Fella, it was your thread that got me onto these frames...0 -

Bugger, away and can't check.. Does anyone know the correct steerer tube length needed for the 224 ( for the purchase of 2nd hand forks)
Ta0 -
Just ordered some SHIMANO Deore XT disc brake BR-M785 - Servo Wave brakes and SHIMANO XT brake disc SM-RT75 rotors in 203 and 180 for this from Rose... £161 delivered!
Still hunting some forks ... missed out on a set of 08 Fox 40's by £10 on fleabay.. got sniped.. arse bisciuts.0 -
Just won some tatty 2010 Zocchi 888 rc3 evo's.. As soon as they arrive they'll be off to Windwave for a service. Might get the shabby lowers re painted or something.
It's all coming together.0 -

Nice. I'm really liking my marzocchis (66 rc3/ata).
Apart from the stupid graphics, that is.0 -
The lowers are very tatty, easy fix would just be new stickers but I'll see about getting the powder coated.0
-
Awesome, those new 888 RC3s are meant to be really good. Looking forward to seeing the build!0
-
All the brake parts have arrived ... XT 203/180 with superstar mounts... oh and a bible...(a proper bike catalogue)0 -
Finding out a price tomorrow but my local LBS (MJ Cycles) will be taking the 888's at the weekend and stripping the lowers off for powder coating (think i'm gonna go black (or even yellow) ) before sending them off to windwave for a full service.0
-
Forks have arrived
I was unsure if 190mm steerer was going to be enough but it looks fine.
Can't complain for £2090 -
Looks good, I think the forks look decent in white to be honest. I'd keep them like that, they'll only get scratched to fuck as soon as you put them on an uplift trailer. Also, I'm not entirely sure whether powder coating cast magnesium lowers is a good idea?
Only thing it needs is a nice, lightweight saddle.0 -
I was thinking the same about powder coating... i think it'll just be painting.
I might just go black with them... stealth look it.0 -
How about fitting some drift fork armour instead of painting? Covers up the scratches and they will get scratched to buggery on the first uplift day you do anyway so painting is pointless. At least fork armour will protect the lowers from any damage to the aluminium. It's also a lot cheaper than a re-spray.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Looks like a good option but from the website it doesnt look like they do 888's.0
-
Id probably be tempted to give them a good clea, remove the shitty looking decals and touch up an scratches with a bit of white paint.0
-
Pretty sure they do them now. Worth contacting them.
Or these fit 888's http://www.saundersextremesports.co.uk/ ... &parent=11Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Cheers for all that... i've mailed em to find out.0

Looking good, your lowers cannot be powder coated and if they say they can they don't have a clue, they can be wet sprayed np, a good 2 pack poly will be really tough if you want them done.
But on your first ride I gaurantee a stone will chip them anyway, clean and new decals as the guys have all ready said, you won't tell, honest....
Gonna be a nice bike that.0 -
"one careful owner" on them forks
what are you doing for rims & rubber?0 -
That's fairly standard for DH forks. Uplifts make a mess of fork lowers.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

looking good!!
i would probably leave the forks, it's not worth the effort as forks get scratched easily anyway + they're not even that bad.
are you gonna use the deore rear mech? i hope you're not because oranges are noisy enough! do your self a favour and get a saint mech0 -
They looked a lot better once i'd scraped all the manky sticker and glue off.
TBH i'm just gonna get a touch up pen and some decals as i've just spoke to a couple of sprayers and they want £60 prepped or £100 with prep. THATS HALF WHAT I PAID FOR THE FORK!!!!
Nope the deore mech will be going... just keeping an eye on a m810 saint mech on fleabay.
Rims and rubber i'm not too sure of yet... not got that far. I was gonna do a black and yellow theme so original idea was generators or deemax but we'll see.0 -
If you're on a budget, I'd opt for a close ratio road cassette and a short cage road rear mech.0
-
I wouldn't say i'm on a budget but i am always after a bargain.0
-
You should be able to pick up a cheap 11/27 or 11/25 105 or Ultegra cassette relatively easily. The equivalent rear mech shouldnt cost much second hand either. You get the advantages of a light weight set up with a close ratio cassette and the rear mech is fairly small so less likely to get pranged on rocks etc.0
-
Road mech with a short cage SLX mech works pretty wellTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Forks are off to Windwave tomorrow for a full service..0

oh right good! btw i wouldn't go with generators. they're ok for all mountain but for dh they dent too easily. my mate dented his rear rim quite badly and he's only about 10stone.
you can get deemaxs for a good price used, and they're really strong wheels0
