Had a taste 14 years ago thanks and it tasted a lot better than what we've had since, particularly last 8.

Like I said above, you'll get the government you deserve.

Are you saying we deserve the current shower?
What did we do wrong?

I don't recall doing that

Enough of our compatriots did though. 😢
Bringing me to my hobbyhorse. Anyone who didn't vote against and is unhappy needs to reflect on their (in)action.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

Interestingly Sky are predicting Labour falling 32 seats short of an overall majority after yesterday's voting. 294 seats.
Seems a lot won't vote for either Labour or the Conservatives.
Very bad results for the Conservatives, but not as good as expected / hoped for by Labour.

Yes but it's total bollocks to extrapolate local council election results in this way.

It'll be no bad thing to keep Labour on their toes and take nothing for granted. I won't mind if LDs and Greens have more of a voice in parliament, but I suspect the local issues that tend to sway council elections will probably have less impact at a GE.
Disappointed the allegedly corrupt Houchen got back in, but if Labour get in and allow proper scrutiny of Teesworks, he'll be toast, and another thing to bash Tory governance with.

I used the future tense of you read my post 😉

I don't think pronouns have future tenses

I'm sure you know what I mean.

Everyone losing their sh!t that loads of non Lab/Tory parties did well as if that behaviour carries on into general elections when we know it doesn’t.

These results just prove [thing I already believe]

Is Susan Hall going to do worse than Shaun Bailey?

Thank god they won that by-election. A decent Tory running a sensible race could have got really close.

I thought ULEZ was going to be the end of Khan from what some were saying.
Slightly surprised Street might lose in the West Midlands as I actually thought he was quite popular.

That’s because the shouty people don’t always represent public opinion.

“Susan Hall, the Conservative mayoral candidate, is speaking now. She starts by congratulating Sadiq Khan.
She continues by telling Khan he "owes it" to the families who have lost lives to knife crime under his leadership to improve the police's record on crime.
"This is isn't an episode of The Wire, this is real life on his watch," Hall adds, referencing an earlier disagreement with Khan.”
Doesn’t come across well does she.

One of the pieces of evidence given yesterday that it was going to be close was that turnout in SW London was high, and we'd had a Conservative win last time.
They came third in the assembly election here, and well behind in the mayoral vote.
Lots of tactical voting, logical given the fpp vote for mayor, the lib dem won the assembly vote, getting 66k votes in sw, when the lib dems only got 25k in the vote for mayor.

They usually do enough to make politicians change their minds though. Good that Khan held his nerve.

That’s going to be the big issue for the Tories at the GE, people want them gone and will vote for the Party that is most likely to beat them. Match that with disillusion right-wingers voting Reform and it really doesn’t look good.
0 -
Yeah Gething could learn from that.

Definitely, it was something I respected in Drakeford even if I didn’t always agree with the policies.

He is, but it is an anti Tory vote really. If the Tory candidate had been anyone other than Andy Street they would have got hammered.
Looks as though Sandwell will be the last area to declare and decide the result.

Fun fact
Reform's sister party in NI, Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV), the smallest of the 3 main Unionist parties, has more elected councillors than Reform (9v2)

Makes you proud to live in a city where Count Binface gets more votes than Britain First.

By the sound of it, including the speech by the Labour victor, Andy Street could have won had it not been for the toxicity of the Tory brand, and is a decent sort of chap. If one Tory mayor had to win, I'd have preferred it to be him, not Houchen.

It seems that the Daily Mail might have inadvertently forgotten to mention the election results...
