if the bear and my daughter could pose with the torch for a photo. She was so excited about the whole thing and enjoyed writing about it in teddy's diary. It really upped the anti for the rest of the parents that year to go on exciting adventures with the teddy.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Nope, i don't ever watch live TV and only rarely listen to live radio in the car (probably not stations/shows that play eurovision entries). I think I know the name, didn't know he was Eurovision and (having just googled him) the song doesn't sound at all familiar.

If you never heard that Sam Ryder song, it's not just Eurovision that's passing you by.

That is not in doubt.
Having now listened to it, I am happy with my choices.

I'm staggered - it was harder not to hear it than hear it.
As for Lordi, I went to Roveniemi in Lapland the year they won that I think was their home town and their costumes were in the middle of the shopping centre there on display.

I don't know where I would hear it to be honest: Spotify is unlikely to suggest it, i don't think xfm/6 music would play it (which is what I listen to in the car sometimes) and the only TV i really watch is series/films that I stream.
As KG observed, I am not very plugged in to popular culture

I'm oblivious to the whole shebang. I think I even filter out stuff like this if it happens to appear in media I see.

Spotify will suggest little else now, if that's where you just listened to it.

Well if I'm back here next week praising Bucks Fizz, you'll know that the Eurovision algorithm has kicked in.

Shops or pubs?

I guess I may have heard it played in a pub but I wouldn't have had a clue what it was and it didn't make any kind of impression if I did hear it because I didn't recognise it at all when I listened today.
If it were any good, there is a small chance that I may have asked someone what it was.

Did Qanon disappear when we found out it was just some bloke in the Philippines? Or are there still devotees out there?

That says more about what the spotify algo thinks of you rather than anything else.
I'm boning up on the Eurovision songs and it will never recommend me eurovosion or equivalent pop.

They’ve become the Republican party.

My daughters (10 and 7) use my Spotify account occasionally, which leads to some interesting DJ recommendations.
I got some 'Friday vibe' lists this morning and I think Taylor Swift and Slipknot were both on there. Although to be fair, I didn't fast forward either, perhaps i am becoming a Swifty
