Paris-Nice 2024 ***Spoilers***

Loved watching Tarling absolutely nailing it for Ineos about 5k out then turning round to find precisely no team mates in tow. Looking at their roster for the race, I'm not sure who he expected to be there: Bernal, maybe?

Oh god, I just realised there's going to be a TTT with those Visma helmets.

I'm sure Philippe Gilbert just drew lines on the map explaining the route in completely the wrong direction.

I quite like this format that Paris-Nice are using for the TTT. Adds a little extra tactical layer. I'm not sure it makes a major difference though

Few seconds difference maybe when the best TTer is also the GC contender.

Have Astana just put in a decent TTT?😯
Fastest at the mo by 45" (though only Israel and Alpecin-Decuenik have finished otherwise)

UAE look really good - very smooth and not ridiculous which is a bonus.

The UCI are looking into banning these ridiculous new helmets, citing safety issues. 😀

Not as good as Quickstep though

Doull dropping Uran in the sprint for the line. The format is a bit odd, I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before though?

Ohh, tipping it down at the finish now, not so good for the later starters

Rain having a big impact on the final teams.
Q Step ship almost 40 seconds to UAE in the run in.

Bora being affected by the rain and also by Roglic dropping most of his team about halfway through the stage.

That wasn't very intelligent riding by Roglic.

I don't think he'd have gone any faster overall if he'd waited for a couple more of his teammates, because Bora, along with Soudal-QS, Visma and Groupama, had the worst of the conditions in the final 5 kms.
I imagine the post race team analysis will be interesting though. How come Jungels was dropped before Haller?

He only dropped his fourth man on the end of the climb to the timing point. Would be much better to have an extra pair of legs on the fast section.
Bora dropped 30 seconds on QS in the second half, while Visma gained a couple of seconds on QS.

That was a dog's dinner by a lot of teams ..the art of ttt is being lost especially with the format change with individual trimmings ... The technique for GC ..is keep it together as before then clip.off with your GC man and best finisher ....

I think teams are trying to work out what works best for this format still. Carlos Rodriguez said afterwards that they had too many riders in the final kilometre, which is not something you normally hear.
The weather had a very meaningful impact on the result, as the latter teams had to take the corners in the final 5 kms a lot slower than the earlier teams.

Pile up on the climb is unusual.

Yeah, didn't quite see how it happened, but that's Gaudu 40" behind the peloton here

He crashed taking off clothing on the climb.

This gap seems weird, the chase looked to be riding much harder but the gap was going out.

Good riding by Buitrago, let Plapp help him for as along as possible then left him for dead. Remco finally waking up but way too late.

Stage only rated as brilliant by Hatch so I guess that's about a 3 or 4 out of 10 on most scales.
Skeljmose takes the final bonus seconds on the line from Remco.

Well, that was all rather null and void, given there is some doubt over Saturday’s GC stage.
Buitrago took his opportunity well and milked the inactivity among the race favourites, for all it was worth.

Plapp has a 13 second lead over Buitrago. 30 seconds over Evenepoel, Almeida etc and over a minute on Roglic.

This habbit of finishing around 3:30 rather than 4-4:30 is not very good for watching the finale and doing the school pickup.

I enjoyed that last bit a lot 😅
