Well done your phone! 😉
Just shows how tech has advanced.

Wrestling a bit with a longer focal length in fading light. Quite tricky balancing aperture and ISO (without setting it too high) to get a fast enough shutter speed.

Getting a higher usable ISO is about the only compelling reason for me to get a new camera, apart from getting a new toy. 😉 I severely doubt that I'd get better photos than I do right now otherwise. Most important component is 50mm behind the viewfinder.

Planned to go out tonight to take advantage of the clear skies. Didn’t really have time before a meeting I had to attend which then dragged on but went to my chosen spot only to find the sky had about 50% thin cloud cover. It was also very windy so keeping the camera steady on long exposures would have been very difficult. Decided to abort rather than spend an hour in the cold for likely poor quality shots. The cloud had mainly cleared by time I drove 20 minutes home but the wind would have remained a problem I think.
I’m hoping there’ll be clear skies with less wind in the coming days around the new moon as I’d like to see if I can get a full Milky Way arch.

That's what I was thinking whilst taking these. I missed a nice wave shot, breaking perfectly over a stack, due to a too slow shutter speed. It did have a strange yellow hue, which would've probably been enough for it to go in the delete pile too.

Could the yellow hue not be sorted using white balance? I always shoot RAW for these "I should have known better" moments.

Cold weather forecast next week. That usually means less wind. Usually.

Hmm, I'm telling myself that I'm only slightly cheesed off that I'm not in the French house at the moment, as I might be tempted to cycle up the local hill to here this morning. Meanwhile where I actually am, the sun ain't doing what it oughta. Grrr.

Fortunate to get a smidg of light in what was a gloomy day.

Thanks, Brian. What was a shame, I couldn't fit a rainbow in just off to the right (out of frame).
Had to resize to post.
2 -
Pity. I've started using the panorama mode for rainbows... they can be pesky things.

That ray of sunlight was the first for a while and mostly hidden by a mountain.

Planning on going out and trying my luck tonight. It's going to be a cold one so hope I'm rewarded with clear skies, still a bit of high cloud around at present but the forecast shows a few clear hours later.

Have a great time - from what I've seen, there won't be a shortage of snow.

I gave my wife my camera today to snap pretty scenery while I was driving.
573 photos later..... I should have let her drive. 😉

^Those clouds couldn't have lined up any better^👏
Where were you driving, the Serengeti? 🦓🦒🐘🦏🦁

Nah, just through the hills covered in frost. Culling down to 30-odd for the socials is a pain, even direct from camera.

The worst one I've seen was someone a bit 'special' on a local FB group, who took the train from Exeter to Barnstaple and back. A nice enough there-and-back journey, but she videoed it through a slightly dirty window, then took 211 blurry screencaps from it, which she posted in all their glory.

Managed to get today's photos down to 81 from our combined efforts. I think I had around 30. 🤣
Anyway, one of the latter. Straight from the camera as it'll take some considerable time for the post processing.

Took advantage of the nearly clear skies to go to St. Gastyn's Church on the southern side of Llangorse Lake in the Beacons. Wasn't quite sure what to expect as I'd never been there before but it looked a nice remote church with pretty dark skies. Really pleased with the basic results, these are just a couple of single exposure shots with the cresent moon providing lighting. I was experimenting with taking panoramas and light painting the foreground that I need to play around with now in Lightroom and Photoshop but really quite pleased with these for very simple single exposure with some basic editing to lift the shadows etc.

^^^ Nice! Only glaring thing that I'd add is some perspective correction. ^^^
Or a big birthday treat tilt shift lens. 😉

Yeah, I was going to but couldn’t remember where it was in LR but then found it for the second photo but that didn’t need it so much. The problem using an 11mm focal length to get as much sky as possible. Had only intended uploading them to the laptop and then editing properly tomorrow but couldn’t resist a very quick play around. Hoping I can get my pano shots to stitch decently, not something I’ve tried before.

Thought I'd share a modified version of the shot above. Shows how a shot can be improved or ruined in post processing. All subjective of course but any comments are welcome. Nice to get outsider views of the processing.
PS - 1600 pixels on the long side didn't work. This is 1200 pixels.

I wonder why 1200px didn't work... maybe I compress the image quality more, with the limit being file size, not dimensions.
Definitely an improvement, BTW, PB.

I guess you meant 1600px? Yes, probably compression as I use zero. 😉
Thanks for the comment!

Yes, I meant 1600px, and yes, that makes sense, as I compress to 90%.
