I think some of them do race a bit. There is at least one member of Dulwich Paragon who is a messenger.

I suppose another issue is that if you are riding your bike all day would you really want to race in the evening as well? I'm not sure I could be bothered.

People try to "look" like a messenger??? Ah well I guess big cities attract all sorts. Do you get people dressing up to pretend to be posties as well?

Id guess its a bit like the way I snigger when I see a rally decalled road going Subaru, or their poorer cousins the neds with shopping lists and "sponsor" stickers.

that made me titter, that did. you even whacked on the circumflex.

i'll sign up for that forum. only if it's a third order sign though, can't be doing without a basic abstraction of reality.

maybe messengers don't really exist, but having fakengers convinves them and everyone else that they do, thus saving the messenger principle?

Not really, I think its just been coined by messengers that seem to think they are "uber" cool & the only ones allowed to ride fixed in town....

I mean ffs what sort of muppet would think its trendy being a 'kin paperboy past the age of 14!

better than being an accountant, lawyer, media whore, city banker, estate agent, taxi driver or anyone of countless other morally questionable and specious jobs.

As much as I do enjoy my bike riding 1.5 hours a day is plenty for me really.

I like a nice dry office and the ability to pretend to work for hours on end.

Its just as morally questionable AFAIK.....who do you think moves a lot of the legal/media/city docs around that help these people work....

Not that I've got anything against the above types....but then again I'm not a courier sticking it to "da man"

I worked as a courier one summer holidays when I was at Uni about ten years ago for some ****ty bunch of w@nkers at the end of Kings Road, can't remember what they were called. I still have their bag and radio in my mums loft which I kept to spite the bunch of total ********s. I was on a mountain bike with knobblies as I remember and it was seriously exhausting. I quit when I had knocked off one day and was almost at home when I got a call saying to get back to the office urgently, I rode all the way back and then he told me to go home. Never went back, and that was the end of my career as a Cycle Courier.
