If I had to make a descision the road bike would be one of the first to go. Luckily I don't have to make that decision so I'll be keeping all 4 bikes. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -

My mate has one and ive been on it a few times....... I also agree, There Bol1ocks.0

I did a charity road ride recently from london to paris on my MTB with slicks dna reigd forks and had the misfortune of trying out a road bike for some of it. Was not fun in the slightest, and as far as I could tell the only advantage it held over my bike was faster gear ratios...
On my commute I ride a very heavy and rusty MTB with slicks and would never ever consider swapping it for a 'proper' road bike.0 -
i have 2 road bikes and they are both cool.0

Basically I took it out last night and thought.... why the feck am I riding on the road.
Its not interesting.
Its not challenging.
Its not comfortable.
The scenery is shite.
Its not cool.
You look like a prat.
Brakes are shite.
Gear changing is shite.
The bars are fecking stupid.
Riding in the wet is frankly dangerous.
You're constantly on the look out for pot holes.
I could continue if you want...0 -
So if it is dangerous... then is challenging, yes?0

It doens't have to be challenging to be dangerous!
Walking through the wrong street in blackpool isn't challenging... but it can get dangerous...0 -
You should try Jawbone hill in Sheff - can get to 60mph down that ona road bike!0
-
I don't think I could EVER go over to the darkside, however, I did the Cannondale up in a road/race style for road riding/training, but it looks and rides like an MTB0
-
BUt you have to ride up it 1st though yea?
My car can hit 60 in comfort, with my MTB in the boot on the way to some lovely trail thanks0 -
No different from on a trail! You start and finsih in the same place usually lol.0

road bike gears are smoother and quicker than any mtb gears i have used.
i do prefer riding off road (especially since i have moved near to some ace local trails) but i find road riding makes me bike fit and i love the sense of speed you get on an awesome downhill slope, its far faster than the equivalent mtb section.
however, i do wish i could have the braking power from my mtbs though, road brakes are truly rubbish, the focus ones are much better than the spesh's ones but still terrible.0 -
Aye, I like doing a bit of road work - nice scenery here, and of course you pass pubs. But I take the Zaskar LE - then if I find some nice woodland I can just nip in and have a go, then go back on the road.0

but it'd be riding on this
or this
Which looks more exciting?0 -
Rocks lol.
I have had more hairy moments doing 50mph plus on the road than off road, that is for sure! Especially cornering!0 -
You big girl :P
Sure you don't wear the full lycra while you're out on the bike hehe?!0 -
I would take Llandegla anyday thanks . . . Road bikes truly are poo who thought riding round with thin strips of liquorice for tyres was a good idea anyway ???0
-
Not any more ;-)0

Horses for courses.
I'm starting to lean towards more downhill orientated trails, especially ones with nice big chairlifts to take you to the top, so I'm thinking about getting a road bike to help lift my fitness up a notch or two when I'm not on the mountain bike (I'm about to start a new job which has fitness as a requirement). It may not be as exciting as dropping down Le Pleney, but it sure as hell beats going to the gym.0 -
