Depends if he starts railing against Cornish independence.

Yeah, looks like RUK eating into the Tory vote, but interesting that Labour are very close to RUK amongst Leave voters: they've almost completely deserted the Tories.
My prediction is that turnout will be low, Tories will lose a shedload of seats, and blame it on the low turnout. If they don't lose both of the mayoral elections, they'll claim it as a disaster for Labour. I'd like to see at least Houchen deposed, so they can dig deep into what's been going on at Teesworks.

I didn’t realise that FA was Russian.😏

Both Houchen and Street have not wanted that tree logo anywhere near them. On balance, I think the distance between the mayors and their parties is a good thing. It allows them to do the job better.

Roughly 1/3 declared. Wonder who the tories are going to wheel out for explanations.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

They are probably being presented with a bunch of straws to pick from right now.

That's a punishment beating.

Whoever the Cabinet Minister was they reeled out on Breakfast (they aren’t exactly recognisable, long-serving heavyweights these days) says it will all be fine by the GE because Rwanda flights will be going by then and Labour don’t have a plan. They are pinning everything on immigration doing for them what Brexit did last time despite the polls suggesting it’s nowhere near as important to most people as they think (or maybe it is and they aren’t hoodwinked by the ‘wave them’ in approach to those not coming in on kids inflatables)

Another one 😄
Rishi Sunak’s spokesperson said earlier that Downing Street had no concerns about voter ID more generally, adding: “We don’t want to see anyone turned away from polling stations, we want everyone to be able to vote. Experience from the last local elections was that 99.75% of people were able to cast their vote successfully.”
So that we know of, 2/344 conservative MPs forgot their ID, that's 0.6% of them.
Tory MPs are slightly worse than the general public at remembering the voter ID that they brought in legislation to require

Major news of the night: Topsham boots out the Tory for the Labour candidate. Pre Brexit, I'd have said that the Tories would have held Topsham for eternity.
And I think Plymouth MP Johnny Mercer should be looking for another job.

The chairman of the Conservative Party told BBC Breakfast: “Overall a disappointing night for us. But that is what you would expect from parties in mid-term of government.”

Haha, I knew the "mid-term" card would be played. Desperate stuff. They know they are screwed.
That said, I'm surprised they haven't cited South Tyneside as showing how unpopular Labour is. (I'm guessing that there must be some local issues at play.)

Mid term suggests that they aren't expecting to be voted out within 9 months...

Middle of Sunak's term?

The turn-out for Blackpool South was 32%.
With all the hype about "sending a clear message to Rishi Sunak" etc. I find it odd that no-one mentions sending a clear message to UK politics in general that 2/3 of the population realise that it's not worth giving sh!t.
The older I get, the better I was.1 -
That 2/3 of the population is partly to blame. Don't give a shit? Don't moan when you get shit.

It's not that surprising that turnout is low when people know a GE is coming up in a few months. The average by election turnout since 1979 is only 50%, the lowest was 18% in 2012 for Manchester Central.

No show caused by shame and embarrassment, those who voted tory last time, they know who they are 🤨

Unfortunately it comes down to voting for the lesser of x evils.

Despite being an honorary Leftie by the Stevo definition (i.e. not prepared to vote Tory) there is no Party that appeals to me at all. I'll use the vote but don't know who for, probably Labour as the seat doesn't have as big a majority as I thought. We've been moved into a neighbouring constituency this time that has around a 2000 majority - I thought the previous constituency was very safe but when I just checked it only has a 900 majority.

Anyone but Corbyn gave us Johnson and the acceleration of the death of the Tory party in electoral terms and their right wing MP’s that prevailed during his time as leader of the Tory party.
Starmer hasn’t a clue. Like Johnson he couldn’t run a bath successfully so let’s hope their are better minds with a grounding in reality to drive the necessary and effective changes.
We have yet to see if the Tories try to replace sunak. I doubt the electorate would forgive them their self indulgent excess and would be the equivalent of re arranging the deck chairs in the titanic. At the very best they are trying to stifle at birth the reform party. The Tories are unelectable for at least one term of government as their infighting will continue as they seem to keep on putting their political party before country.
for once I’m enjoying watching these swivel eyed loons get skewered. Unfortunately it’s Joe Public paying the price for failed brexit and the Tories inward vision and shite calibre of MP’s.

The Tories are unelectable for at least one term of government.
That's what was said about Labour after their hammering in 2019. Things can change quite quickly following a GE defeat.

Especially when the electorate get a taste of Labour government.
Looks like quite a few people on here will be getting the government they deserve later this year 🙂

I'd argue that there was always a slightly more centrist wing of Labour ready to take the reigns back off Corbyn. Many leftists are possibly justifiably peeved off at that, but ultimately it's probably electorally helpful.
There doesn't seem to be a mirror image of this for the Tories, and I think it will be electorally unhelpful for them.

Let's hope so as I think we all deserve better than the last 8 years has served up.

Unsatisfied with the current system? Vote for independents and break what is heading to a two party state.
There are enough spare votes for this to happen.
