Ha, in nice circularity, my Devon youth jazz band is going to play at my 'home' theatre in Die in July: I'd asked the Crest Jazz Festival if they could organise a gig for us as a warm-up to our appearance at the Vienne Jazz Festival, and they happened to chose Die, just 5km from my house. Happy, if slightly surreal. Had better take some extra underwear to throw at the middle-aged female fans...

I'm convinced they do that (as opposed to secure messaging) to make it harder to contact them in the hope that people won't bother. I'm old enough to remember when we had a tax office for Exeter in Exeter, and after that, when Self-Assessment started, when you would get through to a real person within seconds.

This morning I was going to post in the 'trivial annoyances' thread that the mail merge extension I've been using on G Mail (G Mass) had gone from allowing 50 merged emails a day on its free plan to just a seven-day free trial, and after that it's $24 per month. Grrr.
But then after a bit of searching, I found a recommendation for AutoCrat, which not only does G Mail mail merges from Google Sheets/Docs, but creates PDF invoices that it attaches to personalised emails (rather than just creating and sending emails with the invoice inline).
First batch sent out this evening (which always cheers me up anyway), and it looks like it's aced the challenge first time, despite my being a first-time user.

Emailing one of the world's biggest music publishers (Hal Leonard) about what I thought was a notational error (a missing accidental) in one of their trumpet books, getting a reply ("We'll look into it, thanks") within 12 hours, and another reply ("You're right, thanks, we've corrected the file, so the next reprint will be correct, and here's a PDF of the corrected version for you") within another 12 hours. Not quite as satisfying as correcting OS maps, but still pretty cool.

Mornings like this morning - well below freezing, with a hard frost but little wind and bright skies. Probably my favourite weather (although it does mean I've had to turn on the second radiator in the room where my garage is located for a bit to get it warmed up). Looks like it will be staying clear again overnight for me to take another trip out with the camera before it starts to go back downhill again.

I went out with my camera for sunrise this morning in -5c. I had to give up earlier than I would have liked due to painfully frozen hands. Damn poor circulation/Raynaud's. Need better gloves, or give up on that idea.

My friend's son / one of my daughter's best friends is finishing his Performing Arts degree and going straight into the new West End production of the Michael Jackson musical. I've been watching him perform since he was about 10 alongside my daughter (and even alongside me on a few occasions!). Taken after his mum's side of the family rather than his dad who was an Olympic and World medallist in athletics. Always nice to see hard work and talent getting rewarded and young people being able to follow their dreams.

However they also delivered the same item on Tuesday however they didn’t even tell that one had been dispatched.

In a weird bit of triviality related to cycling I may for the first time in many years be feeling a little bit of cycling love again.
Plus, say what you like about fixies but given that it's lived in a damp shed for 5 years, I pulled it out, threw a new chain on it and...it works.

Decided to put a parkrun effort in the middle of my scheduled 13 mile run and managed to run my fastest ever parkrun / 2nd fastest ever 5k. Just missed out on the top 20 (21st out of 320). Should probably have gone harder at the start as I was only 6 seconds slower than my mile PB in the last mile. Came as a bit of a surprise as my good form from last year seemed to have dipped in the last couple of months.
