10 stone... ha ha i'm just short or 17 so i'll pass on them lol0

Generators are stronger than Deemax's!
Anyone can dent a rim, no matter how heavy they are, especially if your tyres are too soft. I'm 16 stone & I have used generator wheels and they are solid even though I tend to kill wheels. If you have a couple hundred pounds to spend on wheels I would go for Mavic EX721's on Superstar Switch Evo hubs, I had a set & they are absolutely bomb proof. Dead true even after four races & several uplift daysTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
looking sweeeet, like others have said, lowers will get pretty scratched as soon as you get on an uplift, might as well leave them.0

At 100 sheets for prep and spray i'll just get a touch up pen and new decals (although i've got a couple of Monster Energy stickers i could just whack on) .
Just need to get hold of a cheap 2nd hand direct stem..0 -

It's been a while since i updated this thread. Lost my job .. 8 months of no money but i'm back in the game so back spending.
Got a Funn direct mount stem.
Just had these delivered today, Zee rear mech and shifter.
And i've just won on fleabay a new Nukeproof 760mm 20mm riser bar in black...0 -

-
Nope not yet.. still looking around... think i might start out on a set of Superstar DHX wheels then move onto something more substantial later on.0
-
Just had these delivered, Nukeproof 760mm 20mm rise. Hope blue seat clamp and superstar grips.
left with..
Wheels. (if some things go my way i'll be able to get some generators this month)
Tubes and tyres. (Not sure what to get)
cassette (looking at a Shimano 105 25T)
Chain (unsure)
Pedals. (saint, nukeproof or superstar)0 -
RE tyres, minions are usually a good bet unless it's super muddy. I usually run some combination of supertacky/maxxpro minions all year round with a swampthing on reserve for the front.
Also, with the wheels, those superstar DHX ones are pretty solid from what I hear, they're just not particularly light. If you just want to get the bike built up quickly, they're a pretty decent wheelset to get you rolling. Most other wheelsets are only going to be lighter rather than stronger.0 -
I have got a Generator wheelset, they are ok but I wouldn't buy another set.
I had a set of Mavic EX721 rims in superstar switch EVO hubs, they were solid, stronger than the Nukeproof wheels and about the same weight.
For tyres I would go for Maxxis Minions DHF super tacky for the dry and Schwalbe Dirty Dans for the wet. If you can get a set Swamp Things are amazing in the wet but Maxxis stopped making them, they are a bit more predictable than a full mud spike.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

But yeah, I find the swamp thing is great in wet conditions except for the real thick gloopy mud, but then no tyres are really great in that. Grips well over rocks and roots and clears well, worked a treat for the wet days in the alps. Make sure you take it off when it dries out though otherwise things can get a bit scary! (washed out my front wheel going over the first step down jump thing at the top of pleney, pooed myself!). They pinch flat easy in the dry as well.0 -

My local shop told me they can't get them because Maxxis had stopped making them. They lied
Dirty Dan's are great in really sloppy conditions, they just dig in and find grip. They are a bit dodgy on roots so you have to be a bit careful. Swampy's are ok in sloppy conditions, they lack all out grip but when they let go they are really predictable.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

I think you'll struggle to find better, certainly for the cash that superstar want (£130).
IIRC the DHX rims are now using Alex rims.0 -
I thought the swampthings were being discontinued, despite them being listed on their website, which is why they're a bugger to get, CRC, nextdaytyres, wiggle etc not having them.
Although there was a rumour maxxis were going back on that... but AFAIK they're discontinued.0 -

Didn't superstar used to use Mach 1?
Or do you mean the DHX have always been Alex?0 -
I thought Superstar have always been Alex. I would pay the extra for Mavic EX721 rims. It's an extra £70 but they are bombproof, best DH rims I have owned.
I wouldn't use Stans Flows, they seem to be a little weak for hard DH riding, more like a heavy duty AM rim.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Yeah as far as I know, all Superstar rims have always been by Alex.0

More bits arrived,
