Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

How is it that instant hot chocolate is basically waterproof?

Fat in the cocoa powder. It does seem like a design flaw that scientists really need to focus on.

Make a paste with the powder and a bit of milk, then mix the water into that.

The solution is to add only a little so it can be made into a paste, then add more and more, thinning more each time.
Not really instant but then not really good hot chocolate either. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I strongly feel that food technologists should be able to find a way to make sugar soluble, and cocoa dispersible. They can manage it for coffee.

Looked at a different way, making sugar basically insoluble is a significant achievement.

Eurgh to instant hot chocolate.
Boil a little water, pour onto mix of sugar and more cocoa in a cup, stir vigorously. Add milk, put in microwave on full for about 90s. Stir again on removal.
The only difference is that you have two tubs with the ingredients in, plus fresh milk, rather than the one overly-sweetened tub of vaguely chocolate-flavoured powder.

Can't be arsed.

It's a particle size thing. And surface tension.

Chutney/jam etc. In jars where it is impossible to get the last bit out of the jar.

Still better than plastic scqueezy bottles that are specifically adapted to start explosively spraying condiments, when they are below a threshold filled level.

The 'remember me' button on some websites, you have to select it every time you login as it never remembers you.

Hotel bathroom amenities bottles/tubes.
I appreciate that they supply them, but it’s über annoying that they are all the same colour, with labels printed in tiny font using low contrast ink colours. Difficult enough to read in good light with glasses on. Impossible to distinguish in the shower without them

Labels are irrelevant, it's the same cheap soap in the bottles.

I once heard a cold will last 6 days without Paracetamol, half a dozen if you take Paracetamol. 😉 Any less and it’s not a proper cold.

The one person in a WhatsApp group who insists on sending voice notes instead of typing like everyone else.

I won't do WhatsApp, mainly as I don't do any Meta apps on the phone (because of the way they harvest data from the phone under the guise of usefulness), but also I hate how badly people use group communications... it's like a 'Relply To All' email habit, and I really don't want another 'vector' for spammy chain comms on my phone.

Had a pupil at the end of term had exactly that, and that was (at least following) covid. Voice only went for a day or two.

Seeing a trolley full of reduced price, use by now strawberries in my local Coop. Ok, it's April in the wet dUK so these will have been glasshouse grown somewhere in the world but hey... strawberries, nice taste eh? Eh no. Like 'kin cabbage. Grow my own.

One day people will realise that a “foreign holiday” is likely to be cheaper than visiting somewhere in the UK

Ha! I realised that in 1982. Flight and two week half board in Mallorca was cheaper than train and tent site in Newquay.

Yeah it’s hardly news

Dreams.
I went for years and years without having them at all (or certainly not aware of them by the time I woke up). Now I seems to get them lots, and last night's was a really annoying one which I knew in the dream I was trying to awake from but just kept on 'waking' back into the dream. It involved my dad's mum who died about 50 years ago, driving across the Downs in Bristol, and my mobile phone being blocked. It wasn't even as if it was sifting through my day's experience (which was a very pleasant ride). Grrr.
