inbred, now with gears!

In the begining:

Frame: Santa Cruz Chameleon (bought second hand in 2006) LRG
Forks: RS Pike 454DA's
Bars: Azonics DW
Stem: Thompson
Headset: Cane Creek
Grips:
Bar Ends:
Front & Rear brakes: Hope M4's with floating rotors
Shifters: XT '07
Front Mech: XT'07
Rear Mech: XT'07
Seat: Spoon
Seat Post: Thompson
Crankc Race Face Evolve DH
Front & Rear wheels: Hope Bulb hubs, Mavic D521 rims
Been a superb bike, if not one of the best i've had over the years, but i'm starting to find that it is a little too stiff in the back end ( :? ) for long rides, so i've been trawling t'interweb looking for inspiration on a new bike.
The quest continues:
This

This

and This

Have turned up on the doorstep (as these things do....) and i have a set of Hope Mini's in the shed that need putting to good use.
The plan is to build the Inbred up as a second bike (either rigid or with some tora's on, cant decide) with most of the bits off the Chameleon, then treat myself to something with a bit more 'spring in it's step' as a main bike.
Anyway, after reading Da Mighty Chickens 2010 P7 thread and thoroughly enjoying it, i thought i would start my own WIP thread for my new build(s).
Hope you enjoy it and any coments, critisisms or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking, Andy

Spec'ing and building bikes is great fun on it's own, and then you get to ride them, good times

Very true, its certainly fun having new bits delivered.
Looking good, i'll be watching your build with interest. Good Work 8)

still not sure which direction to go with the Inbred, current thinking is build it as a rigid gear'd bike with the bits from the chameleon, then put the Pikes and M4's onto a SC Heckler frame and try to build that up reasonably light. (but that may all change by the morning

Some more bits to add to the pile;
Orange F8 forks
Bontrager seatpost
Specialized flat bars (with 2 twofish lockblocks for some torches)
not sure what to do about wheels now, buy some buget wheels for this or some bling for the melon and pinch the wheels off that. Hmmm :?:

cannondale hooligan 1
cannondale badboy
pair of Mavic Crossride 6bolt disc wheels 8)
And an FSA the pig headset.
The pile keeps growing.....

Yup
Can only get bits when the funds allow at the moment so it'll be a while yet. The only trouble is the longer it takes the more time i have to change my mind completely!

Yup, thats for another (as yet undecided) project
just waiting for the stem to arrive and then hopefully i'll be able to build the Inbred up (when i'm not working, 12hour shifts at the mo

Single speed kit from the wooly hat shop.
The stem arrived as well, although i'm now thinking it might be a bit( )short!
Anyway, got the bike stand out last night and started construction..
After a bit of bodging with an home-made headset press i got the cups in, then found i'd run out of grease to pack the bearings with, Duhhh
still need to go and get some grease, but i popped the wheels in just to see what she looks like......
Ta Da!
Off to the shops in a bit so i'll get some more done later today, cant wait to go for the maiden voyage!

Carbon 456
456 lefty
Pompino
White Inbred
yeah, gonna be a new build with the parts off the 'melon soon, just not sure what.
P.S. you just blinked at me, cool 8)

Ha Ha, i thought that to start with, but they are deffo 26"! got some tyres on now and they look much better
yeah, not sure about the stem, gonna try it first before i do anything about it tho.
Tensioning the chain will be done by the old rear mech off the chameleon, then the new XT will go on the new bike.

Christ yes. On One - vs Santa cruz? No frickin' contest.
Because they have no tyres on them
Scary! i've just had my ala carte resprayed white and bought the official cromolly black steel forks and have the same wheels, it looks a bit like it. I will be posting some pics up when i get round to it (its unbuilt) but they will look like twins ahhh!
after a few technical issues its built at last :P
had a prob getting the chain tension correct with a chain tensioner so bunged the old XT mech on there instead, job done.
just got to go and get it dirty now
(and also decide weather i like SS/rigid bikes :P )

looks like a bike with an identity crisis to me....
I bet its not long before the forks, gears and risers get put onto this, then it will be a great bike....
Just my opinion, no offence
Ha, yep, its a bit of a rare one
Had a bit of a play on it today and already the first thing to change is the bars.....
put the Azonics bars off the Chameleon on now, much better
It still looks odd but it rides really well, honest! its main use will be local routes, road work round town etc. first impressions are great, but your right it prob will change soon!

I'm sorry but a respray of the chameleon would have been money better spent.
