The Ashes started next week, so it's likely one or two English might shine, and a few Saffers. :D

His reward for for winning? Having to escort Marion Bartoli to the champs dinner. He picked a really bad year to win, he must be gutted that Lesicki didn't win the women's final

On the plus side Michelle Cound will be livid that Froome will not emulate Wiggo and win the big one in December when SPOTY gets announced.

Reminds me, must start an Ashes thread soon. It is the main sporting event this summer as far as I'm concerned.

He got a personal message from Liz.

Conformation that tennis is a sport run by toffs.

Agreed, although smashing the Aussies 5:0 would be great, it would be nice if they are able to put some fight.
Perhaps they have been sandbagging for the last 9 months, and they are going to up wallop us. :D

What a ridiculously tense final few games that was. And the tennis was played at a ridiculously high level. Some of those points were almost impossible. Well done Murray. Absolutely brilliant performance.

A friend of mine was moaning before Wimbledon started that Andy Murray gets too much coverage. I said I thought it was reasonable given his chances of winning when compared, for example, to the coverage of England during world cups. This lead me to reflect that given results in recent years in tennis majors, golf majors, formula one, cycling, and of course the olympics, football seems to the only big sport british teams can't win. It doesn't stop England getting all that TV publicity and column inches. It's all down to the money.

Anyway back to Mr Murray and Novak Djokovich. Am I alone in thinking that the big four of mens tennis have become the big two?

That's 'cos it's English football, not British....................Not that that would make much difference.

With regard the big four becoming the big two, possibly.

He is on the one show at the moment. Started off pretty dour but improving and coming out of his shell. I think he is naturally quite nervous.

Yup the big two I would say... Federer will be around for a while but is going downhill, nadal is still going to be there in small doses but his injury problems are not going to go away, he in the ascendancy over djokovic so could be the big one...

I thought I would never live to see the day when a Brit won Wimbledon, been watching for half a century, now I could die happy!

Just watched the repeat of that documentary about him. Can't believe anyone would dislike him after that and I imagine a few million people watched it.

I think this win more than the US will lift a huge amount of pressure off him. Wouldn't be much of a surprise if he won another slam or two and got a good chance of defending his title next year. Just got to hope those big serving Polish fellas don't improve too much.

    Thoughts of a 'tennis fan'....

"Isn't it just thrilling that an Englishman has won the Winmbledon?
I was one of those lucky few who managed to get there and be on 'Tim's Tussock', you might have seen me there with my hamper, I waved to the camera every time it came my way. A lot of the other people on there were shouting for "Andy", it must be that foreign chap's nickname.

When the tennis wasn't on the TV I dusted off my trusty Dunlop and headed down to the local park . I couldn't get on a pitch because the place was full of oiks who weren't even wearing the regulation white, and didn't know how to grunt properly.
I must say I loved every second of the two week tennis season, it's just a shame that they don't play anywhere else.
    Well, done Tim! "
