Bolt on Down Tube armour...

Have seen a few bikes with a 'guard' bolted onto the down tube (where there are bottle bosses) but can seem to find anything online.
Considering something for my Calibre Bossnut to help protect the brake hoses and a bit of rock protection.
Any ideas?

An old folding tyre cut to length does a reasonable job....or don't crash into anything!

The quality guards are sized to fit a particular bike.

The carbon ones don't bolt on. They're made too small and you soften them up in boiling water to fit them. I've got a Rock Guardz one, it's very good.

What Rookie says. If you want to have a functioning guard that will see some use, you do not want it to break after the first time it became useful and you also do not want to be dishing out a lot of money for it.

I've seen the tyre picture and was looking at doing that sometime when I've got a spare duff tyre! Just wondering what else was around as an option...

As mentioned Rockguardz do model specific, I have a BB one on my Anthem but that's all. Hopefully you should never need protection like the tyre unless you expect to fall off. Maybe a skills course would be better VFM.

The tire guard is not meant for falling off, it protects the downtube from flying debris and from when you fail to bunnyhop a log properly, or misjudge height of a rock.
You do not need to make it out of a used tire, you can just buy the absolutely cheapest one you can find and cut it up. Or you can ask around your locale for some used MTB tires.
