I'm off to the LBS to talk b*llo*ks for a couple of hours whilst spending more money I don't have, then after a leisurely lunch I might go for a ride on my new CX bike popping on and off road as my mood and the terrain sees fit.

Lovely warm sun shine and a clear blue sky

You complete and utter fcukers.

    Mind the black ice yeah...

Freshly back from the LBS having deposited several hundred  beer vouchers with the owner :( including a substantial please leave me alone! discount.

Still my Dolan CX is almost ready to ride, just as soon as I've finished crying over how much money I just spent I might go for a ride or will I ????

I'll just add that I used to be a regular on two local interests forums, until the people who ran them both got over-zealous with making more and more categories and sub-categories. It seemed like any time a new branch of discussions got going, bam, it got its own sub-category, threads were moved to them, and people were told off by the mods for going off-topic in the old categories. On one of them, threads were even locked as soon as the original point of the thread had dried up.

Don't suppose this place will become that extreme (I hope!) but just a warning about getting picky about splitting topics up.

No the mods on here are too busy surfing porn and drinking beer :P

    Just kidding  :?

Lindsey kindly made me porridge on the morning of the IOW ride and I just didn't get on with it. No ill effects, mind, and I did eat most of it so I'm sure it gave me energy!

No toilet stops of *that* nature though I did need to have a wee about every 20 minutes once we'd left the pub. Odd, that.

Perhaps it contained lettuce or traces of lettuce?
Personally, my dislike of sprouts borders on allergy.

So Sir, will you be utilising the "what that old thing, it's been in the garage for ages", or perhaps the "honestly it was such a good deal IDarling I was literally saving money buying it"...or perhaps it will be our old friend....hide it in the back of the shed only to bring out on rare and not to be interrupted occassions?

Remove all the sh!t of commuting, and you don't have a commuting section worth looking at...
On the other hand, is it worth having a commuting section where you have to wade through a lot of off-topic threads to find anything about commuting? I doubt that I'm the only one who, increasingly, rarely looks in here because it's frustrating wasting time trying to find relevant threads.

You look in here for information about commuting?

In all seriousness, why? "True" commuting threads run to such exciting and pulse-racing topics as "should I get a hybrid or a MTB" (waddya think on that one, Spitchips?); "what bag should I use?"; "are hi-viz jackets/lights a good idea?" and "should I RLJ/undertake/shout at WVM etc?". Really, there's very, very little to it.

The point, though, and utility of this forum is that for a large number of adults commuting by bike represents their first return to riding since childhood. That return then becomes a springboard for all sorts of other enquiries - maintenance, new bikes, uber bikes, sportives, racing, triathlon, sponsored rides, weight loss, nutrition, hydration and so on. But those enquirers don't cease to be commuters just because they ask those questions. Turning this place into a revolving door for itinerants to swing through on their way to another forum would be a big mistake IMO.

Muthakcuka! You put me back on topic! Shame on you!

I can kind of see Crapaud's point, but I remember when I first started on the C+ forum, Commuting was full of threads like "Cut-up by WVM", "Cut-up by BMW", "Had another near miss today", and so on ad nauseam.

It was interesting for a quick 5 min read, but I spent almost all my time in Cake-Stop and Soapbox, talking about the same sort of things we chat about here.

So, I can understand where you are coming from, but I find this the most inclusive, sociable, life-affirming and entertaining forum I've ever used. You do sometimes have to wade through the crap to get to the good stuff, but for me that's part of the enjoyment.

Its a bit like life really [meaningful mode off] :D

May I just apologise for that last 'on-topic' reply?

I posted it after having only read 2 pages. I now feel appropriately chastened. It won't happen again

Honestly I think things get too volatile when people discuss the do's and don'ts of commuting (where the hell is Spen666 anyway?)

On the subject of coming here and daring to talk commuting look at this gem:

Let me give you a similar scenario:

On Monday I was essentially undertaking slow moving traffic. A guy steps appears on the right from the front of a lorry (so he was crossing the road). I couldn't see him in time to brake so smack I crashed into him. Lucky for him it was raining and I made it a point to go slow, had it been today given the weather, I'd have gone straight through him.

You're a dick then, and riding like a tw*t, do you drive a white van in your spare time?

You're supposed to ride so you can stop in the distance you see to be clear.

Now I'm not saying I was right for undertaking traffic (I was on the left where we are told to be and circumstance demanded), I'm not saying that passing a lorry is safe unless stationary, which this one was. I'm not even saying that I'm not a d*ck or that I don't ride like a tw*t (I'll leave that to the jugement of those I've ridden with) but still here is a classic (on topic) opputunity to offer some sage advice and what do I get? Abuse!

To be fair Brun did offer up some advice before this post to which I hold my hands up and say was good, well receieved and helped.

Now I can't get the idea of maggots eating the guy's eyeballs out of my head :(

Nope I practice the safety in numbers camouflage, lots of bikes all together in one place mostly the same colours, works a treat, if any suspicions are raised then resort to the age old "I've had that for ages routine"

@DDD I used to be a wealthy man with a lavish lifestyle now its just the lifestyle :(
