    Bonjour les chenapan

Sky cleared and the moon is out so it's back to brr.

Beans is flipping his lid 'cos he managed to loose the collar and bell. No bell meant 4 dead birds in 6 days. Still waiting for replacement. So he's in at night until Royal Snail gafmo.

Not much on the cards today.

    Laters.

    Morning

Waiting for the decorator to arrive then it’s in to town for some paint. Already cleaned the bathroom to avoid the wrath of Mrs W. Later hopefully will be a bike ride and to test the gps computer I bought several years ago and gave up on when I kept losing the data.

Morning. Actually rode my bike to work today! The struggle is real.

(brings my huge tally of 2024 to 76.2 miles 😂

Work for me, then meeting an old uni friend I've not seen for nearly 39 years this evening, at the unique Bridge Inn at Topsham. Oh, and coughing up phlegm from last week's cold.

Can we compare the colour, texture, flavour and viscosity of the phlegm?

Back in the office today and even managed to put up a kids wall art before I left this morning. I wonder if it's still there when I get home.

Zero exercise today as I'll be on taxi duty tonight.

tailoring complete, had a quick demo in the devialet listening room, so very tempted

pre-lunch coffee time, heroically resisting a pre-lunch bubbly

edit: ran out of willpower, bubbly on the way

    Afternoon folks,

Another day of excrement shoveling in the orifice, slow wobble in due to the wind which is dull. Weather is dull but dry so far. Apparently it will be sunny on Thursday when I have to drive the EPO in and MOT the old dear's car. Had to go round to the old dear's last night as she'd looked at her bank account and there was a £47 charge to Amazon that wasn't hers. Looked through things and couldn't find any evidence of it, froze the card, rang Amazon and they said it was probably someone else that had used it and to call the bank if not. Sent a message to my sisters asking them to check their Amazon accounts, lo and behold my niece had bought something and used the 'wrong' card. I wonder how much of the old dear's overspending is going on others as she's managing to spend £5k+ every month which seems rather high to say the least. Luckily she's now looking at things a little more by the sounds of it.

Good decision making there SG, thinks about bubbly, drinks bubbly. Seems reasonable to me.

Which Devialet? The Phantom things or more serious kit like the Expert amp/DACs? I nearly bought a (used) one a year or so back but resisted.

thinking of a pair of the 108db phantoms, plus the turntable adaptor

used to have active crossovers, tri-amped, each amp it's own psu and huge speakers, designed the electronics myself in the '80s, but they were massive and as decades passed bits were giving out, so i just got some small stuff to replace it, but i miss the power/clarity when i'm in the mood to turn the volume to 11

what i like is the phantoms are really tiny and there's no need for extra boxes/cables, demo was impressive, but i need to go back sometime with a playlist and spend a bit of time seeing how they are on favourites, one for later in the year though

Been racking up the miles on the piste today, the place is half empty so almost no lift queues and a lot of mostly empty pistes.

Did manage to refuel at lunchtime though

Swim, sauna and Turkish bath to follow shortly, followed by beer, steak and more beer. Its a tough job, but somebody has to do it...

Turkish bath? Isn’t that where big sweaty men whack you with twigs?

Lunch looks good stevo! Enjoy being beaten up/whacked off by some burly turks. 😁

Re the hifi porn guys SG and WS. I realised my ears are too fucked for "proper" hifi, and am quite happy with my sonos stuff, which is convenient, and good enough. Mind you, I remember listening to a friend's dad's set up. He had £££'s of analogue kit in a separate annex to his house, with a separate "quiet" power supply (no idea). It was an eames chair and ottoman, a plinth, a turntable with a cartridge fashioned from meteor dust or something, a pre-amp, an amp, and some floor standers, all cabled with that same meteor dust. He had an extensive collection of vinyl, and really, it was amazing, all glowing valves and transparent sound.

Nope. I think that's a Finnish Sauna where they beat you with birch twigs so B³ might know more than me 😊

We were quite pleased to see the ski racing team from some posh English girls school join us in the Hammam. Unfortunately it meant that we couldn't stand up and leave for longer than we'd bargained for and it was pretty hot in there 😇

I’ve not listened a lot to the Phantoms, but they did do a pretty good demo. The last few years in particular has seen some really great stuff come out, thanks to Class D amp modules and developments in active room correction DSP etc.

I used to chase the perfect setup with a succession of systems, and while my hearing is still not bad, I got to the point I was listening to the equipment and not the music any more. Our last couple of homes have been way less than ideal acoustically anyway to get the best out of the kit.

I use the Apple Home Pods in the home office, and guest rooms, which do a fine job of disappearing. Still have a quality but minimal stereo in the living room for the rare times I can sit and just chill. And a kicking home theatre setup which does good music too.

Even the shed has a decent 5.1 channel setup, keeps me amused on the turbo… 😀

Failed again with computer. It recorded the ride but 17 miles in 62 minutes, was recorded as 4.93 mph average. Also it didn’t register heart rate and when you use the timer/ clock you can’t see your speed.

Its now back in the box for a few more years.😂
